- The Dark Side of Space Exploration | Space Debris Piles Up | Between the Lines with Palki Sharma
Satellites are extremely useful. They assist with global communications, GPS navigation, and even the gathering of weather information. However, they end up generating a significant amount of space junk. This space debris is dangerous due to the possibility of colliding with working satellites and even the International Space Station. So what's the solution? How do we deal with our space junk problem? Palki Sharma tells you on this episode of Between the Lines.

Did you know about the space junk problem? Comment below and tell us.
Space junk is the debris of satellites which are moving around the earth. There is no use of these debris.Scientist should think about the removal of the debris.
Thank you maa'm.
Yes!
That's a special attribute of humans... We leave trash wherever we go!
Oh, the poor Chandhra Dhev! Who can save him?😔
This is just a beginning. The Inactive Satellites Garbage will increase the hazards of collision 💥.
All the Responsible countries must think about it.
You need to do something about your sound it’s just low on every video you post . You can notice it when a advert comes on or when you go play some other video else where and it’s very irritating
good if you could set up a debate between neil degrass tyson and eric dubay on the existence of space.
Palki, I really appreciate your courage to move away from the mainstream manipulated media and doing this kind of independent reporting but on very important issues often neglected in the light of politics, selfishness and monopoly of the rest of news channels.
Kudos to you. #inspiring. I hope I wish to do so in my line of work .
I saw your videos being quoted of given reference to by many of international news media. 🎉
finally earth gets rings like saturn 😂 . rings of satellite
Except it's not on a flat plane instead all around us. 😅
The punch line ....great thing about space is there is so much space...😂
there is no outer space. there is antarctica though . off limits to everyone . unexplored.
LOL 😂😂💀
Yea
Knew that this was a growing issue for over a decade, it's nice to see media talking about it.
Palkiji 🌹, Every issue raised by You is very significant.
Obviously the space junk poses Risk.
Time to think about it... .
Palki mam there should be more journalists like you, even if they can do 10% of your effort world could be a much better place to live in 👍, love your journolism, you are a true gem of INDIA 🇮🇳🇮🇳

Must be nice staying in that echo chamber of Modi hatred, propagated by those guys I just mentioned.
🤣
@@Xinnie_The_FluI don't PPL give a damn abt Dhruv's political videos. His general videos r amazing
I had heard about space junk but only after listening to Ma'am Palki I understood its seriousness and the real hazard it poses and shall continue to pose to future space travel.
Very few people are talking on this subject. Very nice to see Palki raising this issue.
Only You covers all the news very extensivaly like Environment, Economics, Science and technology, National and International news.Thank you very much.
actually NASA already proposed this in march .... just reading a cue lol
I have watch so many journalist...but palki is just above ahead of the rest

This channel must be commended. Ive learnt a lot here
Hey Palki Mam,
Please make a detailed video about the Indian Farm Bills that were repealed later, its positives and negatives, and why it faced such a large Backlash in "Between the Lines" Saga.
And The Israeli Palestinian Conflict for Flashback series and what was India's role in this conflict.
I agreed Palki, all these junk bring all down for ♻️ ♻️
Journalist Ravi Shankar has such interest to give such news which many neglect to present in Main streem media. Kudos to Madam Palki Sharma presenting selected news to us on regular basis.
Very informative....and steps need to be taken immediately to clean space
Amazing presentation.... i m sure it takes a lot of research and hardwork...great work!
Surprisingly, no disasters yet owing to the space debris eg. International Space Station colliding with some debris.
Great job calling out the problems! Thanks!
Skillful woman. Thanks!
Perfect Information!
Thank you for the valuable information 😊😊
Debris left in orbits below 600 km normally fall back to Earth within several years. At altitudes of 800 km, the time for orbital decay is often measured in centuries. Above 1,000 km, orbital debris will normally continue circling the Earth for a thousand years or more. 8:08 [NASA]
Interesting topic coverage.
That was really insightful, thanks
Hats off
No channel covered this story earlier
I hadn't heard about space junk before this totally enjoyed and enriched,I love your speaking style ,so articulative and confident, thank you for bringing in such topics, keep them coming !
Great....❤❤❤❤❤....
Wow!
Didn't know ISRO had a cleanup initiative as well...
This is new information
Don't say "hop" until you've jumped over! bragging! let them clean at least 1000 square meters - then brag!
Like this content ❤ 👏
In general, the space debris problem is a money problem. We need internationally agreed upon rules concerning the life of satellites and their like from cradle to grave. The cost of a launch needs to include the cost of deorbiting satellites once they are obsolete or nonfunctioning. Cleanup of existing debris should be financed by the current spacefaring nations (example, an annual fee collected and managed by the UN based on the percentage of satellite in operation would be one way of doing it).
Remember that companies around the world have plans to quadruple the number of satellites in low Earth orbit over the next 10 years. And this is only the beginning.
don't worry there's no space junk
"Cleanliness is Godliness" ☮💛
Thank you Palki
Nice post
Super
Well stated palki
*Wow*
well said
I remember having an for starting a company called space spider and transporting the junk to the moon to use for further development lol

