- Recently unearthed amateur footage of Dead Can Dance in 1984. This is the first part, second is coming soon. 3 songs exist on video from the gig itself, ok quality. All of these give us a nice example of how a DCD live show looked like in the early `80s.
1. Carnival of Light (Lisa solo on yangquin)
2. Carnival of Light (Lisa solo again)
3. The Trial (unfinished)
4. The Trial (2nd half) Видеоклипы
This video is a real treasure. Thank you for posting 🙏
Fabulous! I first saw them in London supporting the Cocteau Twins, but this show in Bedford was much more intimate. Especially for anyone who got to witness the rather heated argument between Lisa and Brendan in the car park afterwards!
There's an audio recording of this show, and the sound is equal to the sound of this video recording, which makes me think this video is longer than what's avaiable here. Here's the setlist of the audio recording:
01 Yan T'Chin - Instrumental II (soundcheck)
02 Carnival of Light (soundcheck)
03 Trial
04 Passage in Time
05 Ocean
06 Labour of Love
07 Threshold
08 Flowers of the Sea
09 Eastern
10 East of Eden
11 Wild in the Woods
12 Carnival of Light
Keep coming back to this because it is fantastic to see DCD right back at the start of their careers.
People used to feel too old for some things, i feel too young when i heard them, love dcd
Perfectly true, I didn't get into them unfortunately until I'd passed my 30th birthday, had I known London was their home base in the 80's when it would have been easier to see them gig more often when they were heavier sounding, I would have been over the moon! Nevertheless, my initiation for them was quite cinematic anyway as I was played their album 'Aion', almost as soon as I sat down in the most jaw dropping restaurant I ever visited! It was in North West London, called Transylvania, & yes, it was based on vampires! Like a set in the Castle of Vlad Dracula, from Scorsese's film! Don't book a trip to go there though, as it has long since shut it's doors! This was December 1997! In any case though, they've become my fave band ever since, although if the most recent release Dionysus is the direction they are going if that isn't it 4 them now, I dearly hope they have a reconsideration as to what has been inspiring them! After all, so many untapped horizons yet to explore!
Wow just came across these 3 videos and they filled my heart with joy. First saw DCD the same year but in March supporting Fad Gadget at London Lyceum. Blown away by them, bought the first LP and the rest is history. Consider myself lucky to have been in the right place at the right time. Thanks for posting these wonderful early clips!
Same as you the best time to see them was around 1984/90. Saw them numerous times in London/Birmingham .
No doubt you were also at the Town and Country club gigs.
I was 5 in this year. They are one of my favorite bands. Here they are closer to goth than after when I got into them- into the labyrinth.
nothing short of pure magic
piece of history
These two are magnificent!
Love this group/experience. Jim Baker introduced them to me ~20 years ago. Priceless gift of their music he gave me! Thanks, Jim!
lisa, beautiful personification of ancient arcane arts
What a great band! Ignored them a little bit in the eighties because I thought they were one these fashionable New Wave bands but they are more...much more...really interested in music not fashion...
4:20 Labour of love!
OMG OMG OMG i love it
Played live last Week on their 2019 tour. The first time since 1984 !!
is that the name of the song??
ok - found it now thanks to you. I LOVE the song in the soundcheck though I can't say i like the proper version as much - this is much more minimal and nicer
I am fan of DCD since 1988 and i really love their music, thanks for post this piece of DCD history. Kindly Regards
"The Trial" sounds a lot different but it sounds good; gotta love that typical drum machine sound of the 80's with all the gothic/darkwave bands~ ;)
wow thats 2 years before I saw them the first time
Thank you so much for posting this! Long time DCD fan, love their work. Lovely to see this footage, I keep coming back to it over and over.
same for me and I was into the band then. How the years pass.
6:36 eeeeeew!

OMG!
I wish I were there!
(although I was born in the year before...)

THE TRIAL
I was there!
Madre mía, vaya documento. Gracias por compartirlo !!!
this is amazing. i'm in heaven
Should think the whole of Bedford could hear this! Absolutely awesome; The Trial = an Indie Classic! In my all time Top 10.
thanks a lot for share this!!!!
Bonjour mon ami ! very nice sound awesome merci pour ton partage musical mes amitiés Luiz
Love it! Wish I could have been there.
thanks for the document...
Weren't those the days - Lisa looking and sounding beautiful and terrible as the dawn, and BP with hair on his head and no frog in his throat.
And - always a pleasure to hear these early classics, especially the ultra-rare "Labour" (when it arrives).
played on their 2019 tour last weekend . See it on you tube !
That must be Scott on bass. I recognize that Vox bass!!! Wow!!
Wonderful!!!
Magia
wonderful! thanks so much!
Adore 'em...
Esto es maravilloso >
THAAAAANKS !!!
Saw DCD on this tour at JB's Dudley and then in 1987 @ Tower ballroom B'ham. Think the 1980's albums and Aion 1990 were the best. Still good now but they were great then.
F A N T A S T I C !!!!
when that woman opens her mouth to sing i feel as time stopped and all the angels in heaven started crying. im just glad she didnt turn to boring-as-shit opera singing.
Lisa G in opera, now that's a night out I'd go to actually, think of all the venue's where her theatrical talents could excel gothwise, etc?
'80s indeed :)
wow!!!!!!!!
@renocumberdale omfg truely awesome!
Hammered Dulcimer
How old were Lisa and Brendan then? They look unfed!!
They were both mid 20's.
they were living in a council home state in the London East End worst part, in front of a landfill. There were robberies, fights, knife gangs. It was a tough time, tough place. Unfed? I won't be surprised. Funny was, according to an interview Lisa gave several years ago, that London was ahead of better than Melbourne and a certain heavy heroine drug scene in that aussie city 🙄🤷♂️
Funny how Lisa plays the drums. It seems she was an angry assassin
🤟🏻🤟🏻🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
They were just babies...
What is the Brendan Perry's guitar and amp?
What in the world is that guitar brand? Wahi' Valleys
Head to facebook.com/groups/bedfordmusic/ and search 'Dead Can Dance'... all knowledge on this gig is here :)
whats the name of the instrument that lisa is playing?
abedegebede yangquin
@@fabiorock6 I thought it was a santori.
Is it Bedford in the UK or in the USA? Anybody knows?
Bedford UK on the band's first major UK tour. Looks like a hot summers day in July in that basement.
Note I doubt more than handful in the USA would have even been aware of the band in 1984.
Thank you for you comment. Now I'm curious whereabouts in Bedford would it be??
Greetings
Bart Pietrenko You are welcome:
Bedford Boys club Bradgate Road. A famous venue during that decade that saw many well known and later famous acts play there.
But for me this was the best as DCD are one of my Fav bands ever. Still around nowadays but the 1980's was the best time to see the band (the 1980's albums and "Aion" 1990 were awesome)
Thank you again for your information Mr Keith. It is also one of my fav bands. I'd love to see them in Bedford at this time you have seen them :) Unfortunately these days they are famous and choose different venues.. I like also the fact there were (Boy's Club) some gigs by Dif Juz and Cocteau Twins. Not far from the place I used to play badminton.. Greetings. Bart
Bart Pietrenko Glad to help. I last saw DCD in 1990 in London. Not able to get a ticket for the more recent tour in London. Still I think I saw the band back at their best in the 1980's.
Did you used to live in Bedford then ?
udri liska, ožeži!
Golden age of music, but DAAAAMN those video cameras are crap!
Lisa would have been 23, Brendan 25.
