World Model Expo 2022 in Veldhoven

- Mit zwei Jahren Verzögerung konnte im Juli 2022 endlich die World Model Expo in Veldhoven, in der Nähe von Eindhoven in den Niederlanden, stattfinden! Dieses Modellbau-Fest wollte ich mir natürlich nicht entgehen lassen, auch wenn die Anreise recht weit war.
Was soll ich sagen, der weite Weg hat sich definitiv gelohnt, selbst für einen einfachen Besucher wie mich! Die Veranstaltung hat definitiv die Bezeichnung "World Model Expo" verdient, was man dort sah hatte unstrittig Weltniveau.
Anders als man es vielleicht sonst gewohnt ist lag das Augenmerk klar auf dem hochkarätigen Wettbewerb, der mit fast 6000 (!) Beiträgen bis zum Bersten gefüllt war. Hier gaben sich in vielen Kategorien die Meister ihres Fachs die Ehre und als Besucher kam man aus dem Staunen nicht mehr heraus. Auffällig stark vertreten war hier vor allem der Dioramen- und Figurenbereich, Flugzeuge, Schiffe und Automodelle gab es dagegen viel weniger zu sehen.
Auch der große Verkaufsbereich hatte es in sich, hier war alles geboten, was das Modellbauerherz begehrt. Es waren auch einige bekannte Marken und Hersteller vor Ort, was zu einem direkten Austausch mit den Entscheidungsträgern dieser Unternehmen einlud und für mich sehr interessant war.
Ausdrücklich bedanken möchte ich mich bei allen Zuschauern und Fans, die mich dort angesprochen haben. Es ist immer eine Freude euch zu treffen!
Die Photos der Modelle in diesem Video stammen zum Großteil aus dem Wettbewerb und zeigen maximal 10% der dort ausgestellten Werke. Es war schlichtweg unmöglich alles zu dokumentieren, ich habe mich daher auf einige Modelle beschränkt, die mir aus diversen Gründen ins Auge gestochen sind.

With a delay of two years the World Model Expo could finally take place in July 2022 in Veldhoven, nearby Eindhoven in the Netherlands! I simply had to be at this scale modelling festival, even though the travel there was far.
What can i say, the far journey there absolutely payed off, even for a simple visitor like myself! The show definately deserved the name "World Model Expo", what i saw there was nothing less than the world´s finest scale models.
In contrast to other shows one might be used to the emphasis was clearly on the high level competition, which was filled with the incredible amount of almost 6000 (!) entries. The grand masters of this profession took part in it and the audience was amazed by their works. It was striking to see that many dioramas and figures in particular, aircraft, ships and car models were actually few in numbers.
The big vendor area was also something to behold, one could find pretty much everything there. There were also a couple of well known brands and manufacturers present, which was a good opportunity to talk to the decision makers of those companies, i found this very interesting.
I would like to thank all my viewers and fans, who walked up to me and revealed themselves. It is always a great pleasure to meet you guys!
The photos of the models in this video mostly came from the competition area and show maybe 10% of the work on display. It was simply not possible to document it all, so i decided to focus on a few models, which caught my eyes for various reasons.

I couldn't agree more with the comments below. Superb modelling and so much variety! I would also like to say a big thank you to you personally for the way you have presented the models on this video. Your style is so much nicer than a wobbly video with people walking in the way.
Thank you very much for your appreciation Phil! I actually have a hard time to figure out which video style is better, but i think that taking and using photos to document model shows have advantages. It takes a bit more time though, so i guess thats why recording a walkaround video is the preferred method by some people.

Mir fehlen die Worte. Da kommt ja buchstäblich ein absoluter Knaller von Weltrang nach dem anderen. Schwer da einen einzelnen Favoriten zu wählen und noch schwerer diese Show ansatzweise zu toppen. Vielen vielen Dank, Michael für die Bilder!

Difficult to find so many works of the teacher category, in a single event.Fantastic !!!
It was kinda mind boggling :)
I visit the World Model Expo in Veldhoven (hotel and conference centre ''Koningshof'') almost every year. And why not, I live in Eindhoven. It's situated about 15 km from where I live. This year I missed the event. Usually it's in autumn but because of this nasty ''C'' virus mess the expo was scheduled at an irregular time. I KNEW it got moved to another date but still I forgot about it. To be honest I go through the entire competition in maybe less than 30 minutes. The actual reason I visit Koningshof is the model fair in the same building. I often buy cheap plastic model kits here, or model paints, or other interesting modelling stuff. The fair can get very crowded.
The competition displays models of outstanding quality. I will never have enough time or money to complete a model looking as good as these. I've built some of these models myself but I'm simply not good enough - or maybe I'm too lazy. This video gives a good representation of what I missed I think.
By the way I never go abroad for these competition expos/model fairs. I don't have a car, public transport is slower and even though Belgium and Germany are basically just around the corner for me, the main reason I visit these kind of events are the model fairs. There are a couple of others in the Netherlands (not in 2021 and in 2020) and everything further away costs me more money than the money I save by buying cheaper model kits. I'm sorry but that's the way it is for me.
Cheers Marc, even though you could not go there you still get to see a few impressions in this video. The deals in the vendor area were very good indeed! Found a few bargains there, getting there was expensive for me but i saved some money on the kits i bought there, so it was all okay.

