I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (February 7, The Transfiguration of Our Lord), we sang this as our Closing Hymn. Ditto for me as I filled in at a local Lutheran Church. However, it was to the tune, SCHONSTER HERR JESU, a 19th Century Silesian folk tune. It is #838 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship.

Some simply rejoice and feel filled with the Spirit when singing praises to God. I would say I'm a mixture of both, so by reading the Word and also by singing praises to him.
Hey, that is one of my favorites! I truly feel that both Townend and the Getties have written some wonderful hymns and we occasionally sing this one at my church.

Interesting assumption. It may be that this just isn't their style of music. I am listening to it and I have to say, I'm not a fan. But I am a Christian working as a church choir director. The style just isn't my cup of tea. I can see why other people would appreciate and be inspired by this song, and that is wonderful, it just doesn't do that for me. I bet you wouldn't like one of my favourites "Toward the Unknown Region" (Text by Walt Whitman and Music by Ralph Vaughan Williams).
I can understand if this isn't everyone favourite style of music and to be honest it never used to be mine.. until I realised it wasn't about the style it was about the words. Any Christian song that's biblically sound can be used in worshiping our great God and Saviour. We don't have to technically like the style... It's not about us and being entertained it's about worshipping God. We have secular music for songs to listen to for our entertainment if we wish for that. I only say this because I think that so much of church culture these days has become about our entertainment and not on knowing God more and giving Him the worship He deserves. @pianohbc I think you're stretching the semantics a bit too far. The New Living Translation of Hebrews 12:2 calls Jesus the "Champion who initiates and perfects our faith" (most people know translations that say "Author and Finisher" or "Author and Perfecter"). The bible scholar I took NT from in college really prefers this translation of that verse. I don't think it's changing our definition of Jesus at all.

I pray to God that my words are not only lovely to you but that you BELIEVE IN THE LORD JESUS CHRIST as I have, and have not regretted one day of the Salvation He paid for with His Life to give me and all who BELIEVE IN HIM AND HIS WORKS. If you need proof that God's Words are true concerning His Magnificent Son and what He(God) sent Him (Jesus) to do for His creation (mankind), all you need do is consider the Lifegiving Words in the Bible of those who walked with Him for 3 years of Him Ministry on this earth. For, Jesus said in The Gospel of John that if people BELIEVED what He said, they would also BELIEVE the words of His Apostles, including the Apostle Paul, who saw Him after His Resurrection, and bore witness to that fact in 13 Epistles, starting with the Epistle of Romans. He(the Apostle Paul) pinned the Whole Counsel of God in that Magnificent Book. Please make time to read it sometime and get ready to be blessed beyond measure. And then if that is not enough for you to BELIEVE, David, maybe you could consider me, the worst sinner who ever lived on this earth, whose sins are so discussing, filthy, and many that I can only confess them to my loving, patient, caring, merciful God--not to man, for even now Iam too ashamed of them for that. Yet and still, I know that only ONE PERSON, JESUS CHRIST, THE ONLY TRUE AND LIVING SON OF GOD loves me so much that He took all my sins upon Himself and died on The Cross to satisfy the justice of God for me and all who BELIEVE. Now neither myself or any other person on this earth could've or would've or even had the Righteousness (for His Righteousness is infinite) that it takes with which to saved all of mankind who BELIEVES from hell and the wrath of God which will soon come upon this earth because of our disobedience towards a Holy God. But only God Himself, in a body that He prepared for His Son, JESUS CHRIST, in order that He could take His Purifying Blood to take away the sins of all who BELIEVE can save us! David, this is not a game. For God, the Almighty, does not play games about the sins that we commit every day in His Presence that are an affront to Him and His Holiness. Unfortunately, many people believe that because we can't see Him (for God is Spirit) that He doesn't exist or that He doesn't care about what we do. But Iam here to tell you that He does exist and that He rewards all who seek Him with Salvation from His Wrath and from hell(which is total separation from His Goodness and His Light into total darkness for eternity) through His Magnificent, Awesome Son, JESUS CHRIST!! Heaven's champion is not really a dubious line. The definition of a 'champion' is a 'victor in a challenge or contest'. Jesus Christ won the greatest victory ever - over sin and death and deserves praise as Heaven's champion over both these things.

@pianohbc I think you're stretching the semantics a bit too far. The New Living Translation of Hebrews 12:2 calls Jesus the "Champion who initiates and perfects our faith" (most people know translations that say "Author and Finisher" or "Author and Perfecter"). The bible scholar I took NT from in college really prefers this translation of that verse. I don't think it's changing our definition of Jesus at all.
