Would love to see a short video on what "against nonplayers, only absorbs some harmful spells" spells are for simulacrum.
Dark simulacrum was quite funny to use, don't remember the expansion, but do remember when locks could have doomguard as a permanent pet and as it cost mana, you could just have your own doomguard as a dk xD

How do you do this? Duel a warlock, have him cast doomguard?
It is worth mentioning that the charges on Bone Shield have a 2 second internal cooldown, meaning that even if you receive a lot of hits (i.e. aoe tanking) it will still always be up for at least 10 seconds. Making it the DK version of Divine Protection, more or less.
Anyone else remember all the fuss that happened when player learned that, in Cata, healers need to do damage to be effective? People were losing their minds on the forums.
That didnt start in cata, that was only for disc priests.

I mained a Bear in OG Cata. By Dragon soul our raid team only needed me as tank for almost all fights. My dodge chance was so high stacks would fall off me. Looking forward to continuing my bear in Classic =)
There's some other tricks not mentioned that actually makes the blood shield even more insane if you play the spec properly. If it plays the same as it was in retail cata, omfg. That shield is your everything.

DK in cata is SO much more fun than in wrath. Frost rotation is smoother and Unholy rotation is actually cool (as compared to that abomination we had to use in wrath). And blood is just amazing to play.
Frost literally just spams howling blast though. My fav spec in wow that is doomed to be trash forever
I guess it wasn't just preference that made me remember that DK felt great in Cata. I can't wait!

Players used dark sim to hit Ragnaros in firelands for like a billion damage in OG cata
it was quite sad to see simulakrum moved to pvp talents when i returned to retail after 7 years 6 month ago ..... the skill was greate use and fun to use in dungeons and challengemode pandaria&Warlords

Dark simulacrum is very underrated . It can steal amazing abilities in hc dungeons such as holy fire from DM HC which does 100K-150k dmg and in pvp it is game changing and high skill capped ability that can steal ice block / sheep / hex / bubble/ blink if timed correctly .
Ooh it absolutely is under-rated.

DK, is ridiculously OP'd.
Lets not forget DRW gets updated as a proper defensive now, 20% extra parry chance while its up, and it doubles the death strike heals if im not mistaken, although that might be a future expac
The cap for Blood Shield (Blood Mastery) is equal to your max health
Aye and also to add to that, through mastery its not achievable, the theoretical cap for it is just under 40,000 mastery to cap it in one deathstrike
Back in the day I remember i used the addon that measure the max potential of the Blood Shield, and is well worth getting if it works the same way as it did in retail Cata.
Side note about the combat ress: the resource cost in the form of 50 RP isn't that significant if you're a blood DK. I'm playing blood at ilvl 350 atm, i've been spamming HCs like crazy and never had an issue where i had to wait 2 sec to be able to CR someone. Reason for this is that you want to keep your runic power pretty high due to the death strike glyph. You never want to spam rune strike untill 0 RP.
Cata and MoP were peak DK gameplay. I really hope they release MoP classic. Dot snapshotting for UH was bonkers in ToT. Feather of Ji-kun, tricks of the trade, all your procs, mastery stacking, then spam festering strikes. DoTs could get up to 5 minutes of duration. Bosses absolutely melted when you’re doing mechanics not even attacking them.
DK Felt so much better in Cata, and ngl might even be my 3rd alt if I end up doing one, solid vid as always Scott!

