Good video while it might be 2 yrs old now and for the OLM2 rather then my OLM3 it still was the ONLY video that clearly shows how to check current firmware in my laser. Thank you
Jim, in the caution note you say not to use the PRO firmware and use the LM or LM2 firmware. I assume that is because you have the LM or LM2 model. I have the LM2Pro so I should be using that version? I'm new to all of this laser stuff so I'm trying to muddle through it all. Thanks in advance.
@@TheEdgeofTech Might be worth adding a sticky note that the power/reset buttons layout that determines motherboard type (1.3 vs Pro) doesn't mean that you have a Laser Master 2 Pro. Looks like a few of us have downloaded the LM2 Pro firmware update, causing issues. Most notably homing to the bottom right, because apparently the LM2 Pro has the X-motor inverted.
I did it! It only took me 3 hours!!! ( had lunch, and some of the instructions didn't work first time, I better go back and see if I still have virus check off! )
My "devices" doesn't do anything if I right-click on it. a left click just brings up the name of the laser it found. I'm wondering how to check the current version of firmware I have?
Just an FYI on the Laser Master 2 Pro S2 I upgraded from 1.85 to 1.87 after you copy the bin file it auto closes laser drive & powers down laser. I confirmed it did upgrade in Lightburn.

Hi, I need some help, i have just purchased laser master 2s2, and set it up, the only trouble is the X-axis is not moving, I have checked the cables and when i home the y-axis moves but the x-axis does not, plus the laser GRBL shows an icon that says 'Alarm' can you help?
Hey there...I have watched several other videos you have that have been very helpful and have recently subscribed. I tried the firmware update this morning and after dragging the new .bin file over pressing the reset and then the power button get nothing. Was hoping this update fixed a couple disconnect issues in the middle of a few burns but this not powering up thing has me freaked out! I did message Gil and Ortur tech support and am trying to be patient for a reply from either. Is this fixable as far as you know with out having to order new parts???

I have a Ortur LM2. I'm having trouble with the drive it creates when I hit the reset button after holding the power. As soon as I try to copy the bin file, the drive disconnects and the file does not copy. Any thoughts? Thank you
I have the latest lightburn 0.9.20 but when I right clicked on the “devices” tab but it’s resetting the current device connection. I’m not getting the pop up that you are getting
@@ryanbeharry5636 Near the move tab is a console tab. When you start up the laser it will automatically home and the message will show up in there. Good luck
Any idea if the firmware updates are all inclusive of previous ones or do you need to do each one in order. Mine is 1.37 and see there are two other updates. Thanks.
Did the upgrade. and then would not start. I did not have clue as what happened. So after searching for about 6 hours I found the OEM bin file. put it back and back up and running Tech support. all they could say is try this try that. if there is anyone who had the same problem let me know what you did to get it back up and running. When downloading the newest firmware from the depository I never get version 1.90. It keeps giving version 1.85. So what is the latest version 1.85 or 1.90? This is a brand new Ortur laser master 2 pro s2

Ok did all that but now my laser is not burning at full power, seems to only be burning at about 25% power. I am using lasergrbl when I click the laser button so I can set the focus the laser shuts off after a few seconds and then I have to reset the Ortur. Anyone have any idea whats going on here. Used my burner a few weeks ago with no issue to burn some Harry Potter coasters. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
I would try it again and make sure you have the correct firmware for your laser. Otherwise jump on the Facebook group and tag Gil. He is support and he will help you get it worked out!
I did the firmware update and my laser will not turn on. I can open the folder as described in your video and drop the firmware in again but the same thing happens again. Have you any idea what I might need to do?

I did the update just fine, cleared everything but now my homing is completely jacked. It is trying to home to the lower right even though everything in the setup is lower left. It can’t find my project on the table and the fan stays on after I try to do a test fire or frame!!!! I have the latest LightBurn and Windows 10. Any ideas?

Unfortunately, when I try to copy the BIN file over the D drive closes and it gives me an error saying it can't do that. I have a error on lightburn saying "Emergecy Switch Engaged" and the thing just won't do anything. I just put it together, too. So frustrating. I'm waiting to hear back from support. But if anyone knows how to fix this, I would be grateful.

Well, just got my laser...put it together, excited to try it...noticed the firmware was not the current one...apparently against my better judgement, followed all the instructions to update and now I'm stuck with it not turning on. Still can get it to mount to the computer but nothing else. I've reached out on the Facebook group so hopefully I can get it sorted but man I'm bummed out.
@@Mysticalmantiscreations yes extracted it with WinRAR...which includes the bin file, pdf instructions, and changelog. Pretty sure I can't extract it any further, atleast not with right clicking it.
Sorry man, other than that the only thing I ran into was I didnt have the Pro (which I thought i had) i downloaded the other one that wasnt for the pro and extracted and it worked fine.

I believe my problem is that I applied the Pro firmware because of the video pointing out that I had the Pro button layout. But apparently that only means I have the Pro-style motherboard, and not the Pro LM2.

