N3N Part 2 - New Home in Yellowknife with Joe McBryan

- Опубликовано: 4 май 2018
- N3N 'Nellie' from West Coast suffers a blown (literally) cyclinder and deadsticks into Jarvis Lake near Hinton, AB on it's ferry flight to Yellowknife after being bought by Joe McBryan of Buffalo Air. Engine replaced, it carries on and eventually gets to it's home on Back Bay in Yellowknife. Joe graciously takes me for a spin and we get a little more footage to complete the story! Keep 'er flying Joe!

I would like to sit and listen to Mr Buffalo talk for hours. Listen to the stories of his life and adventures. I am 66 , an ex truck driver from Canada , only spent two seasons hauling fuel up to settlements in northern Ontario, but stand in awe at what this man and his team have done for Canada and the northern communities. An amazing man.
We had one of these at the West Houston Airport , and she was also yellow .. “ the NNNNN33333NNNNN !!!”
Love it.
Joe the smile on your face tells me all your efforts to get the N3N to Yellowknife were worth it.
The exhaust note that comes outta that radial is intoxicating....sounds AWESOME
The dog acting as supervisor, love it. Thank you.
Enjoyed the video. Less music. MORE JOE!! Something I wish I had was more video and recording of my dad; The incredible man who spurred my desire for flight.. Sure miss him!
Love the way Joe drifts it into the narrow slot between the two small docking piers!
The flight was incredible, the landing beautiful but the docking was supreme. We hand it down to our families not by demand but by desire. Nice job...
Great history lesson on the plane, great video, thanks for posting & thanks Joe for saving her
Outstanding video! I gotta visit Yellowknife (and Joe)... in the summer. Bucket list! 👍
What an amazing piece of aviation history!
Whoa! Watch out for those trees! Nice restoration. Lol - I must be from a different place...I liked the music. Thanks for sharing.🍀🌠🙂
Awesome airplane. Thanks for sharing the video.
Take me for a ride there Joe!!! Love the series and hats off to you guys for saving these old Birds....for still working these old Birds... in Hostile environments at that. To see those C-46s and C-47s that once carried troops and helped The Allies win is just plain eye candy!! AMAZING!!! Im a Rc Pilot and Aviation NUT!!! Someday I will fly the real thing. Thanks Joe Mike and Buffalo Air.
Beautiful, nice save Joe.
Nice vid! Enjoyed your contribution to Mikeys DC-3.
Great video on the Navy N3N. Wish there were more as my dad trained in one during WWII then he bought a surplus one after the war. We have black and white pictures of when he and my mom and older brother(one year old at the time) flew from Chicago where they lived to my grandparents farm in NW Wisconsin and landed in the hayfield. My mom in the front cockpit with my brother in her lap!!! Also remember the story when my dad bought it in Cape Girardeau, Missouri sometime in the winter during record cold. Flew it back to Chicago at minus 30.
I sure long for the Good Old Days!!!
One Bad Apple great history! Thanks for sharing that!
Great video. Damn disco music.
I remember this aircraft! This first photo of an N3N 'Yellow Peril' I saw was a copy of Air Classics featuring surviving vintage aircraft (by coincidence a Genairco that Kermit Weeks would buy was also featured). The N3N featured was recently made surplus by the USN, on wheels, dirty, oily and hammering its way to its new home. The article noted it was also made for floats to familiarize their pilots for the OS2 Kingfisher. I found some drawings of a float-equipped N3N in a 1943 copy of 'Aircraft of the Fighting Powers'. Kewl! A few years later in Aeroplane Monthly (I think), an article appeared about an float-equipped N3N restored on the BC coast. The story included a photo of the owner's grandkids(?) posing in the wingtip float! I believe this is the same aircraft Joe bought.
Have a lot of fun flying it Joe though it a bit tough to flycast off the float!
Love this stuff. The boat guys can't even dock like you guys. And we haven't asked them to fly yet
I like the see the take off with Joe at the controls.
Superb video. Thanks. :)
Friggin AWSOME !
WOOOOW ... Look at Mikey's long locks...Hey Mikey....PLANE SAVERS!!!
Wow. That docking kills me.
Friend of mine owned an N3N in Corvallis Oregon.. it was a blast to fly..:)
My wife used to live there
I remember seeing that airplane for sale. Glad it found a good home.
