This version got me buying new figures for a brief time in the 90s. I was in high school and too old for toys by social convention, I was into music mostly. This version caught my eye though and I never had a Cobra Commander. I got a few others while they were on the pegs. Later, when nostalgia starting hitting after the line was discontinued, I picked some up at flea markets, then ebay.
FINALLY!!! The epic 1993 Black Hoodie and I have a story to re-tell about it. When I first saw it was at the flagship Thrifty Drug Store at Wilshire & Mariposa here in Los Angeles (Next to the once world famous Brown Derby Restaurant and Ambassador Hotel) and with my Step-Dad to go get soems tuff this new 1993 lienup of figures was there and I saw this Black hoodie CC and went crazy and had to have it. As it would happen we were out of enough money to get it and I was told I could not get it. A multi-hour tantrum began and when we got home my Grandfather gave him some money and he went back out to get my Black Hoodie that is among the top fave of my personal vintage figures.
When Cobra Commander interrupted your intro, I instantly heard the music, “The Jaws of Cobra” as noted on the show’s soundtrack. BA-DAAA-BAAAAA….. BAAAAA-DAAAAAAA-DAAAAAA-DAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!
Hey HCC788. The belt system that has a strap that goes across the chest is called a Sam Brown belt. It is a holster set that goes back to the Victorian era. Soldiers and police dressed with that for many years, and still can be found on some ceremony dress uniforms today!
I remember finding this one at Target and bought it right away. I had never found a CC at store until then. I was to young to get the first two versions as I was born in 80
Great review. For those that like to make custom figures, this head can be used to make the big shirtless guard from the M.A.S.S. Devise seen just after the slave girl slips Duke the golden sheet thing that is used to block Cobra's mind control that they use to force him to fight. You can combine this head with a shirtless chest such as the Mortal Kombat Johnny Cage, L. Kang, or even Road Pig. Cheers.
I always found it weird that for all the later reissues of this mold they never got back the remolded back from this version, and always used the flat back from the Talking Battle Commanders release (with the backpack screw holes filled in).
this Cobra Commander was one of the last remaining from my childhood collection, before as an adult I started replacing my worn out Joes at comic shops
I have all three of the early 90s Cobra Comander figures MOC. The 1992 talking backpack Cobra Comander I have surprisingly the batteries are still working strong. I really wanted this one as a kid. The black color looked good to me and his eye holes were painted properly unlike the previous mold.
First time I have seen v6, but without the massive backpack, v5 might need to be sought. Both v5 and v6 are sweet, and I dont normally like 90s Joes. Thanks for your video!
20:20 to be fair, it wasn't the fire that destroyed the mask... it was the fact that Snake Eyes shot him with a flechette round. There was even an editor's note helpfully letting us know that Snake Eyes was committing a war crime in the process.
I always preferred black/silver as CCs alternate colors instead of crimson. I'd say as close as Marvel and Hasbro worked together Hasbro probably thought "hey that's a cool colorscheme"
Great review (and cosplay), very in depth and even CCv7 got to make an appearance. I'll have to go back and check through your videos to see if you have been doing the CC version to match the Cobra Convergence season each year. If that is the case and if there is a Cobra Convergence next year I look forward to seeing the CCv7 review. I really like that figure, not as a Cobra Commander or even as a G.I.Joe figure, but the CCv7 figure to me looks like an escapee from the 60's - 70's era of Doctor Who. Since I got into Doctor Who by watching reruns of that era on my local PBS station as a kid, that time period does have a special place in my heart and in a six degrees kind of way so does CCv7. Thank you for another review and trip down memory lane.
A figure worthy of the name. The hooded figure looks far more menacing than the generic helmet version. I could do without all the junk 90's accessories. Luckily, he got a solid black figure with silver highlights and none of those awful neon designs.
I always assumed Voltar's gun mold (didn't have this CC, but had the gun in yellow from Mindbender) to be some kind of silenced submachine gun. Knowing now that it originally came with Voltar's means it could be a design out of MARS.
Cobra Commander being a mutants under the mask gives him a certain mystique, it's right up there with both Darth Vader and Dr.Doom being disfigured. Cobra Commander wearing a mask and not being disfigured nor mutated is kind of a bland idea unless he is the evil identical twin or clone of a high profile GI-Joe member.
great review . I have a version of this but its the v14 Joecon one. its in a much nicer deeper blue then the V5 whats interesting to me is that they used the v5 mold to make v14 and not the V6 so it has that unsightly flat pack section. it did have the cloak from the VvsV era 00's stuff which does look good on that mold
Like Starscream, both him and Cobra Comander started out with a deeper raspy voice and respectable. As time passed, they both developed a more high pitch voice and being the butt (_I_) of jokes.
One of the few times they tried to bring back a better look. It was odd. I wonder if there was some kind of power stuggle going on. Random good toys would come out in the 90s that looked more like 82 to 86 toys. I wonder if there was a split between the guys who wantef the neon scifi and the guys who wanted more traditional gi joe.
This is definitely 1 of the better figs that released in the 90s, but still not as memorable to me as the '84 hooded Coco. Those weapons trees were a huge disappointment and they were all reissues. If they issued him with a newer pistol that could attach to the back, used a little less silver and a bit more red and offered a more streamlined head with smaller eye-holes, he would've been a better, more viable version.
This isn’t a bad looking figure, and makes me wonder it might have been based on the one in the marvel comic book you mentioned, and I know you didn’t say that, but it might have🤷🏻♂️💁🏻♂️.
@@GeneralSantucci1st Ha! Exactly! I thought about mentioning that I didn't know how many people had the issue with that image in the back. Then again I think it comes up on google right away when doing a search for C.C.
I hated the talking backpacks wish they were removable with out all the work to get them off also I hated the guns at that time period of this figure they never held in the hands and looked a little to big and goofy
This was my favorite commander when I was a kid. The black and silver was just so cool
At the time he was L.A. Raiders Cobra Comander.
@@joshuachristian5443 he does come with good defense 🧨🙂
When I was a kid, this was the Cobra Commander that I had. Him and V3 Destro used to stir up all kinds of shit at the GI Joe command center.