Didn’t even mention the op dark sim spell steal…combustion, dark soul
dunno what server you have done that on but combustion has no mana cost so you cant dark sim that but yea you can. with spell steal

outbreak is dps loss for both dps specs unless the target is out of range. it's mostly used as you're running into melee range to apply both diseases. sustained melee dps will just plague strike for dmg + reapplying. also if dots can be snapshotted, pestilence would be a better to refresh for unholy maybe. outbreak for tank though is amazing, it really speeds up a dk tank's ability to get their aoe dmg/threat down
Ya Outbreak is an absolute must for tanks as it really speeds up your setup to get into your rotation.
The real question is how snapshotting garg (and the big dude?) works in cata. This is what defined dk in wotlk pretty much.
They snapshot from strength/AP procs, but not haste/crit.
Once the haste/crit proc/buff ends, so does the benefit on your pet

thematically frost makes WAY more sense as a tank spec, and makes WAY less sense as a dps spec

nah, blood should have always been the heavy hitting dps spec, while frost should have been the tank spec

Blizz only made it that way later on, in the early op days, Blood dk was the dps you brought to nax, and all it did was oblit and heart strike and didn't bother with disease's at all, it just got nerf'd and made more tanky and will of the necropolis plus the healing was really good a tanking, blizz looked it as a different way to tank rather than deffensive like war/prot and the hp sponge oh druid and went with it, I Raided with blood on wotlk classic with the gear it still pumps, Gueess i'll go 2h frost for cata.

In all honesty I still much prefer the prot warrior tank even though I know my dk is better. I just loved prot warrior in cata
Prot warriors are as good as any tank in cata. Hell i tank HC raids in wotlk with my prot warrior (only seen one other prot warrior so we are rare on my server:) )

Mastery is your absolute everything. There should be absolutely nothing you have or enchant or gem that doesnt have mastery on a blood DK. It is your absolute everything.

one thing about blood dk that has really surprised me is HOW Much dmg we actually do single target and in dungeons! my blood dk is 100% bis in wrath + shadowmourne! and i felt like a dps in dungeons! i cant wait for it! and that is with everything literally being broken on the beta! no runic empowerment
you do by far the worst dps from all of the tanks in wotlk tho
@@Direksone sure if you're playing the shit icy touch spam spec! go the parse spec, either frost or the unholy variants! and you can 100% be competitive with paladins!
It's really interesting seeing Cata from this perspective, as when cata originally released the meta was VASTLY different, same with wrath. In wrath for example, affliction was kinda trash when it released because there was no scaling at all with any dots, we played destruction all the way until ICC when we finally got scaling dots with a patch.
Same thing here with cata, DK tanks were kinda trash originally, i remember them getting absolutely CLAPPED on some heroic firelands bosses, same with survival hunters, they are so OP now but originally no one played them, everyone played MM... surv wasn't buffed until Dragonsoul.
It's unfortunate that we only get these expansions with final end patch balancing, would be interesting to recreate the class balance aswell, but would probably be way too much of a pain in the ass.
@Scottejaye, any chance you know if there is an expansion (Cataclysm or later) that the limitation of 1 death knight per account per realm is lifted?

Love this preaching about DK being fun as hell in Cata. Cata-WoD DK being peak DK design is what I've been saying for years, and Unholy DK in this time period is my absolute favorite class of all time in any RPG ever. Great coverage on DK changes

Oh I genuinely didn't think that actually came until cata and i sat with a pserver DK tank in discord covering all these points before recording and he didn't correct me on it >.
And the Cata version is nerf to it. Going from 10% heal on party to 5% and loosing that extra 1% on self.
And it's up against some stiff competition for that Major Glyph slot versus Anti-Magic Shell, Blood Boil, Bone Shield, Dancing Rune Weapon & Vampiric Blood.
Certainly not the worst pick for a third slot but probably not the default either. Might be situational or composition based decision, such as with a Resto Shaman using Spirit Link Totem.
The age of shield and blocking is over when cataclysm arrive.
It's dominated by parry and dodge.
Main tank is always dk while off tank is dudu.
I wonder when blizz fix rune regen though - as of now on prepatch my DK has rune regen wotlk style (all at the same time)
It's been working correctly for me since the prepatch came out, but there are so many bugs it's hardly surprising lol

UH is deceptively easy to play. I wasn't a fan of UH in wrath and just played frost, but I'm really enjoying the cata UH spec. Feels smooth and it slaps. I'd highly recommend giving it an honest try

Nope you definitely don't need it mate, its just optimal that's all. You'll be just fine without it though because like you say its far more linear in comparison to what we had before.

