I rode CONNIE VF-211 x2 cruises 1980-83, ( 110 days @ sea), 1986-89 VF-21 (2 x's, plus 1988 FIRE 1 MAIN got a NCM/ NAM from CAG14/CV-64) 4 CRUISES as a ROOFRAT ( AMH Final Checker). I LOVED MY SHIP! GOT THE HYD SHOP AIMD DOOR SIGN, AVIONICS SHOP, MESS DESK DOOR SIGN from Ship Breakers plus $80 piece of the Flight Deck!!!
We were in port when they removed the asbestos. Sleeping on the O3 level aft, sucked. I still remember our space. 01-21- 01L. I got out in 1989. Somethings just get embedded in your mimd.
I was v-1 tractor driver wespac "85" good times in port, long long hours and very little sleep in the I.O. no mercy for blue dogs. Turn and burn baby turn and burn.
I was v-2 div (waist cats) 84-87. I loved hookin up the Tommys and Hornets. Hated hookin Skyhawks, was glad when they were replaced. How were you able to film on the flight deck? Back in my day neither my div (or the air boss for that matter) would have tolerated that.
V-1 berthing in 84 was forward more? almost cried when you stepped over those up and down steps ,DAM! Thanks!! Fly 3 blue , box dinner. A school then Indy to V-3 just wasnt the same.... WEST is the BEST COAST!
I did Westpac 97’ in that berthing. We had LPO “Whippo” and dick Sr. Chief Stoeker leading the pack. V-1 is a shitty work center if you come in as a booter but a little more exciting than going to V-3.
When you’re going down the port side you walk through OPS/OZ spaces. I used to strip and wax those very passageways, shine the kneelnockers. I think I even did maintenance one time on a fire station there. Approx frame 120
Finally a video without music! Thank you! Thank you for your service!
Glad you liked it! A lot of berthing stuff in here too if you skim through it
