This was so much fun. I am 71 now and have been around for most of the stamping history, I had the red rubber stamps. I found Tim when he first started out. I started out in scrapbooking too and transitioned to card making and now junk journaling too. I can say with all truthfulness that card making gave me a way to share when I got cancer the first time in 2002 and re-uped it the second time around three years ago. This time cancer will be with me through the end because it is in my bone marrow, but it doesn't matter. The drive to create is so strong that even though I am home bound, I can connect through the internet. Sorry to say it but covid helped me out a lot with forcing teachers to go on line to teach. Helped me to feel included again for the first time since becoming home bound. Thank you to Aaron for spearheading the industry and to Jennifer for sharing all the wonderful techniques. thanks as always for sharing and all the inspiration.

What a wonderful, informative video. I started making cards in the early 90’s with a holiday card and have made them each year since. I started with two metal stamp pads. One black and one red. I would layout my design and then mass produce them and make over 50 cards to send out to my family and friends. Good watercolor markers and embossing powders changed my card making in the early 90s and it has been a lifelong passion. I have become a RUclips junkie to learn as much as I can. Thank you! I cannot wait to see the next videos.

I started stamping in the early 1980’s. It is amazing how this industry has grown. We had a wonderful local stamp store in the Seattle area, Impress, until just a few years ago, and they sell via website now. I miss visiting and seeing the many rows of stamps and card samples in that store. This was fascinating. Looking forward to future videos in this series.

This is such a delightful and engaging chat. I came across card making last Christmas 2023. I was looking for a nice fountain pen for my new diary and somehow stumbled across die cutting machines etc…. I think RUclips must have recommended a Tim Holtz video. Well, I have been enchanted by this hobby ever since. I had no clue as to the history so thank you all for creating this wonderful series. I’m so looking forward to the next episodes ❤

I grew up in Southern California. My mother was a stamper in the 80's. She would go to warehouse sales at some of those companies mentioned and also their shops. I remember when she learned how to heat emboss at the mercantile building at the Orange Country fair. We would touch the paper to a clothes iron with tweezers to get the powder to melt. The South Coast Plaza got a Stampa Barbara store in their Crystal Court. We could spend HOURS exploring that store!!! Mom had VHS tapes of techniques by Dee Gruiening. Oh the memories...

Oh my goodness! What a treat! I could listen to stories like this all day. I was actually born in 1974 so Hero Arts and I share a similar birthday. As you were talking about the early days it made me think back to my first brush with Hero Arts and it was in college working at Hallmark. As a broke student paying for both rent and tuition myself, buying wood stamps was a splurge, but I would scrimp and save to buy some with my 20% off employee discount. As it turns out my daughter is using the same nightstand right now that I used in college and this talk made me remember my small early 90s collection is still sitting there untouched to this day. I just went and rummaged through them and I have products from 3 of the "big four" with 6 Hero arts rubber stamps dated 1989 to 1991. I also found three Hero Arts ink pads (magenta, an emerald green, and a rainbow trio) from that period that are still as juicy as the day I bought them. They hold such sweet memories for me from that period in my life that I just put them back and closed the drawer. ❤I can't wait to hear part two!

My son was born December of 1998. Right out of the gate I LEARNED to scrapbook from a neighbor who sold D.O.T.S. (Dozens of Terrific Stamps). So right from the first I was scrapbooking with stamps. Just at that point they began to have matching Cardstock, Inks and markers and transitioned to Close To My Heart (which had been the name of their scrapbook line). I remember I would go to the stationary store and buy 8.5x11 stationary (like you would type a Christmas newsletter on) and that was what we had for patterned paper. You had to get creative to make it look good as part of a 12x12 page.

This made my heart so happy! I remember going to our local Craft Warehouse, a small box store where I lived and buying HeroArts stamps in the early 1990s. Then in the mid 1990s I sold Hero stamps from my home based business to two online list groups of rubberstampers. I still have most of my Hero stamps and I still like red rubber over clear stamps. Lol Such a great series! I really enjoyed this video!