I read that uh is strong for a while whereas frost got better I think in cata it'll get worse. I didn't play cata and this is only based off what I read

Is it worth taking the Unholy Blight 1-pointer talent for UH PvE DK?
Ill let you know this much. In Cata Unholy is best as a support tree for Blood or Frost. For DPS, Frost is the absolute juggernaut and tops DPS boards.
It's a fair dps increase since you use death coil a ton, and the only other place to really put it is in magic suppression. Outside of fights with aoe spell damage that you'd be pressing anti magic shell, you'd be better off putting the point in unholy blight.
Does this take into account the gargoyle snap shotting fix in wotlk?
Gargoyle isn't nearly what it was in wrath, but UH dks go hard regardless. It's all about pet/rune management
if i play my dk in cata as blood again (since i startet dk as blood dd) i play blood AS DAMAGE DEALER even thou it seams "tank" i play dd blood :D

Hello and thank you for this video! I'm playing an Unholy DK and I'm full pre bis but I can't figure out which stat to prioritize...
Currently without any buff except my unholy presence I am at 35% haste / 26 expertise / 8 mastery (basic) / 8.20% hit / 25% crit.
But I noticed that when I lower my haste a little from 35% to 25% and put it in mastery I do more damage. So if anyone knows the correct caps to reach for an unholy full PVE dk thanks in advance =)
Your stat prio for secondary stats is 8% hit>haste>crit>expertise>mastery. Since your runes are refunded when you get dodged/parried and most of your damage comes from spells/your pet, expertise is valued far less. Mastery just doesn't boost damage as much as haste and crit (both of which your pet,gary, and army benefit from). So reforge expertise and mastery into haste.

There are tons of guides covering warrior if you're interested. I'm not a fan of the rage rework though. You're always rage starved, and it feels awful

Unpopular opinion: DK's are the worst tanks ever! But, I am also willing to admit that this is more of a Bad Player issue.

Death strike is so OP giving you a solid heal and shield. With enough mastery the shield can be equal to about 50% of your health.
When it comes to Baradin Hold second phase boss, DK tanks will be the only good tank for the fight due to AMS.
+1 on skill issue, but that’s because most players suck at the game anyways.
Can immediately tell bad DK tanks. If they’re not running Gammas in frost morb or blood morb with DnD glyph, you’re going to have a bad time. If they’re not running double buff spec when there’s no frost DK or cucked enhance in the raid you’re going to have a bad time. If they’re not cycling cooldowns while immediately pulling the inferno while tanking Halion at the same time, they’re trash DK tanks, etc.
@@jonathanw1106 It's more of Blizzard and guide writers fault. Blizzard didn't give dk a good tools to tank trash and all guides talking about raid tanking, not 5 man. For new player dk imho most difficult tank to start tanking 5 mans.
as a blood dk main for all of wrath 100% a skill issue! you are super tanky have incredible single target thraet! but if you miss play anything you can and will just die! oh you hit your defensives for soul reaper a second to early or to late you die! or like grey said you arent cycling cds through halion movement phases OR tanking up top with the living infreno on you + boss you will just die! its the beautiful thing about DK you have a test with literally all the answers to the questsions but if you answer any of them wrong you will just die!

Pillar of ice or something like that went down instant cast to 1.5 seconds made it harder to solo teams in 2v2 so I quit.

i was gearing up my tank DK on RDF.. and it was a nightmare, the threat generate was so lame, if i hv a party member with a high or equal gear score to me.. idk abt cata, if DK being so good as tank than its gonna be HUGE change
Blood dk in wrath is much harder you can't dps at all and have to rely on death and decay. It's better in cata I believe
Yeah, it's leagues better. Threat gen shoots up insanely fast in cata. The top dps aren't even close
Unholy only gets a lot more fun to play in MoP too