The great thing about space is there is so much "space" punch line 🙀🙀
The issues raised in this video is of global level & gigantic too!
Mankind has badly polluted our 🌍planet - the EARTH & now there's a mad race to explore moon ( & then entire universe🌌) Consequently, space is being polluted too !
It's not known as how much humein/ humanity is going to be benefited out of this research & explorations keeping in view it's 'inputs v/s outputs' ! It's truly a debatable issue 😯
Nevertheless, ' Swash Space Abhiyaan' needs to be introduced at international forum to deliberate over clearing space junk!!
keep it up , our earth is turning to saturn
Your words are strong similar to Armstrong. Your punch line, as usual.
Yes, it is past time to clean up space.
Ma'am, what a style statement of wearing Rudraksh Maala....it look so classy Ma'am.
Love you palki Sharma ❤
That's the right thing to do

You're number1
I like the way you think ❤ 💭
Amazing report👍
Researchers estimate that there are more than 100 trillion untracked pieces of space junk in Earth orbit, according to the Science study.
Monitoring this space junk is becoming more complicated as the number of errant items-and their risk of colliding-increases. 0:45 [Live Science; Quartz]
Most “space junk” is moving very fast and can reach speeds of 18,000 miles per hour, almost seven times faster than a bullet. Due to the rate of speed and volume of debris in LEO, current and future space-based services, explorations, and operations pose a safety risk to people and property in space and on Earth. 1:11[NASA]
Space waste encompasses any piece of debris left behind by humans in space and therefore originating on Earth. Space debris can be as large as an inactive satellite, similar to the size of a car, or as small as a flake of paint. The real danger is the speed at which these objects move, more than 28,000 kilometres per hour, which turns them into real projectiles. 3:33 [Iberdrola]
Most space debris is too small to be tracked, but large enough to damage spacecraft. 6:06 [The Aerospace Corporation]
Based on statistical models produced by ESA's space debris office, it is estimated that there are 36,500 objects larger than 10cm, 1 million objects between 1-10cm, and an extraordinary 130 million objects between 1mm to 1cm. [Inmarsat] 6:16

Poor human's suffering for their actions all due to lack of awareness, anyways there is a solution to it but it will be costly & will be very difficult. Other than this the core true solution is different that we can find within us if we give some space to ourselves that's other technique to bring true balance in ourselves first !
Anyways we need to be more mindful of the impact that our activities have on space & on our environment, and we need to take steps to truly protect it. Next time we send something into space or whatever we do, we need to make sure that we are doing it in a responsible way. We need to develop smart solutions to the space debris problem, and come up with a true solution to it !
Well mistake happens, next time we all need to be careful & aware of the possible consequences & be a critical thinker for the best of all !
Thankyou'☝️🙏

We poison ourselves hoping for an antidote to emerge tomorrow. We abuse the term 'hope' for the greater evil we can't fathom...

Traffic jam in space? 😮😢
FirstPost, don't you think the global government's should clean up the legacy pollution on earth where people need a healthy ecological system. Air, water, and land. Do you remember India's 7-story high dump that was/is on fire?
Like the sputnik incident that shook the USA into action .. but in a distant comparison .. China's space and moon achievement is what is driving India - but I would say is not enough a bit misguided for a variety of reason, and the boasting for the little or nothing new findings.
I have written about the topic of Space Debris and how we should deal with it for my study of International Law. International regulations like Outer Space Treaty and Moon Treaty are not sufficient to deal with this problem
Hi Sunny,
May i know where i can read about it or can you publish it on medium and share the link here?
Thanks in advance!
0:18 that's India's space agency for those who are not aware!! 😂😂😂
Its nice if there is an int'l body that handle about sattelites, to tax and regulate them including cleaning the space from junks. Make them responsible for any negative effects caused by it.
