The dialogue between Lizzie and Powell is one of the highlights of the show. I love the clash of personalities. :)
After Coleen Powell's intital bad ass act by replacing Vera's shoes had passed and she secured the deputy governorship, she mellowed out alot. She really just wanted the promotion in order to support her family. She became a very decent, firm but fair officer. She really does have a soft heart towards Lizzie, her sarcasm is just her way of covering up her softness. Colleen probably had the most hilarious one-liners when dealing with Lizzie .
Sheila Florence was such an outstanding actress, SO entertaining. What ever storyline she was involved in she was absolutely brilliant, I have always loved this one where Lizzie gets a day release to meet her old friend.
Sheila was put on this Earth to spread love and laughter, I'm sure of it. Even whdn she was brandishing a shot gun in Mad Max she was still heartwarming. I took carnations to her grave about a decade ago and sat on it and had a smoke. I never met the woman but you didn't need to to feel you knew her, she gave so much of herself in every role she played. If you haven't already I'd suggest you google image search an image of her as a teenage girl, she was beautiful and vivacious looking with smiling eyes. She's my favorite Aussie actor of all time.

@@jenniferjohnson6082 Elspeth (Meg Morris) once said in an interview that she often found it hard to keep a straight face during filming, so I believe her reaction here was genuine.
Lizzie's day release storyline is ludicrous, yet still fun thanks to Sheila, Elspeth and Judith.
While watching Lizzie in that nice house, dressed-up nice and with Jeeves, it gave me an idea of a Lizzie spin-off: where she's left a lot of money from a deceased relative, leaves Wentworth and lives among the toffee-nosed crowd. In & amongst them....but very much still retaining her salt and brashness. It would've been a riot.

I'd have loved to have seen the character in her own series. Yours is a good one. She could have played both sides, posh for the toffs and herself on the sly. The contrast would have made some great lines and stories.

I couldn't stop laughing the whole time with Lizzie on the outside it was hilarious, it just goes to show what a brilliant actress the legendary Sheila Florence was.
I come back to this episode every so often, especially if I've had a bad day as the Lizzie bits are comedy gold. I think everyone involved had a whale of a time recording it, too. Lizzie is a force of nature. The only other actress I could envisage playing that role is Irene Handl who had much the same approach to comedy as Sheila Florence did. Both vastly experienced artists.
Bea is obviously slipping to get caught out by the Freak laying into Sonia minutes and barely a few meters from leaving the Freak's presence.
A year ago she would have waited and got Stevens alone when the time was right.
Very funny...Colleen as Lizzie's daughter - I nearly fell off my chair.
Lizzie's storyline was a much needed comic relief. I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard at a Prisoner episode.
It was definitely needed what with Bea leaving and hazels sad story line seeing lizzie act like the lady of the manor and also adopt Colleen Powell was so funny and needed
The storyline with Hazel is gut wrenching. I cant recall exactly what she was first in for, but I think it was a relatively minor crime (not condoning that). Things escalated pretty badly for her with her husband disowning her, losing custody of her kids, becoming an alcoholic and now this terminal disease. She states she has no family and thats a sad and lonely end for someone who at heart was a reasonable person, she just had some bad luck. Tremendous acting from Belinda Davey and another top drawer storyline from the writers.
On a more upbeat note, I really like the way Colleen Powell`s Character evolved through the show. At first she was a power hungry, often cruel bitch but since the freak arrived she totally changed. Firm but fair and this storyline with Lizzie shows she has a sense of humour and is basically a good sort. More excellent acting from Judith McGrath (r.i.p). Im not sure how she keeps a straight face in all the scenes, you can definitely see the odd crack at the corner of her mouth from time to time.
Lizzie is one of the best characters on this show.
I think Laine was a good character and should have been it until the end

I love Lizzie's day out! That was "comedy gold". It helped ease the tension and sadness with Hazel's scenes.
I am surprised I never noticed the uncanny resemblance between Colleen and Lizzie before- it's just so remarkable!!! Pffft! XD

One of the funniest episodes ever. The scenes with Lizzie were the best, especially Colleen's face when she heard she was Birdsworth's daughter, 23:50. Then we're hit with a brick with poor Hazel in the last scene. Tears
This has to be THE best episode for laughs……..ever 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I was chuckling away at the scenes with Lizzie, Meg and Colleen, they were just so funny and a delight to watch 🥰🥰🥰 Thank you Sheila for such a wonderful character 💐🥰❤️ xxx

Once again Wally acted weak-kneed in Judy's hour of need. For her own sake he should have stood firm and convinced Judy that Hazel has no place at the house any longer. Now she is forced to make an incredibly difficult decision over whether or not to watch Hazel die in excruciating pain or finish her off and take the consequences which would come with that. Phyllis can act the heavy against defenseless people like Pixie and Lizzie all she wants, but she doesn't have me fooled for one second. She is still as gutless as she always was.....
People can care for family members or friends while they're dying. My grandmother did it twice and we also came around to help yet we aren't "certified" hospital nurses or doctors. I commend Judy for keeping Hazel's wishes and sticking by her. Mum Brooks did exactly what Judy is going to do with Hazel. It was their choice.
@@laurenbrooks3091 I don't think anyone has a right to ask someone else to take their life. To be perfectly honest, I don't believe people who are dying and in pain should have to suffer, however, the law says otherwise.