Well I have a good idea why they say dont use a Mac... Linux would have similar things... I bet it works fine if you make sure to unmount the drive after copying the file over.
It seems weird that there would be any problems when the Ortur simply sets up as a USB drive. I could see problems if there was update software needing to be run on Windows to transfer the firmware via a USB serial port connection but this method seems to be better and avoid those issues.
@@ElmerFuddGun yeah typically if you were to not allow the system to fully write to the attached disk before ejecting it may not actually write all the data. Ejecting forced that write to happen. Even in windows you could end up in a state where it did not fully write but that usually happens with very large files. If you have ever copied files on a mac or linux machine it can sometimes take a minute before it will tell you that the drive can be removed.
@@ottersdangerden - True. I don't have any Mac experience but do have Windows and Linux machines. There is a setting (at least in Windows) that can turn that "buffering" on and off on different drives. I always use the "eject" function out of habit and don't see how there would be a problem here. But like I said I don't have a Mac and Apple does do some weird stuff. ;-)
@@ElmerFuddGun turns out it has something to do with the hidden macos folder that gets dropped onto it, so that can cause it to fail. Linux can drop a fille there but that is pretty rare and if you know that is an issue its pretty easy to mitigate. (Liam at astroprint had Ortur support guy and thats where i got this info)
DANGER i decided to follow your video and the result was that my ortur is now DEAD ! after your video like a idiot i decided to read the manual where it said something you didn't say......" DO NOT USE A USB HUB" connect directly to the PC. Duh .... anyone any ideas how to fix this now ?? its doing absolutely noting any more....😖
Press the reset button then the power button then the reset button again. And then try to turn it back on. Then go through the upgrade instructions without the hub if it turns back on. If it does not turn back on, jump in the ortour group on Facebook and ask Gil for help. He is the support and he will help very quickly.
ok update... disconnected the LM2 from the net and USB ... then reconnected the LM2 to a laptop with a very short usb cable. Then held the Reset button and second later the start button hold both till the light comes on (hopefully, took me 2 runs) then start the whole procedure again....this time with no hub or usb cable extender !!!! PROBLEM SOLVED
If your OLM2 works now WITHOUT any problems... My advice (like with all computer related hardware) DON'T update. That is my experience of 27 years working with computer hardware

I have old 170 on mine, but I tried this method and it won't stay connected to the PC in my computer. So I cannot update to the latest firmware. I believe the prior owner must have installed the wrong firmware on my machine. It works, but it's not right
Are you sure you have the Pro? I thought I did, because of the way the buttons setup, but apparently that means it's a Pro motherboard, not the LM2 Pro. Caused me problems until I loaded the correct firmware.

No it is not. It is just an updated board for the lm2.

Try renaming the firmware file. That doesn't work Hit up the Facebook group and reach out to Gil. He is there support and will get you up and running!

Did you use the pro firmware? If you did, do it again using the regular firmware
How can I identify (LU 1-3 20J12 on my unit)the laser module. I want to upgrade, I think the one I have is 4.5 watt.

right clicking not bring up the same menu on devices instead it shows disconnecting and then laser ready. light burn 9.21 windows 11

@Ryan Wargo Make sure you are EXTRACTING the file and not just opening it. The bin file is a different size after you extract it.

Well I have a good idea why they say dont use a Mac... Linux would have similar things... I bet it works fine if you make sure to unmount the drive after copying the file over.
It seems weird that there would be any problems when the Ortur simply sets up as a USB drive. I could see problems if there was update software needing to be run on Windows to transfer the firmware via a USB serial port connection but this method seems to be better and avoid those issues.
@@ElmerFuddGun yeah typically if you were to not allow the system to fully write to the attached disk before ejecting it may not actually write all the data. Ejecting forced that write to happen. Even in windows you could end up in a state where it did not fully write but that usually happens with very large files. If you have ever copied files on a mac or linux machine it can sometimes take a minute before it will tell you that the drive can be removed.
@@ottersdangerden - True. I don't have any Mac experience but do have Windows and Linux machines. There is a setting (at least in Windows) that can turn that "buffering" on and off on different drives. I always use the "eject" function out of habit and don't see how there would be a problem here. But like I said I don't have a Mac and Apple does do some weird stuff. ;-)
@@ElmerFuddGun turns out it has something to do with the hidden macos folder that gets dropped onto it, so that can cause it to fail. Linux can drop a fille there but that is pretty rare and if you know that is an issue its pretty easy to mitigate. (Liam at astroprint had Ortur support guy and thats where i got this info)
And now my laser doesn't work anymore. Should have just left it as is.
Talk to Gil on the Ortur facebook group and he will get it working for you. He's their tech support!

DANGER i decided to follow your video and the result was that my ortur is now DEAD ! after your video like a idiot i decided to read the manual where it said something you didn't say......" DO NOT USE A USB HUB" connect directly to the PC. Duh .... anyone any ideas how to fix this now ?? its doing absolutely noting any more....😖
Press the reset button then the power button then the reset button again. And then try to turn it back on. Then go through the upgrade instructions without the hub if it turns back on. If it does not turn back on, jump in the ortour group on Facebook and ask Gil for help. He is the support and he will help very quickly.
ok update... disconnected the LM2 from the net and USB ... then reconnected the LM2 to a laptop with a very short usb cable. Then held the Reset button and second later the start button hold both till the light comes on (hopefully, took me 2 runs) then start the whole procedure again....this time with no hub or usb cable extender !!!! PROBLEM SOLVED

If your OLM2 works now WITHOUT any problems... My advice (like with all computer related hardware) DON'T update. That is my experience of 27 years working with computer hardware

well, I don't have a Windows machine, so I'm S.O. L.
I have old 170 on mine, but I tried this method and it won't stay connected to the PC in my computer. So I cannot update to the latest firmware. I believe the prior owner must have installed the wrong firmware on my machine. It works, but it's not right
now my lm2 pro will not turn on ??? what now ??
Are you sure you have the Pro? I thought I did, because of the way the buttons setup, but apparently that means it's a Pro motherboard, not the LM2 Pro. Caused me problems until I loaded the correct firmware.
