Man, you and Antonio (Pointy Hat) have the best presentation style from anyone presenting D&D and TTRPG content. It is such a joy to listen to your advices. Thank you, and please keep on! 🙏

For missing players I've tried it all: playing at the table (where the gm keeps all player sheets between sessions) and I've hand the sheet to another player; playing VTT I've tried controlling them myself, and when playing with a group (that brings sheets home with them) noone can play em cus we don't have stats. And I personally think the "fade into the back" is the best option. It might require a bit of combat rebalance to compensate (a monster runs away at the start of the fight, etc), but you can still give the absent character tasks, it actually HELPS the group because a mundane fetch or messenger task can be handled without the rest of the group wasting time on that kinda stuff.

Those cruel schedule-gremlins are the worst.
