After 2 albums as great as 'Sea Sew' and 'Passenger' it no longer makes sense to refer to Damien Rice every 2 comments. She has become an artist of her own. Plus she is great.
Knunnie K. I’m sorry. I have a little bit of an idea of how that feels. I usually shift the song down or up an octave or two when I’m just singing it to myself to feel more comfortable
At the beginning of their break up I said something to the effect that they belonged together. I still love Damien Rice, but I see now Lisa Hannigan shines without being in Damien's shadow. What a muse!
This is taken from an interview: "The pair recorded two successful albums and toured the world together to some acclaim." "I suppose it was coming for a long time," she says of the break-up with Rice. "I had become pretty outspoken about my frustrations at the direction the band was going in, and I'm sure he was starting to find me a pain." The ending, when it came, was still a shock. Backstage in Munich before a gig, Rice bluntly informed Hannigan that they would no longer be working together.
Lisa is one of those artists that can make me smile with almost every new song i hear from her, basically put a smile on my face throughout all the duration of the song, and this it seems extends to covers to. I love the song and the cover is great.
I got a shock when she started singing. Been listening to her for a while. I know she's amazing. So moving and carries the emotions in her songs. But the vocal range. Lisa, you got me there!
I love the simplicity of this song! When I hear it, I imagine the band was hanging out one day and the guitarist came up with a simple riff, then the drummer added his thing to it, and finally Lisa jumped in with her ukulele and started to share a story. Beautiful!
This song, and, separately, Lisa Hannigan, have been two of the top things I've listened to lately... and now she does a cover of it. She makes my life better.
you are right man, her voice is very different from the voice I used to know. if u hear some old songs like volcano/9crimes/rootless tree with damien and others like an ocean and a rock/i dont know u can easily recognize that a lot has changed. if it's for better or for worse, you tell me.
And here I thought I couldn't possibly love this woman much more than what I already do. Wrong. Such an amazing version of this great song. She's a TRUE musician w/ such amazing range.
That's Gavin Glass on guitar, I've seen him live three times, he's absolutely virtuoso on the guitar, so I don't know what you guys are seeing here, but if he IS off then it's very unusual for him.
Well, he makes a mistake on the beginning and in the ending, and I feel actually relieved to see a peofessional make a mistake. By no means that makes me think less of the guy playing, he can be a virtuoso and still make a mistake eventually, real beats “perfect”. And no one gig defines a musician.
stayed up late last nite~woke up late~crazy traffic~tons of work to do~open gmail "lisahannigan just uploaded a video" .....smile ~ made my day...thanks Lisa!!!!!
@myaniqued I think it was Lisa who cut Damien off and changed her number. He talked about it in an interview too. It's ironical that she's the one who's singing it.
Now and then I think of when we were together Like when you said you felt so happy you could die Told myself that you were right for me But felt so lonely in your company But that was love and it's an ache I still remember You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness Like resignation to the end, always the end So when we found that we could not make sense Well, you said that we would still be friends But I'll admit that I was glad it was over But you didn't have to cut me off Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing And I don't even need your love But you treat me like a stranger and that feels so rough No, you didn't have to stoop so low Have your friends collect your records And then change your number I guess that I don't need that though Now you're just somebody that I used to know Now you're just somebody that I used to know Now you're just somebody that I used to know Now and then, I think of all the times you screwed me over But had me believing it was always something that I'd done But I don't wanna live that way Reading into every word you say You said that you could let it go And I wouldn't catch, you hung up on Somebody that you used to know But you didn't have to cut me off Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing And I don't even need your love But you treat me like a stranger and that feels so rough And you didn't have to stoop so low Have your friends collect your records And then change your number I guess that I don't need that though Now you're just somebody that I used to know Somebody (I used to know) Somebody (Now you're just somebody that I used to know) Somebody (I used to know) Somebody (Now you're just somebody that I used to know) Somebody
@G58 You know that this is a cover of a song by Gotye? Lisa didn't write it, nor has she recorded beyond this particular version it as far as i know. So not autobiographical from her point of view.
I knew the words before, but now I know the meaning.
Exactly.
Utkarsh
That’s so true!
I liked the song before but now I like it and I get it!
After 2 albums as great as 'Sea Sew' and 'Passenger' it no longer makes sense to refer to Damien Rice every 2 comments. She has become an artist of her own. Plus she is great.
Yeah I know, her music is so different to Damien's as well. She's awesome.
I'd have no idea of who Damien Rice was if it weren't for Lisa Hannigan, so there's _that_.
Oh, I'm the other way round. Only know of Lisa through Damien!
Alejandro Castellanos He sure is! :)
Exactly. People should get over the whole Lisa/Damien thing already. Geez. Move on. They have.
I'm so glad I see so many other fans. LISA HANNIGAN FANS UNITE!
Aye aye captain
she is brilliant. Her music is from her soul
A rich tone here, a wonderful version of this popular song Lisa. I really enjoyed this rendition. Thumbs up!
well put!
LOOOOOOW VOICE
she makes me feel good about my lower singing range
That One Ardi I feel bad. I have a higher voice and I’d really love to sing her songs.
Knunnie K. I’m sorry. I have a little bit of an idea of how that feels. I usually shift the song down or up an octave or two when I’m just singing it to myself to feel more comfortable
That One Ardi Might do just that.
im a boy with a deep voice, i have to use my high voice to sing this 😂
Where's the secret double thumbs up button?
Words do not describe how much I love this. Saw Lisa live a couple of years ago, was one of the best gig's I've been to.
At the beginning of their break up I said something to the effect that they belonged together. I still love Damien Rice, but I see now Lisa Hannigan shines without being in Damien's shadow. What a muse!
Love love love.
Two of my most favorite things in the world.
Amsterdam, and Lisa Hannigan.
This is taken from an interview: "The pair recorded two successful albums and toured the world together to some acclaim."

