Thank you! I am guilty of it, especially when I first cut my hair. lol I would check it every Monday as like clock work. And then I began to realize enjoy the journey and love the hair that I already have.
Exactly! For me, if I keep up with my ends I can retain most of my length. We all get lazy and side tracked, but it if I notice that I start to get lazy, I just wrap my hair up during the day and then use my bonnet at night. keeping them moisturized is very important as well, that where people get it wrong with protective styling. Thank you so much for watching Demi.
Trimming is always something I’m quick to do, the problem though was keeping my hair moisturized/conditioned, since I’m a lazy natural. I solved that problem with grease and water(only), now my hair is thicker, softer, stronger than ever
Hello Mani! Yes trimming is very important and for a lot of people a game changer as well as keep hair moisturized. My hair completely changed when I started doing both consistently
how do you use grease and water. After I take these braids out I'm putting mini twists in with grease and I'll use water, moisturizer, and grease while in the twists
This is the first year I haven't trimmed my hair, I have always had split ends 😩 and my beauty school teacher said it was probably just genic 😐. Anyway, in order for me to retain length while having split ends has always been with braids ( instead of twists) with flaxseed gel or creams. You have to keep those ends protected, moisturized, and off of your clothes. I'm currently at 22 inches with split ends, so hang in there ladies and follow the tips in this video 👏🏾❤️🌈😘!
Hello Elexus Loves Her Life! Thank you so much for watching! Congratulations on 22 inches and length retention. I know split ends and fairy knots are the Bain of our existence and I know everyone is different and different methods work for different people, as long as you are able to retain and keep your ends in check! When I started wearing mini twists habitually I would dip my ends in melted coco butter lol I wanted to make sure they coated so if they did brush against my clothing the coco butter would be the first to go. Then I got so paranoid lol I just started wearing them in a bun
This is something to think about. It seems its hard to beat spilt ends but the thing for me how do ppl know that spilts are really bad I think some rules are just made up.
When I was a kid, my mum forced me to sleep with a bonnet and I hated it so much but as I grew up, I noticed that it saves me a lot of time in the morning as my hair is already tangle free 🥰🥰🥰
lol go momma, I had to wear one as well. Yes wearing a bonnet can definitely help with tangles in the morning. Thank you so much for watching Nutellix.
Hello! thank you so much for watching! Yes your hair is always growing, we just have to learn our hair and tend to it. Thank you so much for watching and I hope to continue to share my experience and knowledge!
I don’t like protective styles. I never did. I like combing my hair out of my wrap and going on w my day. I just make sure to keep my hair and ends moisturized and strong.
Hello! Protective styling isn’t for everyone. At this point I don’t have the time to comb my hair every day lol , I wouldn’t be able to work my assignments, but as long as you are keeping up with your ends and tending to your tresses I love it. There are so many many ways to take care of our hair. Thank you so much for watching Dani!
My hair grew to waist length naturally on its own without me doing anything. My hair has always grew long naturally but I've been trying to get it to butt length for the longest time. I will take these tips.
I’ve kept my hair in a silk wrap of some kind at night for my entire life. It makes a huge difference. Beautiful hair is protected hair. My hairdresser taught me not to touch my hair. Also there are hair band holders that are very soft fabrics, flexible and larger than the ones that you showed, think I bought mine from Target. Great tips for all hair types, my type is low porosity, mixed 2c - 3b with a little 3c. You are beautiful, keep up the good work!
YES! those two tips is what caused my set back in 2017. I stopped trimming my ends and I would keep my hair in a bun and I would not take it down to moisturize it
I agree with you on the length checks. I just stopped doing length checks monthly. I’m going to take a long break from it. Thanks for the tips. God bless!
Thank you! I’m sure your protective styles looks better than you think! We are sometimes our worst enemy, I had an awkward phase with my protective styling. Thank you so much for watching.
i literally swear by mini twists, i hope to see a similar to length as you currently have before the end of this year. When I get tired of my shoulder length twists I install marley twists, passion twists or faux locs. I like to use a fenugreek and aloe vera spray nightly, and I mist my scalp with different oils I make...between styles I wash and do a protein treatment. I might wear my hair blow dried for a week or two and then right back into a protective style. This is my new routine and I will likely never change. I am over daily natural hair styling, I like mini twists because they mimic loose hair but its totally protected!