Other than having the armored CC in 87, this is my story.
So glad you are back in action! COBRA!!!!!

Yeah!!! Love the Cobra Commander uniform. COBRAAAAAAAAAA!

I had the good luck to buy this version ... good memories of my childhood
"Overlord... existed." I love it :)
I always liked cobra commander in a black uniform.

“I saw you pass him something!! Search him!!” (SEARCHES DUKE)
I love the commitment to the skits. Lol
This is such a great version of Cobra Commander! Honestly one of my favorites.
Glad to see the "real" Hooded Cobra Commander in this video!

I agree wish we would get a 6 inch of this version as well as the blue v2

Version 7 is obviously the Mysterio version.
This version is my official version of the commander.a shame we never got that new back mold again
When it comes to media, you should always remember the Transformers season 3 episode where Cobra Commander makes an appearance, always a favorite
Old Snake ...Coooobraaa-hac hac cough cough.
Great figure the previous blue colour scheme was a big step up from the 84 HCC
Yeah! Comic CC was way more ruthless than cartoon CC. Never forget comic Cobra Commander kicked a puppy!
I knew Dr. Minbinder was a traditor in this review. Excellent Cobra Commander cosplay at the end.
Well done HCC. Cobra Convergence is going great. So much fun stuff to check out. Thanks.
That is an awesome Figure, shame about the stuff he came with. There were some real hidden gems from '92 and '93 .
played with this guy alot
First time I have seen v6, but without the massive backpack, v5 might need to be sought. Both v5 and v6 are sweet, and I dont normally like 90s Joes. Thanks for your video!
For cobra insignia and ranking info, get your hands on the lil cobra command book that came w his first 12 inch fig. Wish i still had that.

Hail Cobra Commander I hear and obey I await your orders
Cooooobraaaa!!!!
I always preferred black/silver as CCs alternate colors instead of crimson. I'd say as close as Marvel and Hasbro worked together Hasbro probably thought "hey that's a cool colorscheme"
Way better than the talking commander colors, and better than Atlantis refugee CC with the battle armor. #3 look imo.
💚

He is really cool. But I prefer the blue version ❤️ great video as always
Another great review! ‘ are we the baddies?’ 😂 😂
And Ralph nader! Ahhahhhahhgahagg 😂😂😂😂
All hail Serpentor !!!

3rd best Commander imho
Great episode Hoodie! You are running out of CoCos to review. The Cobra Commander costume looked good!

Sup from New Zealand 🇳🇿 🥑🙃, hi HCC, hope you are well
COBRA!!!
This has always been a cool figure that's for sure
Nice but yes a updated snake phasers would of been great
“2 Sliver missiles” Oops
Why can't we get Cobra Comander in Black as one of the unlock tears in the HASLAB Project ???
2 "sliver" missiles 😂

Still has mines, just need to replace the left leg. #HailCobra
The loose baggy version..
hi, HCC788 do you know what happened to Kevin, I haven't seen any new reviews from him in a while, thought you might know what happened to him.
'
Agreed. He was one of the 3 original Cobra Convergence presenters.
I also miss Joefan82
Cobra Commander being Left-Handed would make sense. He's Sinister.
Like Starscream, both him and Cobra Comander started out with a deeper raspy voice and respectable. As time passed, they both developed a more high pitch voice and being the butt (_I_) of jokes.
I enjoy the show and love me some cobra commander. Question would you be doing the 12 inch figure that came out late 90's ?
One of the few times they tried to bring back a better look. It was odd. I wonder if there was some kind of power stuggle going on. Random good toys would come out in the 90s that looked more like 82 to 86 toys. I wonder if there was a split between the guys who wantef the neon scifi and the guys who wanted more traditional gi joe.
In 95 they were supposed to pull back to a more realistic style, so, maybe so?
Snake Eyes version 3 colorway

That's what I always thought or vice-versa. I remember having a comic with Cobra Comander returning and looked like this figure.
The dog kicker one
@@GeneralSantucci1st Ha! Exactly! I thought about mentioning that I didn't know how many people had the issue with that image in the back.

How do I send you a picture of a custom Cobra Commander figure ?
yeah of course cobra commander is left handed like every evil people out there. like paul mccartney for example xD
I guess he was a rarity in the 90's from what I had seen of the garish colors of most 90's figures.
I hated the talking backpacks wish they were removable with out all the work to get them off also I hated the guns at that time period of this figure they never held in the hands and looked a little to big and goofy
That card art makes CC look like Donald Duck pitching a fit.
Looks cool, but not interested in figures this late in the series.
The old school soft hood sculpt looks really good but the eyes are really poorly done imo. Looks deformed.
