  • February 8, 2022 The cases of serial bomb blasts in the commercial cities of Ahmedabad and Surat in Gujarat in 2009 were finally decided by a special judge today and 28 accused were acquitted on the basis of insufficient evidence while 49 accused were found guilty. The court will determine the sentence of the accused tomorrow.
Reacting to the acquittal of 28 Muslim youths after 13 years in the cases of bomb blasts in Ahmedabad and Surat in 2009, President Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind Maulana Arshad Madani said that they are fighting for justice in the hope of getting justice. Innocent people get encouragement by this kind of justice. In this case as well as in other cases due to the slowness of the police, it takes years for the courts to reach a verdict, and the innocent people have to bear consequences of the delay in justice.
The biggest question is who will compensate for the loss of precious 13 years of life of these innocents, who is responsible for it? and Why are these kinds of cases not decided in a certain period of time? Until all these questions are not answered, such innocent people will have to spend years behind bars.
Maulana Madani said that the acquittal of 28 people is another clear proof of how biased investigative agencies and officials are destroying innocent Muslims and their lives and careers by trapping them in fake terrorism cases. We have been constantly demanding that the police should be held accountable for playing with the lives of innocent youth. He further said that sectarian forces are against the social, economical and educational development of Muslims. Terrorism is being used as a weapon to destroy the lives of young people. Have a look at the data and analyze that most of the arrested people on terrorism charges are educated Muslim youth, and the accused in this case were also educated youth from different cities of India.
Maulana Arshad Madani said that ten cases are registered against one accused on a single charge, so that he has to spend his whole life fighting these cases, and when the final verdicts comes, his family was destroyed, and the precious days of his life were over.
Maulana Madani said that it is the need of the hour to speed up the judicial system. In many countries of the world, there is a law to close a case within a certain period of time, but we do not have such a special law, and no one enforces the existing law. Because of this, innocent people have to stay behind bars for years.
But there is a ray of hope, despite all the hurdles, the majority of the country is against sectarianism and there are a large number of secular people in this country who are not only protesting against sectarianism, religious extremism and injustice against minorities but also fearlessly speaking out. At the same time, they are going to court against these sectarians.
Addressing the journalists, Gulzar Azmi, secretary of Legal Cell said that the decision of the lower court would be challenged in the Ahmedabad High Court after determining the sentences of the convicts as the special court had not accepted the evidence presented by the defense lawyers. He said that tomorrow the defense lawyers will discuss in a special court for giving minimum punishment to the convicted ones.
