In this video I would like to talk about Some facts about local government bodies of India.
1) India is a federal republic with three spheres of
administrative government, union, state and local.
2) Local self government in India refers to
government juridictions below the level of the
state.
3)The 73rd & 74th constitutional amendments give
recognition and protection to local governments
and in addition each state has its own local
government legislation.
4)The democratically elected local self-governance
bodies are called municipalities in urban area and
the panchayats in rural area.
5) There are 3 types of municipalities based on the
population.
6)Panchayat in rural areas have 3 hierarchies of
panchayats.
7)Local governments get funds from various taxes
& grants from state governments.
8)State has its own election commission which
conducts election to all local bodies after regular
intervals of five years.
9)Seats are reserved in the corporation &
municipalities for scheduled castes and tribes.50%
seats are reserved for women in all local bodies.
10)There are 27 municipal corporation in
Maharashtra.
11)There are 236 municipal corporation in all over
India.
12)Brihamumbai municipal corporation of mumbai
is the richest and the largest municipal corporation
in India.
13) Chennai corporation is the oldest municipal
corporation .It is the first municipal corporation in
India.
