New Roland user here - great board for the money. Great sounds. Echoing a few other comments here @Roland: I am getting the "incorrect file!" error message (not addressed in any Roland support FAQs...) as a few others as well, after going through all steps correctly; I have also wiped the board 2x (factory reset) and tried multiple .EXZ packs which show as being correct for the board (i.e, on Roland's own website for expansion packs etc, these are listed as compatible). Not just that, either: the "incorrect file!" message pops up AFTER the .SDZ tone import as seen here, as well. In other words: BOTH 'acceptable' files are being rejected. Roland, if anyone checks your 42.K subscriber base here, please acknowledge these comments.
...as to the expansions: just follow Ed's instructions & they're a breeze to download & install. I downloaded & installed the "Vintage Keys" expansion & love it. Once again: thanks Ed Diaz...you're the man w/ the plan on these instruction videos!
I joined the Roland Cloud and purchased 5 zen packs. Very nice! BUT... you failed to mention that only one pack can be downloaded at a time into the RD88 and set up for scenes and patches. I wanted to load the World pack AND and Piano Pack but found that after I had spent a lot of time creating scenes and patches and storing them, It was revealed that I would have to erase the previous load in to make a separate set or bank of presets! This was not the case for the tones. Am I doing something wrong here?
It's so typically Roland to make something so complicated that should really be a more simple process. Their owners manuals are also crap. Saying that, I love the Roland sound and I'm very happy with my RD88, although I admit that I'm only using its factory scenes.
I just bought the RD 88 piano. I have some questions. Might there be a firmware update to ensure all the sampled sounds have the same volume level? It's really annoying that the sounds I like the most are the quietest ones yet some sounds like Clavs are more like the volume level I'd prefer to hear. Also, since the RD 88 EX has now come out, would the update from RD 88 to RD 88 EX be an extra set of sounds, leaving the originals as they were or would the update be a complete over-write of the firmware? And possibly fixing the first 'issue' I mentioned? Thanks.
Windows is preventing the RD 88 Software update from being opened in the PC.It is also refusing to install in the RD 88 with no update prompt visible on the screen. Is there a problem with the system?
What wave expansion packs are available for the RD88? I've just purchased an RD88 and want more tonewhetl organ and better acoustic guitar sounds as the RD88's acoustic guitar sounds are actually inferior to something coming from a 1992 rompler! Surely I don't need to pay for a subscription to Roland Cloud in order to access wave expansions?
What about the Roland RD2000? Will there be more expansions? or an update to Zen-Core sounds? I don't want to think that it will be abandoned by Roland :(
Hi , Does anyone know why in dual mode piano/pad for example, polyphony reduces very very much ? Is it possible to fix some where in the menu ? I've tried, but can't find . Many thanks
Yeah everyone experiencing the same thing.. Looks like its a huge flaw to the current products. Some says using "old/regular" supernatural piano sounds (rd300nx/700nx) solve the problems.
I have installed Wave Expansions in the AX-Edge in a similar way (pressing Enter and switching on). But is there another way to load them than rather importing the tones?
I've tried it, but my RD-88 does not like any expansions. EX006_World.ezx "Wrong File" There is no more Rd-88 dedicated file on Roland Cloud. When downloading the series is "Multi-series" . Did Roland mess up with the files when attempting to make them ezx files universal to all zen core boards? So disappointing. Now only EX001 works for RD-88 which is pre installed from factory, anyway. That is so sad.
@@byryg.d.479 Thanks, that is an important point. But I followed the instructions carefully. Before trying it out I checked the latest firmware version on Roland’s website and it was the latest version shipped from factory. Besides not being able to install that expansion the RD-88 does not have any other new patches available on cloud, unlike several other boards. In the end it did not make much difference as I mostly play acoustic and electric piano sounds for swing jazz, which is my world. Scarcely risk some organs here and there. The brass section is queued up to be explored one day. First I need to learn to play this right, as piano is a secondary instrument for me. Overall I love my RD-88 and would never trade it for a Juno DS-88 with plenty more features, for example. But thanks for the reminder.
This is so long winded, I just bought 3 sound packs and by the looks of this I have to load each individual sound by following all this menu diving and then create a scene (after I have loaded them onto the rd88 in the first place) & only then can I play through them all. For 3 packs this going to take me ages, there’s like 20 sounds per pack 😭😡
I can't believe they never mentioned that you need a lifetime key to have access to these.... Kind of an important detail. What's the point of the subscription then ? Only for VST's? Am I getting this right ? Super disappointed
I love my RD88, but I bought it for the keybed, playability, weight, and speakers. The sounds as they are are pretty good and favorites works well. But the menu diving and tedium involved in doing anything serious is nauseating. That's why I just use VST's, which sound better anyway and the RD88 is a nice controller with some good internal sounds and splits for playing out. Poor Ed Diaz who has to smile while taking 120 steps to do a simple function. What takes 11-16 steps on a Roland takes 1-2 on a Hydrasynth. In additional, the sound packs are a one at a time deal. Load one, make your scenes. But if you load a second one and want to customize, EVERYTHING you did with the previous pack is wiped out. An engineers idea of a joke I suppose. But no one who is finding this out is laughing. Joe
3000 tones and not one useable wurlitzer? Hey, it´s supposed to be a STAGE PIANO. My 12 year old RD-330GX has a much better wurlitzer, because the velocity-switches are more smooth. Also the F.M.-pianos sound very poor on the RD-88. I have bought and installed EXZ011 (Classic E.P.s) and wasted my money (& time), because there is also no better wurlitzer (and no FM-Piano at all) 🙁
I can’t download more than 1 file more than that it shows memory full which is stupid why don’t you make your $1500 piano with at least 1gb of storage and !!!!!!
Are you kidding me Roland? You know we want less menu diving in general, never mind having to pay a decent amount of money after most people paid $1000 or more for the keyboard just to obviously want to tap into the keyboards for potential, and this is what you implement? It’s $20 a month for Roland cloud??? Have you lost your minds? Can somebody please show me something? I am very serious and very concerned.

Thanks for this demo. I have to say the method is so old fashion windows 95 style process. Sounds are great though
agree, but the display was twice as big 25 years ago 😄
Thank you for sharing!
why is there not a app that works through usb??
Is it just me or is it really that overly complicated to import new waveforms and sounds into the RD88?
I hope i never have to do this procedure...😖
Definitely NOT you.

I put the .exz file on the flash drive and followed the instructions but I receive the error message "Expansion File Not Found!"
My says incorrect file when its downloading on the piano any ideas?
i get wrong file ... I formated the drive in the RD-88, I downloaded and put the.exz file in the root of the drive ... did not work

@@azduelingpianos So I eventually got it to work. Are you paying for roland cloud?
@@loganbrogden8561 how?? I am currently on their 'trial' for 30 days...
@@azduelingpianos the roland cloud subscription doesn't actually give you all the sounds, you have to buy them separately. It sucks.

does RD-88 work wit WC-1?
How do I set up properly the switch pedal for use scenes up dow I try what is on the manual but I can change scenes can you help Ed
Is it free to install these on the RD88? I see conflicting information. What level of cloud membership is needed?