Keep'em flyin Joe....
Awesome !
I'm Glad she made it home..., She was owned by a wonderful Man, and his Family Bill Thompson, who Maintained her and loved her, Joe bought his Plane, I bought His Old 1924 Tug Boat, which I am trying to restore, Thanks for the Video.
Casey haynes thank you too! I remember seeing it before sailing there!
Terrific
Wow, I almost didn't recognize Mikey!!!!
Why Discovery ever cut this show I'll never know.
CumminsSuperduty1 I didn’t select this video to speed read about it.
They should've cut Mikey's hair instead.
I don't know if you seen, Mikey McBryan started his own RUclips show called "Plane savers" about them restoring an old DC-3. He filmed 10, 10 minute episodes already and he posts videos almost everyday.
@@AviationNut Good series!!! I love how they still work Vintage Aircraft.
TechGuy Discovery didn’t cut it. The guys chose to end it after 6 years. They were done being filmed.
Awesome, I'm guessing that's Joe's house on the lake.
Flying the bush in northern Canada and Alaska ,late 1920s to the early 1940s .
Must be nice...my last wet ride was in a t craft SFO bay...
YES!
If you watched that television series one might conclude that Joe McBryan might be the world's worst boss but he's one fine aviator 😂 🤣 But another restored Stearman is only so interesting. Now, a Bellanca Aircruiser, on floats or wheels, *that* would be interesting! 😍
Boy - would that ever be a great project!
I have followed Buffalo with the C45,C46, etc and then to the Electra's in England.
Im bloody glad Discovery did....their model of "danger and controversy" sucks. Still, good to see Joe and the family still kicking goals, and by the look of the gear on young Mikey's new blog, some good contracts. Well done!
When we saw this plane in 2015 we never dreamed of its resurrection by Joe.
A biplane glides like a brick if the engine quits. A biplane with 3 floats and rigging must glide like an anvil! That lake must have been under them when they blew the jug.
love the music at the start. Who is it by please?
joe you never looked better in a usn aircraft
I have seen this plane at Pender Harbour B.C.
Wow👍
cannot believe Mikey gaind all the weight back
Just a reminder to viewers - this video is available without music - just the big Radial Engine sounds at
ruclips.net/video/XPIZCYPih2M/видео.html
Can you lengthen your captions times, please? They are far too short.
wow we need a plane up there
that didnt sound good
Anyone ever watch the Chit Show ?
Did I see a "Norsman" in one of your shots ?
You bet - beautifully restored flying Norseman of Joe's!
Is that a Norseman sitting on the dock at the end???
You bet - pristine and flyable!
letsflyinter ohhhh man...that aircraft is on my bucket list to take a flight in!!!!
Sooo envious!!! LoL
letsflyinter I just bought a beautiful hand carved Norseman 1/72 for my room downstairs
We are only caretakers of history.....we never really own it.
so this how Buffalo Joe started, eh?
Where is Canadian registration on this aircraft ?
CF-HUS
Registration... we don't need no stinken' registration .
Do you mean the location? Underside of the port lower wing and below the horizontal stabilizer.
That thing needs an R985...!!!
Almost every video is destroyed by utterly vile music, especially this one. Does anyone need unnecessary noise to enjoy these programmes
Ashley James Excellent point for many people! Which is why there is a version with no music at all of this particular movie. ruclips.net/video/XPIZCYPih2M/видео.html. Enjoy the big radial sounds!! Lets’s Fly!
@@letsflyinternational you know this makes you a good person right? 50 years from now when people have never heard the actual sound from one of these engines there will be a few recordings to use in the VR simulators so that EVERYONE can enjoy flying them.
Damn, I shure wasted my life..she is beautiful..
needs some weight up front
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DUMP THE MUSIC!!!!!
ditto that. The Sound and sights of engines and waterlanding splashes are the reason for watching. music kills the hole film. sorry for whining. great filming anyways!
Preferred no music.
Get rid of the music!
V=
is there not a better compliment of music to go with this great airplane? Do we have to listen to this edgy crap "music" … the sound of the airplane if available is enough...or find something more friggin soothing
ruclips.net/video/XPIZCYPih2M/видео.html This might be what you are looking for!
Just a hint guys, piss off with the music. I'd rather hear nothing, or wind blown engine sounds than this "dreadful soundtrack"
