  • Neonatal mortality due to tetanus remains a cause of preventable mortality in Uganda despite the 81% TD vaccination coverage.
It is a silent killer: WHO 2019
The efficiency of antibody transfer is low until 32-34 WOA (Chu & Englund, 2014)
Maternal antibodies are estimated to wane within a year. (Liang et al., 2018)
Uganda’s 2022 maternal Td vaccination guidelines contradict the other guidelines which recommend vaccination between 27-36WOA.
To sustain the elimination, there in a need to improve the current practices.
We aimed to determine the prevalence and factors associated with the transfer of protective levels of anti-tetanus antibodies among newborns.
