Last Friday, two Black Stanford University student swimmers made it through the Olympic trials in Omaha, Nebraska, making it the first time two Black women will represent the U.S. in swimming. Swimmers Simone Manuel, 19, and Lia Neal, 21, were placed in the center of racist hyperbole and ridicule when Yahoo announced the news.

I low key agree with one of those comments. If I see black people competing it doesn't even register in my mind, it's just another athlete. But people always bring up and shine light on it that causes more of a separation it seems

they make mention of them being black because YOU PEOPLE made RULES to keep us out of things like YOUR POOLS, drinking from your fountains, using your restrooms and attending your schools so DON"T act like we have ALWAYS been apart of this along with you....so SOME things are a FIRST and therefore important BECAUSE of your RULES.... you wouldn't even notice.

We prove white people wrong. If they say we can't do it, let's show them that we can. Massive success is the greatest revenge.

Just reading through the bizarre comments highlighted in this video. Manuel was referring to the history of marginalization in the sport of swimming. Not unlike many sports, African Americans were not allowed to swim due to public opinion even after the passage of civil rights laws giving them access to Whites only pools. We don't see many African American swimmers also because most swimming programs were placed in predominantly or only white communities. History shows this. There has also been a movie made on this historical issue: Pride.

we should really uprise a sosiatey that speaks out against racism.there are a lot of black prehistoric athletes who have paved the way for many more black athletes to come. but of course there will always be people to critisize very good black athletes who have definitely worked there butts off to make it to the Olympics. Because we are judged by the color of our skin they punch us down to the ground ,mentally.people should not by judged by the color the there skin but the hard work and determination to reach there goal.as for these two black athletes.

how has this stereotype been thought to be real? black people can’t swim?
it’s just the matter of one’s preference,
if you didn’t see any black guys in swimming pool, it’s just your personal experience.
and to be fair, I call anybody that says those stereotypical shits just inexperienced not racist, because I think person’s presumption is based on experiences they have witnessed and It’s just that they need to have the opposite situations and stuffs and realize , not that they’re a piece of shit.
