Correction: Obsidian isn't open source yet. Mixed up my notes on that one, thanks to @Andypassion for pointing it out! There will be more video's on Logseq, I'm only scratching the surface of this app just jet.
5:00 Appreciate the awesome shout-out for my "What's Obsidian" video. Great work Bas, this was a super well made and really concise video! I can't wait to see Logseq grow, I love it and use it on daily basis!
Some thoughts. Obsidian is free, not open source. The possibility to open only one window there is really very uncomfortable. I have the same sync issues with Logseq. Maybe one day there will be an app that will be like notion+logseq+mindmap+miro+ipad pencil.. It would be huge :)
You're right, got my notes mixed up on the plans to Open Source Obsidian, but it isn't the case yet. forum.obsidian.md/t/open-sourcing-of-obsidian/1515/6 Not sure if I would like an app that does it all, I would prefer multiple apps talking to a single backend so when searching I would find everything I recorded instead of just slices of it. Open data like the markdown for Logseq and Obsidian are a step in that direction at least.
If you mean the endless scroll with Logseq then no, but Obsidian does show you all the backlinks on a side pane and I wouldn't be surprised if there's a plugin or other smart way to get the collected info. Checkout @dannyhatcher who has a more in-depth knowledge set on the capabilities of Obsidian then me.
Thank you for your video. May I ask you what is your actual day job or professional role? I am intrigued by your description but need more information to relate.
No problem, let me try and summarize it. I'm an Linux Infra Engineer, but last couple of years I have taken on more and more management roles, like scrum master, product owner. You can always check my LinkedIn page for more details. As that one is hooked up to my personal career.
I came to the same conclusion, great minds! I do want to mention though that Obsidian, while free for basic use, is not open source. It's also interesting how obsessed people are with Roam and Obsidian but way less so with Logseq 🤔
They are fundamentally different, databases be tricky but notes you can use the csv/md export from Notion and drop the md files in logseq space. Maybe in pages/notion subfolder so it's easy to spot the difference between Notion and self made. I still use them side by side a lot. Logseq my chaos brain and Notion for order.
I don't understand the cons that you mentioned for Obsidian. Logseq works offline too, it uses Github if you want to sync your notes. But you can use Git with Obsidian too, plus they also have an integrated service called Obsidian Sync that runs very smoothly. Their mobile app is in development, whereas there's no mobile app for Logseq in sight. Also, you can't open multiple windows with Logseq either. But in Obsidian you can open as many panes as you want. Obsidian is also much more stable than Logseq and it got tons of plugins.
I'm mostly talking about logseq.com that I can open in multiple windows and works (limited though) on the same document and the website is mobile optimized so while there is no app, I have no issues using it on my phone. It's mostly build in benefits for being a web application. Obsidian is a lot more stable for sure and once the mobile app is out I will check it out.

This person encapsulated everything I had in mind regarding Roam cost, the use and complexity of Notion and the use of Logseq. Great video.

Same here, just having a place to really dump my brain is awesome in itself and it already helped so much on this video getting data.
dude, that was so enlightening! Thank you very much! I wish I knew that app years ago!
Thanks for the kind words and enjoy the logseq journey!
I will definitely stick with LogSeq for quick-noting, and maybe even for notes with some projects summary data.
You've got my like, sir.
It was LogSeq that got me into the daily log way of taking notes. I already did something on paper but having it digital is so much better.
Keep up the good work, Bas 👏
Thanks, will do!
Cool stuff Bas!
Thanks!
exactly the same problem I had! Thank you so much!
Glad it helped!
So good Bas! 🔥
Thanks David!

Tana app is looking promising
It's missing the "move the node to another" hotkey that Dynalist has. And I couldn't even manually drag or copy a node into another page.
This is getting me curious on Dynalist, I might need to do live stream figuring out Dynalist soon.
is obsidian able to put all the #projectx into one summary file too?

Good to know, and Logseq is still a bit younger but I'm sure the fanatics will show up more and more. :D
Is there an easy port from a Notion database to Loqseq? Looking to make a switch based a lot on your content (which is quite enjoyable)

Have you tried RemNote?
No I haven't till now, it looked more geared at learning and as such wasn't on my radar as much. But it's on my shortlist to try.

how about craft? 😎
I think I looked at craft a long time ago, while I'm currently commited to my tools I'll keep tabs on their release schedule. :)
Two good co... eh.. two coffee at starbucks! 🤣
Maybe three if I ask them to hold all the sugar :)
🤣
