Beautiful set up my friend. I can appreciate a proper set up and one who looks for comfort, practicality, function and appearance in the gear we choose. Great video and thanks for the tips.
One of my older rods has a colored foam covering above & below the reel seat. I'm guessing it's glued on? I take it trying to get that off isn't going to be easy, right?
Great video. I also have the Avet MXL MC Generation 2, and agree it is a top pier or boat reel. Moreover, it is a good surf caster too. I can cast a 6 to 8 oz sinker and bait just over 100 yards on the beach, which is sufficient for most situations. Although I can cast my excellent Penn Squall 15 and Akios reels about 10-20 yards further, neither holds nearly as much line as the Avet MXL (I like having 550 yards of 50 lb braid when targeting sharks and big drum versus 300-350), or matches the Avet's build and materials quality.
When I cut heat wrap on the builds I do, I use a roofing knife it has a curve in the blade and it's used to cut the black paper roofers use. It's worked for me and makes straight cuts and I don't take that chance of cutting my self with a razor blade
The cork on my jigstick is old and cracked. I measure the rod and it's 1 and 1/8inches when I hold a ruler against the rod itself. Do you think 400 mm would work OK?
1 1/8in is 28.5mm so a 40mm heat shrink grip should work but you can always call the guys at Mudhole in Oviedo FL and ask them. They will know more about the perfect size than me!😂
How do you determine what width of shrink wrap to order? I need to do a repair to a rod that has foam handles that are one inch in diameter. Would I use 25mm or 30mm?
1in is 25mm so 35mm should get the job done but if you want to be certain I would call Mudhole in Oviedo FL and they can guide you in the right direction!👍
Thanks for the video. I'm trying to add padding to the cork foregrip of a Shimano Terez rod because I occasionally have to battle sharks from my kayak. Does the heat shrink grip provide more padding than the Winn Grip that I've tried and found insufficient?
Honestly the heat shrink grip doesn’t provided that much padding if any compared to the Winn Grip. I like the shrink grip better though because it’s more durable and a lot stronger in my opinion!👍
Allen Taylor: Unplugged not sure what the size was men! I took it to Mudhole and they just gave me the size I needed and I forgot to ask them! If you want to make sure you get the correct size but a Plastic Digital Caliper! They sell them on amazon cheap!👍
Heathbar 67 naw I’m not lol but use rapala xraps the ghost color in the morning on the north side in the surf before you pass the gate on the pier! A lot of snook are hanging out there!🤙
lyndrie clemente honestly man I’m not sure. I just went to mud hole and they measured it and gave me the size but I forgot to ask what size it was sorry!

Yes, most likely it is glued. Have you tried cutting it with a razor blade and peeling it off?
Will a hair dryer work?
No it won’t get hot enough unfortunately.

Yea seriously they are great reels and actually just added an MXL 5.8 MC star drag to the arsenal and love it!👍

I’d say go 35mm just to be safe man it’ll shrink to size anyways

I assume that this can be used over the existing Hypalon grip ?
Yes!👍

My rod handle diameter 25mm roughly should I buy the 25mm or 28mm grip
To be honest I’m not entire sure. I would give Mudhole which is the place I bought it from a call and they will help you out with any questions.👍
U think that would be good on a base ball bat ???
Never thought about that but I’m sure it wouldn’t hurt.
What rod is that?
what size is your heat shrink tube?
To be honest I’m not entirely sure. I went to a place called Mudhole were they sell it and they just handed me the one that fits!👍
How is the feel of the material after instalation?
It feels the best man! You have so much grip even when your hands are wet!👍

Nice video! I couldn’t find the ugly stik anywhere on the internet
JR Outdoors yea man I don’t think they make this rod anymore which is disappointing lol
Will it last without coming off??
Yea man once it’s on there it won’t come off! The only way it will come off is if you take a knife and cut it!👍
