- Post-mortem photography allowed people to have an image of their deceased family members and they used them to remember and mourn loved ones.
Post-mortem photography was particularly popular in Victorian Britain. From 1860 to 1910, these post-mortem portraits were much like American portraits in style, focusing on the deceased either displayed as asleep or with the family; often these images were placed in family albums.

I’ve been to four funerals of a baby. My dearest friend lost two infants, a few years apart. Another friend had a born too soon baby. And our own premature baby that lived 45 minutes. I wish I had a picture of our Michael.

It truly is amazing how far funeral photography has come. I don't think I'll ever understand why these little angels were taken so soon. Be at peace little ones. 🕊️❤️🙏

They were taken so soon, because life then was difficult. No antibiotics, practically no health care to speak of & very lityle understand how the body worked as well as sterilization & discinfection.
Nice job finding so many of them, the majority I have not seen before. How sad to see so many multiples and the conjoined twins. 😢

Most of them just look like they are sleeping. It is heartbreaking to see these little ones. But happy to no the little innocent children are in heaven.

Overall, good. However, some, such as the one at 22:03, should never have been posted. Saw way too many duplicates - go for quality vice quantity. Saw many pics previously seen in Dr. Burns' books. Observations - in many cases, even today, the post-mortem picture is the only picture of a newborn/stillborn. Way back when, not uncommon to lose some or all of multiple births soon after birth or born stillborn. Also not uncommon to see mothers die in childbirth. Things are much better now.

@ I think what I need to do is clear my folders… I have so many pictures saved, going back so far that I’m sure I have duplicate and triplicates saved over time…
