Got another P20 Pro in the end (notch removal capability and superior sound to the P30 series). This phone was a game changer in 2018 and no other quite matches the specs I got it for.
A timeless smartphone that, despite the passage of several years from its premiere, can still confidently compete with other mid-range phones produced today. Good job Huawei.
I had this phone for 2 years when I accidentally cracked it. I bought the P3 Pro after this, but I am now looking for a new or refurbished p20 pro again cause the camera and software are so much better in the P20. I went from iPhone to Huawei and I was blown away of the build and perfomance, it is really sad that models after P30 isn't Google supported, cause Huawei is by far the most bang for the buck!

It's even survived 3 years living on the beach I'm the humid tropics. Battery obviously slowly declining but it's pretty badass still lasts all day. I recently had my phone case break apart and my phone fell out and hit the ground pretty hard so it has its first damage. Im scared now and kind of want to be ready incase the worst happens. I want a newer version of this phone but it MUST have a physical home /fingerprint button. Not willing to compromise on that. I love everything about this phone so if any one knows which would be the best to switch to eventually... Please let me know!! Cheers.
go to mate 20 or P30 pro....I use P40 pro. but I am going to exchange my phone with P20 pro with cash. I am disappointed a phone without google. I installed google play by side loading. It RAPIDLY decrease batery life. So go for P30 pro which has google.
I'm here after I got a notification for EMUI 12 update! I'm quite impressed that huawei still update their phone even after years of released (2018?) Been using it since 2019, and it's still going strong. Loving the crisp oled screen. My only complain is the battery. Going to need a replacement sooner or later. If it wasn't for the google issues, I think huawei would be 1 of the top player for Android phone. A sad ending for them. Oh well.
ehehe i've had this phone for almost 4 years now!! still works very well, only had to do about two resets when it was getting slow. i love how customizable it is with display settings. I've dropped this phone a lot and it only has a few small scratched on the front and back. only very recently it developed a small crack on the corner of the screen that isn't even that visible at first. this phone is the best phone i have ever had, I'll keep it around even if i decide to get a newer phone :^)
FYI, I bought mine in 2018. It has been still working great 👍. I made a comparison test between my old P20 Pro and my brother's new Pixel 7 Pro for finger and face recognition. You may already know the result: 10:0 and 10:0. Amazing!
Great review! I have chosen this over the Zenfone 8 and Xiaomi 12x. For those saying the p30 pro is better consider this : the p30 is larger, does not have the dual speakers, does not have the led notification, has an under-screen fingerprint sensor (useless if your finger is moist), has a curved screen (fragile & accidental touches)
I had this phone for 3 yrs and all i can say that this phone is worth all the money. If my battery was still perfect, i would’ve used it for another year or 2

I'm using the phone since 2018. have cracks on screenglas, fingerprint/homebutton not working anymore, protector on the cams also cracked so i took them away. i'm using it like this now since 4 months. and it still works. but yeah... i need to clean now the lenses before taking a photo. not pretty. I have a P20 lite from 2018. The only thing that has changed is that the phone has gotten just a bit slow and the battery needs to be replaced with a new one. I did my homework to get this phone and now my partner needs a phone as sturdy as mine! This phone has been submerged in water several times, lost in sand, dropped at least one a day with only one minor scratch. I just needed to make sure nothing changed before I recommend it! 😂
I have just become bored with my iPhone 12 Pro and so I dug out my old Huawei p20 pro to see if a switch back to Android might work. Honestly I am stunned by the quality of the screen compared to the iPhone. I was going to buy a new Android maybe I'll just stick with this one for a while.

I actually finally gave up on my P20 Pro last week. I've had it for 4 years. The battery was already starting to act up last year, but I couldn't find something that would be an upgrade in the budget I wanted to spend on a new phone last year, so I kept it. This year, aside from the battery needing 2-3 charges / day, the fingerprint scanner died. I took that as a sign to finally upgrade... So i got an S23, marking the return to a samsung for the first time since the I9000 Galaxy S... I thoroughly enjoyed the P20 Pro. The cameras are good up to this day and if it weren't for it... getting old... I would've kept it for another year.

Also, I've had plenty of bad experiences with aftermarket batteries (including OEM batteries) behaving very poorly compared to the factory batteries. No idea why... probably to get us to change phones.

bought a battery for 15 bucks and i replaced it myself and literally like new. I already had the glue to reseal the phone from replacing other phone batteries. its been 4 years and this phone is still going strong! yeah, its getting a little old now, but having used current generation phones, it's not much of an upgrade to be honest.

Got a charger problem with my Huawei P20 Pro today. It keeps disconnecting-reconnecting while charging if Im using the original charger but seems ok if Im using other brands. My charger is also working fine with other phones.
I have a P20 pro. It used to have image stabilization and loads of great settings for video- not any more. The recent "updates" removed all those options and "dumbed the phone" down

I actually bought it! P20 Pro. Great phone, updated itself to EMUI 12 I think, has all Google services and all the usual apps work. Bought it refurbished online from Back Market which also seems to be a great store

Hi, it depends in which region youre in, but i think that you will get the update to MIUI 12. Just wait some time. I use the P20 pro, and got the update one month later for it, than it got availeble in my country.
@@mario17-t34 If you bought your phone whit an phone plan, from vodafone, ore some other one, the update is delayed, in most of the time. But you get it, just later.
It will receive emui 12 for sure. Beta testing are out now however it seems like there are heating issues with the new update. It is expected because it's still in beta.

@@alaasu6485 Is your phone running some special firmware (vodafone etc)? Some phones bought from mobile network providers use different firmware and they should release updates instead od huawei. If they don't care then you are stuck with old firmware. I buy my phones unlocked from usual electro sellers and not network providers. Maybe you are stuck because of your region? Maybe try changing region in options to say UK?

Smartphones performance is like not laptops & desktops. Very limited used performance capacities. Just a small PDA Computer

@@mario17-t34 If you bought your phone whit an phone plan, from vodafone, ore some other one, the update is delayed, in most of the time. But you get it, just later.

Yes, there might not be. Unfortunately.
It will receive emui 12 for sure. Beta testing are out now however it seems like there are heating issues with the new update. It is expected because it's still in beta.

@@alaasu6485 Is your phone running some special firmware (vodafone etc)? Some phones bought from mobile network providers use different firmware and they should release updates instead od huawei. If they don't care then you are stuck with old firmware. I buy my phones unlocked from usual electro sellers and not network providers.
Maybe you are stuck because of your region? Maybe try changing region in options to say UK?