Exactly! I rarely "do" my hair every single day these days, especially since this assignment is from home. I love your haircare regime, simple and easy. I loooove fenugreek but my husband ( I smiled when I said that, we got married Sunday )is allergic lol. I love aloe I use the plant and the juice. As far as blow drying is concerned I do that 1-2 a year and then one of those times I will straighten my hair so I can do areal trim/cut.
I swear by them too, my nephew has been in mini twist since the age of 2 and he's now 8 years old with hip length hair! LOL! He loves it and doesn't plan on cutting it at this point. I think he loved the attention he was getting in school pre-pandemic.
@@KlassicallyKept Yes, they are quite adorable. My sister is a lazy natural/minimalist as well. She will redo his twists every 2 weeks, mid-week moisturizing... that's literally it! AND she's been using the exact same leave-in concoction since they started the hair journey almost 7 years ago! Gotta love it!
This is facts I do the same things with my girls hair and mine and we are at waist lenght ,..and we are going to continue doing it we make sure to keep our hair ends especially moisturized it really helps ,.
Great tips. Great explanations and encouragement. Will continue to minimize my use of hair elastic bands. Will add Aloe vera juice and Avocado oil spritz to my collection 3 days a week. Thank you for sharing, sis.

Thank you for saying no tight styles. I'm very gentle with my hair because it's soooo soft. I created a *signature* style 😎 & it's natural & very simple & gentle.
Good morning! Yes absolutely, tight styles can absolutely destroy your hair. I created a s signature style as well , its simple , easy, elegant , and loose !

I just watched your video and I’m so glad I did! It really encouraged me. I said this year I’ll stay on my trims and I literally just dusted my ends 2 days ago. I really need to love on my ends so I can retain more length! Also I’m leaning towards more natural hairstyles such as buns/ mini twists or boho braids and use of claw clips. This is first time in a long time I’ve left my hair alone! I hope I can keep it up and just watch it grow 😅🙏🏽
Hello Shay! I am so glad this video helped and inspired you. I find that when I leave my hair alone it thrives, of course keeping up with my trims and dusting in between! Let me know if you see any changes! Thank you so much for watching !
I can’t wait! I hope that there are tips for single strand knots because I have been natural for 4 years and I started seeing the fairy knots when my hair reached my neck. I tried stretching it on low heat, castor oil on the ends with a fresh trim but they come immediately. I have a lot of fine strands and the twist see, to encourage them or when I add any moisture to the ends.
Same! I also have fine hair (it’s waist length now) and get a TON of single strand knots. I’ve been wearing my hair in small twists, so I just search and destroy with a pair of hair sheers while I watch TV

Good morning! Making your own hair products is the best , can be time consuming it worth the benefits. I have found that twists help me retain my length Thank you so much for watching !
Thank you JoJo. Natural healthy hair has quickly become one of my passions. If my story and experiences can help another out another queen I am willing to share. I hope to continue to give you relevant and important tips for all things healthy hair !
Hmmm is lazy natural synonymous with a natural that’s not harassing their strands all day long? I actually wear my hair in twists just so I’m not tempted to style my hair nearly as much (10 second half up half down or a ponytail everyday) 🤷🏾♀️
Hello! Yes ma am! I call it "hand is hair syndrome", which putting my hair in twists and keeping them up has alleviated that! I stick with the low bun and and the klassic krown hairstyles. Low manipulation is always best !Thank you so much for watching !
Yes, indeed! Becoming a "lazy natural" is what allowed me to retain the most length... and knowing that I was being "lazy" yet careful allowed me to be more patient and not do constant length checks which can ultimately lead to an excessive amount of damage and frustration as well.
@@amilya4u304 exactly! The number one thing I tell people who ask me how to retain their length , “ keep your hands out of your hair.” People are surprised how their hair flourishes once they leave it alone
@@KlassicallyKept @Klassically Kept No doubt about it! That is a large portion of the science behind "protective styling" because your hands are out of your hair. I found that I was able to retain just as much length with my hair in braids as I was with stretching a blowout over 2 weeks to a month just by not constantly touching my hair. Our hair wants to be left alone. Constant touching equals manipulation, period. I'm glad you're emphasizing the importance of this matter.
