I believe they know each other well. The label Kalandra is signed to is the same as Wardruna (By Norse), and it's actually the label started by Wardruna's singer. I can easily imagine the Norwegian traditional-inspired is a quite small and tight community.
Katrine (pronounced Katreena) Stenbekk is the singer/songwriter in Kalandra, and I would take her singing over that of her fellow Norwegian Aurora most days of the week. I like the Wardruna/Aurora original and Kalandra cover equally well. They are sufficiently different to stand comfortably next to each other. Katrine assisted Lindy-Fay Helle with backing vocals on Wardruna’s 2022 closed studio live album recording of ‘Kvitravn - First Flight of the White Raven’, which included a performance of Helvegen.
I think of the two versions as almost different songs, one with traditional instruments and the other with a modern twist. . I listen to both versions quite often and really like both for their individual styles, just depends on my mood.
@@stever7732 tell that to Simone and Flor from Epica and Nightwish. I think it could be absolutely beautiful. They’re both so talented that I think their harmonies could be quite gorgeous together.
You should check out another version of this song from The Symphonic Viking Voyage Tour Live sung by Einar Selvik (Wardruna) and Eivør Palsdottir, imo the best version of the three, but as you said you can’t really distinguish between the three, as they are all super talented musicians and each song has different qualities and feelings to them
Yea it is cool and different then other version and I like it. Although after I heard version featuring Aurora it will be hard or impossible to beat that version in my ears. My only complain to the other version would be that Aurora sing only on start and then there are constant beautiful harmonies (this ethereal add to the sound) but I would like second part of Aurora somewhere.
I agree: regarding the other version somehow it lacks a little something that makes it a bit "incomplete", at least to our ears it seems, even if it is still beautiful and powerful like that (having said that, the first time I watched it, it made me want to know if this white glowing "deluxe" backing vocalist😀, probably being this "Aurora" named in the title of the video, was doing interesting things from her side....🙂).
I was not aware of this version until now, and this is as good as the Wardruna/Aurora one, more impressive perhaps given it is the one [female] lead singer taking on both roles, a great song presented in 2 different ways, both great.
I wish I knew her words...i felt my heart being CRUSHED 🥹🥹🥹🥹😭 for me Kalandras version was BY FAR more thought and emotion provoking. Im looking them (her?) up.Directly after this reaction. Period ❤(edit: yes! Definitely the male vocalist in the first video stood out)
I totally agree with you. If I had to go with a version…it would be Kalandra. But I like the guy from Wardruna singing better than the guy from Kalandra. All in all…phenomenal music. I love it. So glad you enjoy it! I need more Kalandra myself.
Lyrics (copypasted from E Roosters comment on another reaction video): Who will sing me Into the death-sleep sling me When I walk the road to Hel And the tracks I tread Are cold, so cold I sought the songs I sent the songs When the deepest well Offered drops so mighty Of Valfather’s pledge I know it all, Odin Where you hid your eye Early or in fading day Still the raven knows if I fall When you stand by the gate of Hel And when you must tear loose Follow you I shall Across the bridge of Gjöll With my song You will be free from the bonds that bind you You are free from the bonds that bound you Cattle die, kinsmen die You yourself will also die But the word about you will never die If you win a good reputation Cattle die, kinsmen die You yourself will also die I know one thing that never dies The reputation of those who died
I would be curious to hear your thoughts on their newest song Bardaginn. It's much more upbeat, and on the engineer side they did a lot with the compression that I'd love to hear you break down a bit. Love your reactions! Keep it up!
You bet- added to the recording schedule! Thanks very much for the recent song / coffee request!! And I'm working on an answer to your audio engineering questions. Keep an eye on your email!! ✌🏽
Kalandra is the band's name, Katrine Stenbekk is the lady singing and using the vocoder. 2 different versions equally beautiful , but i prefer Wardruna and Aurora, Nevertheless , Kalandra is incredible too. Next , another norwegian by the name Susanne Sundfør... genius!
Ahhh thank you for that! I’ll make sure to get that right next time. And I totally agree with you, both versions equally beautiful! And I’m certainly open to more Norwegian music! I love hearing all this stuff from around the world!
It is great that more people take after Wardruna, we need more of our own music back, not this westernized, Americanized type music we have now. Yes, she said Odin, she is Heathen.
Katrine (lead singer of Kalandra) is now one of Wardruna’s backing vocalists too!! I was so pumped when I saw her on stage with Wardruna!
Really??? That is awesome! I love them both!
Me too! i was front row and was like, No way thats Katrine from Kalandra! 😱. haha
I'm fan of both and I didn't even know that! That's great!

So different, and yet so beautiful too, indeed. Gorgeous ending of the song.
Nice and interesting reaction.🙂👍

This is My favorite versión of helvegen !! Is beautiful!!!
Happy u liked this one also, i think they are greate both of them. Same song but compleatly different fell to them for me. Have a good weekend. 😊
This will be my funeral song.
Now we just need an Aurora + Katrine collaboration!
YES!! Totally agree!
We’ve got Katrine singing with Wardruna doing backing vocals now.. so yes.. Katrine + Aurora needs to happen!!
Katrine and Aurora are too much the same for a collaboration to work. You ideally need a greater contrast.
@@stever7732 I disagree. I think their harmonies would be epic.

Lyrics (copypasted from E Roosters comment on another reaction video):
Who will sing me
Into the death-sleep sling me
When I walk the road to Hel
And the tracks I tread
Are cold, so cold
I sought the songs
I sent the songs
When the deepest well
Offered drops so mighty
Of Valfather’s pledge
I know it all, Odin
Where you hid your eye
Early or in fading day
Still the raven knows if I fall
When you stand by the gate of Hel
And when you must tear loose
Follow you I shall
Across the bridge of Gjöll
With my song
You will be free from the bonds that bind you
You are free from the bonds that bound you
Cattle die, kinsmen die
You yourself will also die
But the word about you will never die
If you win a good reputation
Cattle die, kinsmen die
You yourself will also die
I know one thing that never dies
The reputation of those who died
Oh man,the lyrics❤ and the last verses from snorre saga just stabs you the hart if you got any viking blood in you😮
This was just beautiful 🥰
