    I'm a 79 year old motorcycle enthusiast since 14 years of age. I've owned 22 motorcycles in my lifetime so far. Road bikes, dirt bikes, enduros and such. I watched the OCC people in the 2000's with a morbid curiosity. I remember Peter Fonda saying that the "Captain America" chopper was the worst, most dangerous and uncontrollable motorcycle he'd ever ridden in the movie EASY RIDER. I agree 100% with Jay about these rides. The showcase of OCC was the talented craftsmanship of design and paint schemes. But the end product I wouldn't touch with a cattle prod. They should be for display under lights only.

    Television programming was a wasteland at the time OCC came along. Instead of evolving the bikes to be better performance and taste, they became unsustainable sculptures on wheels, laced with cheap parts and thirsty garbage engines. A vertical air cooled twin in a poorly handling heavy theme bike getting 20mpg? If you lay it down, who can fix it?
    But the show became like a hissy fit Jerry Springer garbage drama queen program, and cancelled itself.

    I worked in directly with the Teutul family at the beginning of the premiere of American Chopper. I knew right away when I met Paul Junior and Senior that the show was going to fail and eventually meet its demise as they continued to display their arrogant behavior type of attitude on American Chopper. I had no idea who they were and they asked me if I wanted an autograph safety hazard!? I was completely confused as to why they think I wanted an autograph? The only people that were professional to deal with were Mikey, Vinny and Rick. Everyone else was completely professional and such a disgrace, and it was only a matter of time until the truth came out about how much the company operated. However it does seem that Paul Jr has changed his attitude towards his success as to what i once remembered when i was associated with the company. I’d say Leno not Lano’s perspective is spot on. By the way you need to work on your pronunciation of the peoples names who you mentioned in this video. Such as. Teutul and Leno. Overall a good video and perspective of the overall story of the rise and fall of OCC.

    My first issue with OCC was that they chose Harley Davidsons to build his leathal nightmares. His entire staffs total skill didn't evenbegin to approach Jesse James true metal craftsman ship like Ken Foose. The theatrics at OCC was embarrasing to watch and an insult on the 1%ers public.immage. They were like a stage act of male Karens. I wouldn't ride anything they built. They never really built anything. They just assembled premade assemblies in ridiculas assortments of dangerous grouping of metal sculptures. Nothing to be put to the real life tests of the road. Just silly looking assembled jokes around embarrsssed Harley Davidson souls.

The artwork sucked, fit & finish was lackluster to say the least. OC bikes, just like Jesse James bikes are art, not for daily riders. Choppers in general are all about appearance. Want a comfortable trip, or daily rider bike buy a Gold Wing. Anyone thats rode a rigid would tell you in a second it's gonna cause you a lot of physical pain, unless you have some unbelievably great seat, and you only ride on roads as smooth as glass

    When we saw a new episode on prime time and saw how it looked like they were doing a hack job cobbling together a motorcycle was one example. The next time I saw a chopper rolling down a 4 lane divided concrete highway the sight of the rear tire bouncing high enough to loose contact I thought that was stupid and dangerous, not to mention very hard on the rider's spine. Then throw in the inflated price several times more than a regular bike.

    The OCC bikes are clearly built as showpieces and advertising items/company billboards. I think it is useless and unfair to judge them as if they were ever meant to be serious roadgoing motorcycles. IMO you can only judge them as stationary pieces of motorcycle art that were never meant to be truly ridden.

    The carefully scripted fights and stunts part of the chopper show was some of the appeal to people who didn't realize it was just theater. The choppers are no more ride able than Roy Roger's stuffed "Trigger". They're creative art, but unsafe at any speed.

  • @jpol3808
    @jpol3808 19 дней назад

    I feel their biggest draw back was swapping the practicality and safety necessary for the daily riding, cruising aspect, for customized works of art, that appeal to extreme enthusiasts and the person asking for the build, but lack the rideability and safety. That's where they failed. The failure was in combining both worlds, so the bikes not only had the customized show stopping, jaw dropping appeal, but we're actually safely rideable as well! I agree with Jay! Beautiful to look at...... but according to the owners of them..... Don't ride them!

    Interesting show. I guess you can make a comparison to the cusom cars you see built on TV. You see them at car shows all the time. Trailer queens that look cool rumbling across the show field. High horsepower engines that never hit 3000 rpm. They're not meant to drive. It's obvious. 3" off the ground. Tires 1/2" away from fenders. Excessive chopped tops. It's all uncomfortable for any length of time. It's meant to be like that.
    Cars that are drivers can also look great. But just need to be lifted a bit. That's the plus for air bags. Lower it at the car show or cruise.
    Build your bike or car so it's road worthy and safe and drive it. Enjoy it !! As someone remarked, it's not a Christmas tree!

    OCC was a reality show, and their bikes was made as sculptures. Not as driveable bikes. You will find the same in cars, like a certain canadian custom car builder that manges to build cars where you cant even change the battery without picking the whole shitshow to pieces. OCC did not build bikes, they made art. Looks looks looks, as the Sparks said. Nothing more.Not for me, and I guess not for Leno, but thats ok. If you want something parked in front of your fireplace, OCC might be for you, if you like that kind of shit. I dont care. I love 60s bikes from Great Britain. Its personal taste. Others might like Harley Davidson. Good for you. But you should understand what you are buying. And no biker took those "creations" seriously.