I would love a video on how to do jumbo twists so they lay nicely and the roots don’t have the jumbo twist sticking out your head looking circa pre1865 👀😂 not sure why mines never come out looking gorgeous like yours!
Nothing hurts me like trimming my hair😫I still do it though. I don't have a certain period of time I use to trim my hair, I just feel how my ends are and my hair always feel good after!
Hello Philile! Yes I use to hang on to my ends, but then I realized it really didn’t look good and actually once I trimmed my ends my hair felt and looked so much better !
How is everyone keeping mini twist from tangling up? These mini twist over here like to tangle together at the ends so we had to switch to 4 big braids to prevent the individual braids from tangling together.
I just can't leave my hair in bantu knots like some people wear braids. I think your hair needs to be combed and redone. I have seen people have braids in 6 weeks or more, and when they take their hair down they're combing out clumps of hair. No, I can't do that to my hair. I wouldn't let my girls hair be braided up 6 weeks. I would take their hair down on the 3rd day comb it and rebraid it.
In tip 3 you mentioned you will "re-gel" your hair when needed, but I don't understand where that came in because b4 that u said you just spray your hair with the water aloe and avocado oil and use slmond jai. You never mentioned gel anywhere in the video b4 that point when you say that you re-gel certain twists that have come undone ---so am a little confused .... In order to RE-gel you have to have put gel in first place, but did not see that discussed gel previously. Confused! Likely bc I cant find a healthy gel that works for my hair without breakage. 😊❤
Thank you for that. So even those get tangled in hair , good to know! I stopped using the regular ponytail holders years ago! Thank you so much for watching Schyler
I cant comb my hair every 3 days, lol I don't have that kind of time anymore. When I was in college, I would comb my hair I would say at least twice a week and then just wear it in low bun without mini twists.
I just can't do twists. My hair likes it way too much. I swear to god! My hair is like a living vine. If I wear twists something happens with my hair and its like "Oh yeah! She did it again!" And it locks! And tangles. I can not wear twists and I want to so bad!
@@KlassicallyKept I have. And if I do put my hair in twists I can't twist to the ends. I have to do mid shaft or my hair literally locks and I am talking after 2 days!
My hair is so fine.. Its hard to keep in twists but i have learned to just make them a little bigger and secure at night. I love my bonnet lol... My bff❤
I never straighten mine when its hot outside. For me it doesn't make sense, my roots will snap back and the rest of my hair will get frizzy. I have also been told that becasue my hair is not "heat trained" it will not hold up in warmer weather. I straighten mine for my birthday , which is in December.
I am sorry to hear that, I try to keep my hair regime simple and natural. Have you compared ingredients in the products you are using to see if there is a common culprit ?
I loves these tips but I know I will never have waist length hair. The most I can hope for is to my shoulder blades. My hair is fine ( low density and fine hair shaft), low porosity and breaks easily. 😫
Don't say that! I use to think that as well, but once I started learning and doing research on my hair I got my regime down pack and started to see results.
Do protein treatment every 2 months follow by a deep conditioner to balance moisture back to your hair, deep condition under dryer every time hair is washed, oil ends with olive oil, take hair vitamins with water every day, do the LOC method, don’t have your hair out too much
Hello Blessing, I definitely understand that , I went through that phase all well. I plateaued for a while and what truly helped me was learning what my hair did and did not like. For instance wash and go's are not my friend. If you are looking for thicker hair try lavender oil if you are looking for growth try a fenugreek mask.
Use a moisturizing leave in conditioner from mid to end of hair strands and then seal it will an oil of choice. And then for your protective style just put your hair in a bun; use a hair clip or Bobby pins. I find sometimes hair scrunched weaken my hair on my crown.
Waist length hair is more of a pain in the ass than anything you can't do anything it's heavy as hell you can barely sit down without sitting on it you can't shut the door without shutting it in the door... maybe no further than mid-back they can keep that waist-length hair...🤣🤣🤣🤔
lol I understand long hair isn't for everyone. I only wear mine straight a couple of weeks out of the year and then I'm curly for the rest of the year. I will say after about 2 weeks I am over it lol
Im sorry if this is personal but im really curious what if you have a husband and you engage in sexual acts would your hair still break off from friction if you lay your head on a silk pillow case?
