The Nintendo Switch does not boot custom firmware out of the box when you buy one, in order to achieve the actual boot into anything other than Nintendo firmware, you have to run an exploit which requires the device to be in recovery mode and you to inject a small code into it while in recovery mode which allows the booting of non-Nintendo software. The firmware is all indeed stored on the SD, but without booting into the vulnerable recovery mode, you cannot run it as that would not be in Nintendo's best interest in any situation.
all these videos i see are running lakka for the gamecube emulation and thats linux based. im using atmosphere and retroarch for my emulation. latest one i managed to get running is the sega dreamcast for sonic adventure etc. is there a guide that shows how to get the gamecube emulator running on atmosphere? even if its not part of retroarch? im still a noob at this so idk if lakka will conflict with atmosphere since its linux based from what i have picked up.
The reason for using Lakka is because it runs it with better system privileges, meaning when you are running atmosphere and RetroArch simultaneously you will not be able to get as much power from the machine as if you were to use Lakka. Lakka is a finely baked Linux cake that only has a handful of tasks to do (mostly being just running your ROMs), while running the atmosphere version of Horizon OS uses tons of tasks and lots of GPU and other hardware specs.
Furthermore to fully answer your question, Lakka runs entirely separate from the Switch prebuilt firmware it comes with. You would run Lakka as a side OS and load through Hekate just as you would your CFW

I hacked mine after I realized I don’t play online much. Nintendo will find your console and not let you use the internet anymore for the Eshop or any bought games. However if you get tinfoil and nut server working you can update your games still. Plus even let it work as an Android tablet so you can use it for Xbox play station and stadia game streaming on the go

@@bigbato9324 Not if you have emunand and a clean sysnand to play your online/legit stuff. Although just be sure to activate incognito and 90DNS for emunand and you'll be good to go. It's not an 100% guaranteed protection from a possible ban, but it does greatly reduce the chances of it happening.

Yes, it's a payload, so take is just as you boot on another OS by injecting a payload that is on your SD Card, and when you don't inject it, the switch OS boot ^^
The way you would boot this particular OS would be the same way you boot back into custom firmware or official firmware. Once you are in Hekate from the bootloader you can boot anything from there.
@@sheluvv_instant think of it like this. You take an sdcard and put a whole other firmware on it. When you launch that firmware you're not accessing Nintendo servers. Swap out that sdcard or not and nintendo can't really tell that you installed a whole new os. Since the original switch os and lakka os don't interact with eachother.

Might I suggest ditching the rcm pin method (even tho I see you have a nice device for it) and installing auto rcm. You lose regular boot as you will always boot into rcm but if you have a device that pushes a payload why does it even matter? You can boot stock from inside hetake Also no wear on the pins

The only issue I have had was that when updating stock it throws you back into normal boot which means youd have to find another way to get into rcm mode to reinstall autorcm which can be a pain without a proper tool.

The biggest fact about it is that its a physical change in the system settings, which is generally not recommended. If you do not care about a ban or CDN restriction then by all means I would do it. The average user in my experience wouldn't be experienced enough to understand what it does to the system, hence manually putting it into RCM mode would always be the safest choice. I would never do this option for anyone. I repair switch systems locally where I live and you can't even imagine how many customers I have coming to me saying 'my switch is black screening, I bought it from a guy on OfferUp and now its broken and he wont text me back'
No you cannot with Lakka. Retroarch is a good fall back of docking is an issue, but currently does not support Gamecube (looking hopeful now though after the all stars emulation discovery)
There's no way for the Switch, but hackers are looking into it, but the only way they say is by using a mod chip which you wouldnhavr to open. Right now they're in beta testing.

There's no way for the Switch, but hackers are looking into it, but the only way they say is by using a mod chip which you wouldnhavr to open. Right now they're in beta testing.

No it does not support online
Let me be clear, this runs separate from the switch as its own flavor of linux, completely separate from Horizon OS

Right on the SD with the build, as long as its in the lakka folder
