This is one of the most important films of all time. It is probably my favourite movie. I must have watched it 20 times in my life. It's been a favourite of mine for my entire life. Perfect casting, all around.
One of my favorite 80s movies of all time. I can still quote so much from this movie. So cool to hear from these two. You can tell they had fun with this one.
There’s something so special about this film. Everybody I speak to who loves it and who grew up watching it lights up when they talk about it. John Carpenter, James Hong, Kurt Russell, Kim Cattrall have all talked about how special the film is to them as well. Naturally, I took it very seriously as a kid. And that’s stayed with me. I know it’s a comedy but for me it’s so much more than that and I’m so glad so many people out there feel the same way
My favourite thing about this is that the commentaries for Escape From New York, The Thing and Big Trouble were all recorded on the same exact day at Carpenter’s home. Russell brought whisky and Carpenter had beers. Gradually, each commentary becomes more unhinged, as the two become more and more drunk and disorderly. It makes it so funny to me that essentially we’re hearing two old friends get drunk and reminisce about their youths.
This is in my top 5 fav movies that I could watch at anytime since I was a kid. Really cool to hear Kurt and John talk a little bit about it. Thank you!!
Would rent this movie EVERY time we’d spend the weekend at my grandmothers back in the 80’s. Such a classic film, and will always have a special place in my heart thanks to Carpenter, Russell and a brilliant ensemble.
This is a perfect movie. Kurt Russell was perfect in his role. I watched this at least 5x. Great cast, direction, script, coloring, editing ... everything.
I was 14 when this came out. Back then movies like Big Trouble, Highlander, Red Dawn, etc were all high cinema to me. It was a time when I was getting too old for Disney classics but couldn't get in to see restricted movies yet, so I and my friends would try to go to anything with a PG-13 rating because we knew we'd get to see action scenes like we had never seen before.
"Like I told my last wife, I says, "Honey, I never drive faster than I can see. Besides that, it's all in the reflexes". (takes a bite of his hoagie sandwich as he's driving). So many good quotes from this movie!
One of those that never ages or grows old, yet it been wit me for what seems ages and brings back memories of old. I cant tell you how many lines from this movie are just engrained and spring out of me when the moment arrives…like “howed you get up there…wasnt easy” or “its all in the reflexes…so great
If you listen to the entire commentary it comes off as two friends just shooting the breeze. I believe there was a time when John Carpenter asked about what was going on with him(Kurt Russell), and he goes on and talks about his son playing hockey. And they even talk about how people who just started listening to the commentary will be wondering what the heck is going on. They just seem to really enjoy their time together.
Ya know one my all time favorites, I watch it for a good laugh, but then I always remember it scared me quite a lot, especially the very end. No sequel thank god.
I loved this movie as a kid. I honestly have never forgotten this crazy film. In all my life. You guys knocked thsi one out of the box. I love this movie. 🎉
This and Three Amigos are the only 2 movies I can remember watching at the theater with my 2 brothers growing up. We watched many others but these two are the ones we left the theater just laughing and talking about the movie still. I realized young that movie critics are not really that useful. Probably just critics in general. You enjoy what you enjoy.
I graduated in 86, and I remember my buddies and I had nothing to do but try to find beer on a nightly basis. 5 of us would get some beer and head to the $1 movie theater off Coit Rd in Richardson, TX. We discovered this gem, and I SWEAR, we went and saw it 5 nights in a row! We quoted it, acted it, and even used the hand signals from the film in real life!! Laughing at all times of course. This is one of the most important films of all time. It is probably my favourite movie. I must have watched it 20 times in my life. It's been a favourite of mine for my entire life. Perfect casting, all around.
I found it as a 12 year old and loved it and still love it now..........
One of my favorite 80s movies of all time. I can still quote so much from this movie.
So cool to hear from these two. You can tell they had fun with this one.
I could listen to Kurt´s laugh the whole day
There’s something so special about this film. I know it’s a comedy but for me it’s so much more than that and I’m so glad so many people out there feel the same way
It's always a joy hearing these two talk about their films
I love how in every commentary they have together, kurt and john truly love and get a kick out of each other
I saw this movie on VHS in the late 80's, It was great.
I have the entire movie's dialog memorized, by all characters, in scene order, I have seen it so much.
Any idea in which order they were recorded?
@@robertpotts3399 as far as I know chronological, as I listed above :)
Makes sense chronically. Have and heard all three but with this new perspective, I’m sure I’ll enjoy them more now. Thanks appreciate it.
This is my favorite movie of all time.
John carpenter is my favourite director, what a film
This is in my top 5 fav movies that I could watch at anytime since I was a kid. Really cool to hear Kurt and John talk a little bit about it. Thank you!!
One of the best movies ever made. About time 😂❤😊
John and Kurt, thank you for this movie and many more. 👏👏👏👏👏❤️
I saw this on July 3rd with 6 friends from High School, and said to them, this is going to Win an Academy Award.
And they thought I was NUTS!😂
Would rent this movie EVERY time we’d spend the weekend at my grandmothers back in the 80’s. Such a classic film, and will always have a special place in my heart thanks to Carpenter, Russell and a brilliant ensemble.
This is a true classic, a great movie, thru & thru! A movie that makes me wish I had kids, just to be able to introduce them to gems like this.
Saw this movie in theaters. Have loved it ever since.
"Like I told my last wife, I says, "Honey, I never drive faster than I can see. Besides that, it's all in the reflexes".
(takes a bite of his hoagie sandwich as he's driving).
So many good quotes from this movie!
These two need to do commentary on Captain Ron. Doesn’t matter Carpenter didn’t work on it, it needs to happen.
There's still plenty of time for a sequel.
James Hong...Lopan is still around! Id love some crazy sequel
I've read they're drinking and get more hilarious as they talk.
This movie is so so good…I love Kurt!
Bro! You listened! Now can get THE COLOR OF MONEY! And i’ll die happy! Lol. Thanx man🤜🤛
Ive seen this movie 100 times, it doesn't get old. One of my favorite movies ever.
Helllll Yeah!!!!!
Part Kung Fu movie, part Western, with a little bit of Dungeons & Dragons sprinkled in.
It's just one of those little gems that struck us. Thank you for making this. It's an all-time fav!!!
Goodbye Mr. Burton
you must be doing something seriously wrong, Dave

There have been others, to be sure. There are always others. But you know, Mr. Burton, the difficulties between men and women. How seldom it works out? Yet we all keep trying, like fools.
As a tween when this movie came out, I've loved it ever since I saw the first trailer. Still love it, and still holds up today.