Lol its okay, no it will not break off. I'm just extra cautious, I've had silk pillow cases and still wore a bonnet or scarf. Over time if you continue to sleep without the silk pillow case or lay your head on a cotton pillow case without protection you will begin to see breakage.
My 4ab hair goes down to my butt. I keep my hair in thin twists and pretty much follow the tips with few exceptions and add others to my regimen. During that time, I use a loc soc and wrap it around like a wide headband. I put my hair up and tuck the ends into the loc soc.
Lol a lot of people have the misconception that being natural is taking the easy way out and being natural. I cant just roll over, get out of bed, and just leave the house.
"A watched pot never boils" Nice tip on the constant length check.
Thank you! I am guilty of it, especially when I first cut my hair. lol I would check it every Monday as like clock work. And then I began to realize enjoy the journey and love the hair that I already have.

My mother makes her on Shea butter mixture with whatever she puts in it my sister twists her hair maybe once a month and she been doing this since she's been able to do her own hair which one she was little she had a head full of hair and now my sister is 30 and my sister here is past her bra strap or maybe longer but because she keep her hair twist we will never know and she don't get pressed and curls don't get nothing just regular twist I'm a little jealous but I'm happy for her
Good morning!
Making your own hair products is the best , can be time consuming it worth the benefits.
I have found that twists help me retain my length
Thank you so much for watching !
Love ❤️ your tips and you are absolutely stunning! So glad I found your channel and I look forward to learning more from you! 😊
Thank you JoJo. Natural healthy hair has quickly become one of my passions. If my story and experiences can help another out another queen I am willing to share. I hope to continue to give you relevant and important tips for all things healthy hair !
You are beautiful! Lovely skin
Thank you bbgumbabe!
Very useful information thank you.
thank you
Yh this is just the video I’ll link to everyone from now on
I would love a video on how to do jumbo twists so they lay nicely and the roots don’t have the jumbo twist sticking out your head looking circa pre1865 👀😂 not sure why mines never come out looking gorgeous like yours!
Well, that is mostly due to you seeing all their shedding at once. Hair sheds 100strands a day
yes ma am, it does !
Be careful with the pearl ponytail holders! My niece’s hair got tangled around all of the pearls :(
Thank you for that. So even those get tangled in hair , good to know! I stopped using the regular ponytail holders years ago! Thank you so much for watching Schyler
Please do a protective styles video
coming right up lol
You are such a beauty, God bless you !
New subscriber!
Thank you so much! And thank you for subscribing!
Excellent tips❤
However, I do comb my hair and redo them every 3 days
I cant comb my hair every 3 days, lol I don't have that kind of time anymore. When I was in college, I would comb my hair I would say at least twice a week and then just wear it in low bun without mini twists.
Nice video!! Where do you buy your headbands from?
Thank you! Shop bop, Banana republic, ASOS.
I trim my hair every month on the new moon. Just a habit, cause that's how I grew up doing. Works for me.
Trimming your ends is so important, and that is exactly what the culprit was back in 2017 when I I had a set back, I cut 5 inches off.
Yes, that's what my grandmothers taught us as well, and they both had hair down to their butts.
@@amilya4u304 see gramma knows lol. And they were not doing all this crazy stuff to those hair, they kept it simple.
@@KlassicallyKept precisely! A simple braid, bun and occasional roller set was good enough
@@amilya4u304 Buns are one of my go to, simple and elegant
Thanks for the advice such a gorgeous head of hair
Hello Shannon! Thank you and of course !
I refuse to wear a bonnet ..No bonnets for me .. Only silk pillows and silk sheets
lol yes Ma’am! I love that too. As long as you keeping your tresses protected I love it!
Her: * gives a weekly schedule for hair maintenance *
Also her: “I’m a lazy natural “
😩😭😂
lol listen! its a struggle lol
I just can't do twists. My hair likes it way too much. I swear to god! My hair is like a living vine. If I wear twists something happens with my hair and its like "Oh yeah! She did it again!" And it locks! And tangles. I can not wear twists and I want to so bad!
Awww I'm sorry, I live in my twists , they help me retain my length. Have you tried stretching before you twist?