I just LOVED listening to ya’ll and learning about the stamping industry!
What a remarkable man Aaron is and his wife sounds just as amazing…I bet I’d have loved his mother (I taught Math for nearly 40 years and some in junior high)…
It’s just wild that I never knew anyone who made cards and I found it through RUclips as I was searching for watercolor tutorials after retiring a couple of years ago …
I’ve been doing arts/crafts (mainly painting and sewing) since high school!! I used to cut out wood shapes for my neighbors children and my niece and nephews to paint…
    Again, I loved this❤
I’ve always found the artsy farts /crafts people to be who I gravitate towards because they have such kind and genuine and generous spirits!!!
Aaron and Jennifer reflect EXACTLY what I love about this group of people so well…
Look forward to hearing about more in the industry and companies…
    Blessings,
    Nancy Rolfe
P.S. I was hooked after a few videos and started buying supplies.
My husband and I joke about my first card…..my $10,000 card 😂😂 was a little difficult to give away…lol
    It’s worth every penny ❤

When we went to Florida in the early 90's I discovered rubber stamping. I didn't know what to do with them but I was fasinated. Cell phones weren't around , so I wrote to everyone a lot the two months we were down there. I got a little palm tree and just stamped it across the letters. Came home and found that I could order a catalog and Hero Arts was then my favorite catalog. Also as they say the rest is history and I wouldn't have it any other way. Thank you for all the great stamps.

Thank you for doing this series. I will be telling my crafty friends about it and encouraging them to watch.
As a crafty consumer and retired CA public school TK (Transitional Kindergarten)/Kindergarten teacher, I think you are right about the stamping/scrapbooking/cardmaking/paper crafting/making industry being unique and welcoming and positive and supportive of each other. I started scrapping in 1994 and eventually transitioned to cardmaking and paper crafting. I was fortunate to be able to attend many expo events, a few trade shows, many crops and classes, a few shop hops, and so on. I can only recall one incident in all those years and events when a fellow participant refused to share class materials provided by the teacher for all of us to use - the teacher (bless her heart) noticed the problem and just kept rotating materials and supplies from neighboring tables to those of us who weren’t getting access to the supplies on our group table while she kept teaching the class and helping when needed. She was AMAZING! I actually have several memories of participants and teachers sharing materials and sometimes even giving items to total strangers to use on a class project. So many fun and positive times and happy memories!

I was a school teacher and would stamp "Good Work" or"Super" on children's paper. Then one day I was in a variety store looking for yarn and happened to see a display of red rubber stamps that had pictures on them fruits and animals flowers and trees, etc. Next to the display of stamps were colored pencils and stamp pads of various colors. I can remember standing there and asking my friend...why would anyone stamp an image and then color it? What would they do with it? Seems kind of nutty. A year later I read about a stamping class and went to it, learned how to stamp an image on a piece of folded paper, colored it and voila, I had made a card and OMG...I was hooked! I've been making cards for the past 27 years.

Wood stamps will always be my favorite stamps. I’m close to Berkeley and I remember those art fairs on Telegraph Ave. We always found interesting stuff. I started scrapbooking in 2004 then taught myself how to make cards. I graduated high school in 1976 and flunked art. From 1976 to 2004 I hated art in all forms because of my failure to do art in my Senior year. Now I have my own craft space and a paper hoarder with tons of crafty stuff.

My mother was a school librarian and my favorite rubber stamp was the "date due" stamp. That was my entry into rubber stamping.

I watched replay. I started out scrapbooking around 2000. I was introduced at home parties. Now I do much less scrapbooking and more card making. Love my stamps!

I was a scrapbooking addict back in the late 70's. At this writing, I am 70 years old. I enjoy making scrapbooks and also make cards which I sell online as well as send many out to family and friends. I love both of these art crafts as special hobbies of mine.
