I have been carrying this Sheepdog knife for 10 months now. There is no play in mine in the closed position. After I got this knife I stopped looking for the next knife to try, this knife is perfection. Not almost a home run, it is a home run. Tactical EDC at its finest.
I tell you the pocket clip will stay stronger on the left side because it is steel liners on the left side and the screws won't strip easy like they do on the titanium side...
I just got my first knife... a sheepdog mini. Love it. just trying to figure out how to carry it in the same pocket as my phone... lol.. doesn't work so well.
Hmm... I've heard about some complaints about Emerson's fit and finish, in general; I only have one emerson- my CQC-7 SFS. The fit and finish on it is perfect, with no problems what so ever.
great review mate, been looking at them emerson flippers, but hopefully he have another zt collobration and come up with some great wave featured flippers there :)
Thanks for the lefty love, brother! Btw, the detent issue is common and quite annoying in this model. I've worked on three of them, and all had it. It kept me from buying it 😕
I was directed to this page this morning after the Emerson channel pinned my comment. I received my Mini Sheepdog Bowie from the shop about a week ago. It's knife #064. I'm kind of confused as to why many of you have had this model for 4 or 5 years but have higher knife numbers? My knife has no date. Any help from the membership would be appreciated. Thanks.
one thing I really don't understand is why he is stuck with one sided carry for so long. I understand from a business point of view this gives reasons to sell those leftie models, but in the long run it is quite inefficient. I'm a rightie and I want to carry my cqc7 one my left as backup, but I don't see any rational reason for me to purchase a special model with extra charge just for that.
They did away with the year stamp in 2014 so every knife made in 2015 or later will not have the year stamp. I have no idea why, but it really annoys me.
I have a horseman the decent is horrible, in fact when I look inside it, the detent hardly alines with the whole very well, so it is not really doing much detenting at all. I suspect that is what happens to your knife, except your knife is on bearings so it makes it more obvious to see the detent is bad...
+Braidy Fisher Not really grail, I'm building a Benchmade collection. I just don't think I like Emerson's anymore. I have a final Emerson collection vid coming up soon that I shot before I decided to sell.

I normally don't mind some info on the side of the blade, but this is like a freaking billboard!
nathaniel wren you can buff that out if it bothers you.
Grossman is the man. His sheepdog/sheep concept is on point
No play in mine. Thanks for the review. Love mine. My new EDC.
Excellent review. Probably the best I’ve seen in awhile. Thank you

I absolutely love my sheepdog. I want another.
I have the exact same knife carried it every day for almost 2 years with zero detent issues
TNS1089 at first I did, after about a week of using it, the lock stick just stopped
Wow much innovation, such ingenious ! lol..

Very nice! I want one.
Very cool blade. I may pick one up later on. I'm not a big fan of flippers though. But I love EKI....
Just bought one of these. The closed detent seems solid on mine. No play.
That deep indention is by design. With flipper knuckle, it’s to keep your hand from sliding forward onto the blade in a fight.
I love fixed blades. I love tactical fixed blades.

The reason for the blade movement in closed position is because it helps deploy the knife using wave
Too much text on the blade, but great to see Ernie stepping outside of his preferred tastes to accommodate his client base.
Emerson must still be waiting in the wings to see if this whole "powder metallurgy" thing is going to go away :P
+Misanthropia LOL

I saw that emerson is putting out a CQC-7 flipper in S35VN
+Nic S Finally! LOL

+TheApostleP Good to know! Thanks
+XIUXIU1313 good stuff carter! great review!! i sent mine back, the slop killed me.
This may seem like a silly question, but...can you open a bottle with the thing next to the wheel?
you can!
I leave all my pocket clips where they are. Bring them out left handed into reverse grip.
I love mine, the only annoyance is the lock stick - it's severe!
I would just assume that the closed detent hole is a bit too large or sloppily tapped and slightly off, take it apart and see how the parts meet
I just got one, and it had no detent slop.

I think they number each run so you would have 64 of the batch yours came from not the 64th ever made but the 64th in that batch
@@JesseLJohnson I see. Thanks Jesse.
must be lucky mine is perfect!😀
Nice review! I have the same model as You. Do You have experience with Benchmades Blue lube and cleanser? Cheers from Norway
I just got the Sheepdog. and i have the bull dog I like the Sheepdog more than Bulldog
nice
I don't like flippers because from my personal experience, flipper knives have a tendency to mis-deploy in the pocket. I do like that blade shape.

Nice review Carter! Are you going to pick up the Combat Systems Fighter model?
+Caffeine Junkie I don't think so. I'm done with Emerson for a while I think.
Just send the Emerson in for the detent issue. They come with a lifetime warranty. Use it. ;)

no date means its 2015. started this year
+Jimmy Kimber There were a few late 2014 models that did not have a date.
are you selling this sheepdog?

Why are you getting rid of so many of your emersons Carter?? Just want something different, or a grail sale??
+Braidy Fisher Not really grail, I'm building a Benchmade collection. I just don't think I like Emerson's anymore. I have a final Emerson collection vid coming up soon that I shot before I decided to sell.
It would be more perfect with a frame lock.
Emersons are junk, sorry lol. Holds an edge like pot metal, traded mine away. Nice designs but poor execution with a high price point.