So versatile, she is amazing. I cannot stop raving about her... Love her!
Lisa is one of those artists that can make me smile with almost every new song i hear from her, basically put a smile on my face throughout all the duration of the song, and this it seems extends to covers to. I love the song and the cover is great.
I love it! Such a great voice
Wow Lisa.. I am obsessed with this song. I keep coming back to listen! You are amazing!
Enchanting! Best voice I've heard for a long long time! Love it!!!

sweet naive boy,
It's a cover, most radios ask singers to play one of theirs and a cover from the top of the charts, that is the only song she knew.
@@CarolinaSantacruzO lol, it's not the only song she knows ... 'sour'ful naive boy...
@@CarolinaSantacruzO You mean the only song she liked that was kinda top 10 back then

Lisa is my all time fav
one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite female performers!! HELL YEAH!!
Finally, someone who covers this song and doesn't rush the tempo. Slower is better with this ditty.
Jesus. She is fucking stunning.
Pure class, looking forward to seeing her here in Galway, Ireland in July.
And here I thought I couldn't possibly love this woman much more than what I already do. Wrong. Such an amazing version of this great song. She's a TRUE musician w/ such amazing range.

Love love Lisa h. ❤️
Beautiful music and Dutch ads. What else can I ask for?
Now i'm addicted to this version
great !
Now and then I think of when we were together
Like when you said you felt so happy you could die
Told myself that you were right for me
But felt so lonely in your company
But that was love and it's an ache I still remember
You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness
Like resignation to the end, always the end
So when we found that we could not make sense
Well, you said that we would still be friends
But I'll admit that I was glad it was over
But you didn't have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing
And I don't even need your love
But you treat me like a stranger and that feels so rough
No, you didn't have to stoop so low
Have your friends collect your records
And then change your number
I guess that I don't need that though
Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Now and then, I think of all the times you screwed me over
But had me believing it was always something that I'd done
But I don't wanna live that way
Reading into every word you say
You said that you could let it go
And I wouldn't catch, you hung up on
Somebody that you used to know
But you didn't have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing
And I don't even need your love
But you treat me like a stranger and that feels so rough
And you didn't have to stoop so low
Have your friends collect your records
And then change your number
I guess that I don't need that though
Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Somebody (I used to know)
Somebody (Now you're just somebody that I used to know)
Somebody (I used to know)
Somebody (Now you're just somebody that I used to know)
Somebody