Das Niveau ist echt unglaublich gut! Da sind echt viele extrem dynamische und trotzdem fotorealistische Werke dabei!

Das war wahrscheinlich die beste Veranstaltung was das modellbauerische Level angeht, keine Frage.
Ausgestellt habe ich dort nicht, dafür reicht es nicht, wäre ja peinlich geworden neben all den Meisterwerken :)
Vor genau 16 Minuten und 55 Sekunden war ich noch recht zufrieden mit meinen Modellbaukünsten - nun hast du mein recht fragiles Selbstvertrauen zerstört - wieder einmal! Zum Glück bin ich nicht nachtragend und in einer Stunde ist meine Welt wieder in Ordnung 😁😁😁Lieber Michael, danke für das tolle Video mit beeindruckenden Werken, die mir wieder einmal viele neue Ideen geliefert haben! Man kann es aber auch als Anreiz und Inspirationsquelle sehen :) An das Level kommt man wohl nie heran, aber was für eine Augenweide so etwas mal mit den eigenen Augen sehen zu dürfen! Ich war echt baff.

Beides würde ich sagen, der Übergang ist ja durchaus fließend ab einem gewissen Punkt. Aussteller im eigentlichen Sinn gab es ja nicht, das waren Teilnehmer im Wettbewerb. Da kann jeder hingehen mit seinem Modell und es einreichen, auch ein Besucher sozusagen.

Concerning the inspiration, I'm amazed at the level of imagination the modelers can have...!
My Father built 1/72, and 1/48 planes from both WW1, WW2. He won many 1st, and 2nd. Place at model shows. Also had some of his planes showcased in Hobbie magazines. He built models for 60 years. When he pasted away. He had over 200 models still in the box.
This is not only a hobby, it is an art form and a passion. Not everyone realizes this unfortunately, but it can be taken to a very high level.

All of the models were great, but my favorite was the seaplane and sub.
That one was incredible indeed! However, my favourites were the Millenium Falcon diorama and the diorama in the thumbnail of this video.
This is definitly some great works of art. The passenger plane crash kind of made my heart skip a little. Never seen anything like that befor.
It may seem like a simple hobby, but i think it can indeed seen as a complex art form. Everything is possible and people are very creative :)

Danke für die tollen Fotos, aber ist mein Eindruck, dass im Figurenbereich nicht derselbe superbe Level zu sehen war wie im Dioramen und Modellbau, richtig? Für mich das geilste war das DIO mit dem U-Boot und der Arado, einfach Wahnsinn!

Dazu lässt sich folgendes sagen: Der Fokus der Veranstaltung liegt schon zu einem guten Teil auf dem Figurenbereich, aber natürlich ist es so, dass eine einzelne Figur, auch wenn sie auf Weltniveau bemalt ist, nicht ganz so beeindruckend ist wie ein Diorama auf Weltniveau. Außerdem haben sich gerade vor den Figuren derartige Menschentrauben gebildet, dass ich manchmal Schwierigkeiten hatte mich nach vorne zu kämpfen und ein Photo davon zu machen. Daher sind die Figuren in diesem Video etwas unterrepräsentiert. Kurzum: Der Eindruck täuscht, der Figurenbereich war wahrscheinlich sogar noch höherwertiger als die anderen Kategorien.

Es gab dort ja so allerlei ungewöhnliche Modelle, dieser Kran-T-70 ist doch auch ganz nett?! Ich wüsste nicht, ob es sowas gab, aber in jedem Fall ist es ein originelles Modell.

Es fällt vielleicht schwer das zu glauben, aber es gab tatsächlich dort zu 85% Panzer und Figuren zu sehen, dann noch 10% Flugzeuge und der Rest waren Autos, Schiffe und so weiter. Wenn es nicht da ist, kann ich es nicht photographieren :)

That is strange indeed! I think it has a lot to do with the lack of figures about this subject and there were not many vehicles involved. The aircraft modellers get more out of the Falkland War i would think?
It's not a very popular war like World War 2. No massive amounts of troop movements, of armor and aircraft etc. No interesting buildings just lots of green and rocks.

Je ne sais pas, à mon goût, de nombreux modèles ont en fait beaucoup trop vieilli. Mais tout le monde n'a pas les mêmes goûts, pour certains c'est trop peu, pour d'autres trop, pour quelques-uns c'est même parfois juste :)

Cheers mate! The World Model Expo was taking place in the Netherlands, i heard that the next one might be in Paris. This show travels around the globe and is hosted every three years usually.