@@karennicholls2296 nobody wud ask that question unless they were desperate and no one can understand how that feels unless they are in that position the fact that people who are dying and in the worse pain imaginable have to ask friends/family to assist in there death is absolutely disgusting we don't let animals suffer like this and no one can argue that Hazel is suffering beyond discription its so sad that the law hasn't changed and not only do friends and family have to deal with helping there loved one die they then have to worry about the consequences its a sad situation all round

This is a rather hard episode to deal with: on the one hand you have a great comedy sketch going on with Lizzy Colleen and Meg funniest thing I've seen so far ; that juxtaposed -with the horrible dying of Hazel.
I have never laughed so much until I heard Old Foxy say that Powell is the spitting image of Lizzy! (Mum & Daughter lmao) 😂😂😂

Colleen and Lizzie deserved a spin off series all of their own. So funny the way they communicate, you can tell they got on well in real life.
On _Talking Prisoner_ , Anna Hruby, who played Paddy, revealed that in the Green Room, Elspeth Ballantyne Meg), Judith McGrath (Colleen), and Sheila Florance (Lizzie) always used to sit together in a corner, chain smoking, and laughing their heads off - so much so, the rest of the actors nicknamed them "The Coven" (as in witches coven) 😂😂 I can just see them now, cackling away!
Story lines like this always make me wonder how many innocent people are in our jails, I bet a bloody lot..

25:14 - Funny thing is - Sheila Florence used to talk like that in public and in interviews etc. I remember her receiving a television award for her work on Prisoner and she came out speaking with a huge plum in her mouth. It's as if she was trying to distance herself from her character, but it always sounded so put on.
It does sound put on but I listened to an hour long interview and she never slipped up she kept up the plum talk the whole time
The way Lizzie sounded must definitely have been how Sheila once sounded too, regardless of how long she had possessed her new accent and how well she could maintain it when talking to the public, her friends and her family. 😃
If you have seen some of the Prisoner reunion things on youtube, Mouse was one the most amazingly well spoken people you would ever find. She wasn't on Prisoner. That would be why they call it ACTING.

I don't care for Sonia. She has no personality. There were much better villains earlier on. Kay White and Kate Peterson were both loony but dramatic. Nola was evil but had wonderful lines, she made me laugh when she called Lizzie names like Birdbrain, Birdbath and Wrinkles. Sonia is just dull and almost emotionless. A boring character.

From years of work in hospitals, I must say that Hazel's type of pain is usually accompanied by tears & screaming. It is also assuaged w increasingly high doses of morphine.

I don't think that they had the morphine & fentanyl patches back then. But they could of put in a pump. Where the put in a line 💉 & the nurse comes out to top it up with pain killers.
But she gets 24/7 pain relief.
Now a days - so many things have changed since this show was filmed. It's amazing how much things have changed.
Due to a bone disease - which is actually eating away at my bones. Doctors have put me on Morphine tablets, fentanyl patches & got to take a Liquid morphine for pain relief.
Now a days you can get - lollipops with painkillers, patches, Sprays & a special pump. It's amazing how far medication has come such a long way.
Hazel needs to be at a Hospice. Where she can get the right help & care - also where she can get better pain relief.
She needs a pillow over her face tbf

Lol @ Meg's horrified face when Foxy mentions the "racehorse" Hahaha! They then get conveniently interrupted by the waiter bringing their drinks which the bill for the drinks also horrifies Meg!
Poor Hazel it's sad and terrifying to watch her scenes but the way she flips her head about when she's expressing herself (giggles a little). The actor played her part well.
Lizzy trying to pocket that tiny ornament was obviously meant to be a humourous scene but in reality that would be despicable considering the owner of the house helped Lizzy out in a tough situation.
I think Lizzy should forget all the posh noncence and just be herself . If people can't exept the real you then they are just not worth knowing

Yeah Nola was bad for killing people, but the freak never killed anyone, until Reb Kean came into the 400s when her boyfriend had the freaks dad as a hostage.

Irene Henderson was the annoying woman from the PASAV group who got locked in during the recent lasser fever epidemic.. But she changed her attitude and helped out later on and even offered to set up the Doctor with an expensive practice.
