In my humble opinion and experience the wood type has some impact on tone but it's so minimal it's not worth debating. The type of pickups is where you can start with changing tone but to me the biggest thing if you want to shape or change tone is SPEAKERS!!
First impressions were 1- 335, 2 - Les Paul, 3 - SG. The 1st one definitely sounded more open, but it could be a toss up between the next two depending on pick ups! We'll see!
My bet: 1. SG 2. 335 3. LP. The only reason is that cable is attached differently into guitar 2. I liked 2. best and 1. the least, so I assumed 1. needed to be SG. 😅 I’m said 2. was not a LP, because that’s what I sometimes play. It sounded great! It might be just that that particular guitar was made really well.
Woohoo! Good job, and I’m proud to say I got it right too! 💪 Basically the same things he’s saying are what stand out to me too. I mainly hear the difference in the attack and how the low strings are responding.
I watched the single-coil comparison first. It was really hard, but I guessed right. However, I thought the humbucker one would be much harder as the three single-coil guitars have different pickups and quite different sounds to me. I was surprised when I got the humbucker ones right as well. I didn't expect that. It's subtle but, again, the sounds were different. Interesting! Good video.
Keep doing these comparisons. Stay with similar pickup types for the other videos too. The fact is, there's discernable sounds that each and every guitar makes. I had a fairly easy time hearing the correct choices this time. Maybe a Fender challenge next.
before the revealing I say: the ES first, then the SG, then the Les Paul. Dang! I didn´t saw the SG coming, gotta say the ES was my favorite sound (guitar 2).
I got all three right. But I did so by using my eyes & watching Kris' right arm/shoulder position and how it changed for each guitar & where he reached for the pickup selector. I am a cheater.
I got the ES, they have a “breathy” quality. I mixed up the other two, which is a shame as I love SGs (my current “LP” is actually a Reverend Roundhouse)
I don't have or have played an SG and I'm just not that familiar with it, so I guessed the SG and the LP swapped. Going back and listening again, I hear the drier grit of the SG-w/distortion that said AC/DC. I love my LP but I am married to my semi-hollows (Guild Starfire IV Newark St, Ventura V-1300G [ES 175 Style], IYV, and a chibson 339 12-string).
I got it 1/3rd right. Aka wrong. LP/335/SG. As G said, The 335 stood out as having more of low end bloom. I got the others the wrong way round by thinking the 3rd sounded a smidge thinner/clearer than 1st, so assumed (wrongly) its more likely to be the SG. Maybe thats a bad assumption, or maybe I should've A/B'd 1+3 back to back (right assumption just wrong recollection).
I thought the first one had a hollow body sound, so I guessed it was the 335 and the second I thought was the SG. The bridge tones made me think it was the SG. The Les Paul was obvious.
We can easily prove tonewood matters by comparing a regular les Paul, a les Paul studio, and a les Paul custom with an ebony board. The differences should be easily heard since they matter so much.
Love the sound of the first one i think its the sg... But in the neck it sounds like a les paul... It's hard to tell lol... Now the second guitar sounds a bit darker maybe the les Paul.. oh god this is difficult, definitely les Paulish when it went to bridge. That only Leaves the 335 as guitar 3 sounds airer than the others.. but i would be happy with either i love the bridge sound on guitar three. And overdrive now it sounds like sg with overdrive in bridge.. i dunno lol they're all nice i think i preferred the third
So before i see the reveal part, I'm just gonna type in my answer - #1 is 335 #2 is an SG #3 is Le Paul P.S G, keep up the mask 👍🏻 #zackbroyles #defendthemask
A real challenge for the two of you (not Julia, Patrick or Susi for them i'ts too easy): Find out blindfolded which is the Preci, the Jazz and which the Music Man Bass.
Hm ... the "best" answer would be: not a Tele ... or: not of any importance and ... didn't the original LesPaul have P90 -> single coils But wait: there's help: splitable humbuckers

Really enjoyed the upload guys, you two are awesome. Great playing Kris.

WRONG! 😂
That was what I thought, too. Let's see if I was right. Or we were right.
Nope, but they sounded good.
That’s how I heard it also. Oh well! But Gibsons are notorious for sounding vastly different within the same model
That nod from Kris at 08:31 says it all... Very impressive.

Yesss. I got the test right as well. Proud of myself. Well done Guillaume.
I can't believe I have them all wrong!
Got all three right. The SG was rather hard to conclude but then the les paul's brightness gave it away while the es-335 sounded very dark.
It should have been obvious to him when the 335 was being played beside him. So 50/50 odds after that. Much harder for the person at home

Got the SG right away, for LP and ES I had to listen them back to back to spot the differences on the attack, but eventually got them right.
My guess, before the end of the video: 1.ES, 2.LP, 3.SG. Continuing from 8:10
Great video, always enjoy watching you guys! I guessed correctly as well. The LP was a dead giveaway at the end.
I heard it from the difference in bridge pickups, primarily.
Thank you.
Got them all right first time! SG did have higher mids, 335 more woody and resonant on the clean tones and the LP somewhere in between...
before the revealing I say: the ES first, then the SG, then the Les Paul. Dang! I didn´t saw the SG coming, gotta say the ES was my favorite sound (guitar 2).

Guessing before the reveal.. es335, sg, lp
I got them right! Without seeing them I guess "toneshape" isn't a thing after all..... Good job fellers!
I got the ES, they have a “breathy” quality. I mixed up the other two, which is a shame as I love SGs (my current “LP” is actually a Reverend Roundhouse)
Hahahaha! I got the first two reversed. But it’s amazing how similar they were.
I don't have or have played an SG and I'm just not that familiar with it, so I guessed the SG and the LP swapped. Going back and listening again, I hear the drier grit of the SG-w/distortion that said AC/DC.

I had no idea at all.
ज़बरदस्त!
I had for sure the ES as no1. from the first chord. Damn was I wrong...
😂😂😂😂 absolutely no idea and I have had all three models 😅

Didn’t Andertons do this like six years ago?
I got the SG and 335 the wrong way round.
Also, the mask is sinister and disturbing. Can it be more of a regular feature please?😝
i got it right but it was the overdrive that helped me to find out.
Nothing matters, but your opinion. I say just get a PIA 🤘🏽.
Eyes facing out .
impressive Guillaume.

#1 is 335
#2 is an SG
#3 is Le Paul

And...... The answer was incorrect....
A real challenge for the two of you (not Julia, Patrick or Susi for them i'ts too easy): Find out blindfolded which is the Preci, the Jazz and which the Music Man Bass.
I reversed 335 & SG....
SG, ES, LP?
Yeah!
Hm ... the "best" answer would be: not a Tele ... or: not of any importance

But wait: there's help: splitable humbuckers
Try the same pickup in different guitar bodies if you want to prove Jim Lill wrong
D'Oh...
Oh, i would have put the SG last.....
Nope, he must have fluked it because wood doesn’t matter!! ;)