@@KlassicallyKept I have. And if I do put my hair in twists I can't twist to the ends. I have to do mid shaft or my hair literally locks and I am talking after 2 days!
@@jenniferhalliwell416 Bantu knot the ends. Look up videos on hanging Bantu knots
@@Superlife1369 I will try it thanks sis.. I love our community! We are all helping each other and its beautiful to see!
@@jenniferhalliwell416 Oh yes ma’am we must unite. And yes, it is a beautiful sight.
My hair is so fine.. Its hard to keep in twists but i have learned to just make them a little bigger and secure at night. I love my bonnet lol... My bff❤
lol my bonnet has saved my life, I have backups. If you are trying to thicken your hair try, castor oil, lavender oil, or amla powder.
Yes, indeed! I can't imagine life without my bonnet(s) aka Besties!
How does the inversion method cause damage, but yoga doesn’t?? Mfs be all types of ways doing yoga. The inversion method works
Do you ladies have a particular season you like to straighten your hair?
I like doing mine in Spring...😊
I never straighten mine when its hot outside. For me it doesn't make sense, my roots will snap back and the rest of my hair will get frizzy. I have also been told that becasue my hair is not "heat trained" it will not hold up in warmer weather. I straighten mine for my birthday , which is in December.
Do put any natural products in my hair because I am allergic to them.
I am sorry to hear that, I try to keep my hair regime simple and natural. Have you compared ingredients in the products you are using to see if there is a common culprit ?
Thanks i needed that😘
Hello Roslynne! You’re welcome! Always here to give tips and inspire . Thank you so much for watching
Do protein treatment every 2 months follow by a deep conditioner to balance moisture back to your hair, deep condition under dryer every time hair is washed, oil ends with olive oil, take hair vitamins with water every day, do the LOC method, don’t have your hair out too much
I just need a miracle at this point...
I would not go to sleep in a bonnet! I’m more of a Silk Scarf sistah, I love to be beautiful and bonnets don’t give that for me.
Definitely understand that! As long as your hair is protected!
So I’m white with 3b hair with some 3c. I cant do protective styles, but do you have any I could do to retain length?
Use a moisturizing leave in conditioner from mid to end of hair strands and then seal it will an oil of choice. And then for your protective style just put your hair in a bun; use a hair clip or Bobby pins. I find sometimes hair scrunched weaken my hair on my crown.
My hair gets so frizzy in protective styles.
THANK YOU
Waist length hair is more of a pain in the ass than anything you can't do anything it's heavy as hell you can barely sit down without sitting on it you can't shut the door without shutting it in the door... maybe no further than mid-back they can keep that waist-length hair...🤣🤣🤣🤔
lol I understand long hair isn't for everyone. I only wear mine straight a couple of weeks out of the year and then I'm curly for the rest of the year. I will say after about 2 weeks I am over it lol
Thank goodness for shrinkage.
😭😭😭I'm guessing you don't have shrinkage huh
Are bantu knots good
Everything in moderation and not too tight.
Do you have a 'lisp' girl?
lol no I don't , but I do jumble my words
Best❤💫
Thank you
I hate wearing bonets to bed but i think i need to start getting used to it
Hello N A ! I get it trust me.
Try a silk pillow case or even maybe a silk scarf to wrap around your hair. Just use something to protect your hair 😊
@@KlassicallyKept thank you 🙏
@@na3766 welcome
@@nicholeh1280 I love this simple and easy. I like to keep my hair regime simple and easy. I put mine up in the house so I keep my hands out of it.
When I'm home, I wear my hair in bantu knots.
I wear mine in a low bun, or wrap my mini twits up.
❤

Hello Lydia! LMBO yes ma am! It's a no no, it should be a commandment for naturalistas ! Thank you so much for watching !
Those telephone cord ties are horrible for my hair.
Genetics. I dont do nothing and my hair grow.
Yes genetics does play a part. The tips that I shared are what have helped me grow and retain my length.
Everyone’s hair grows (unless there is alopecia or other medical issue) genetics affects growth, maintenance affects retention
You are far from being a lazy natural. 😆
Lol a lot of people have the misconception that being natural is taking the easy way out and being natural. I cant just roll over, get out of bed, and just leave the house.
