I’d be interested to know the process you used to keep the boat restrained as it exited the deep lock while you closed the gate. Did you use the stern line around the stonework?
Thank you. In that narrow channel below the lock the boat will normally just stay still as there shouldn't be any water flow. No need to tie up... just keep an eye on it.

It is, as you say, really beautiful round this stretch. Until the foot and mouth epidemic in 2000 or thereabouts, all the fields above and below Somerton Deep were unfenced, so you could wander freely down to the river and just hang out down there if you were moored above the lock. The fences were put in as one of the measures against the disease spreading and sadly were never removed after the emergency was over.
I remember it being more open around there.
Would be good if the Murgon saucers made deliveries...they seem to be everywhere. 🛸🛸👽👾
Once upon a time I considered making a whole channel about the Murgons but then RUclips changed its rules for monetisation so it wasn't worth starting.

The Canal and River Trust did not maintain the lift bridges properly and as a result the counterweighting was wrong so the bridge might not stay up on its own!
I do hope that in the refurbishment of lift-bridge they haven't changed its alignment with the western horizon, because if you stand on the hill behind it at Midsummer sunset, the bridge bed aligns perfectly with the sun as it sets. Just saying.
