- You can find petoskey stones almost anywhere in Michigan. I found this one among my garden rocks, not native to this area but brought here from a rock quarry. When wet, these fossils have a pattern left by ancient coral in the Devonian age, Hexagonaria. But when they dry it can be less distinct. To preserve the Petoskey pattern, I’ve gathered the necessary tools for a hand polishing. (Santino Mattioli | MLive)
*I purchased a huge kit of sandpaper. Ranging from 120 to 12,000 grit. I have MacGuire's cutting wax/polish for car's paint and clear coat and a cordless drill with a foam polisher. I sandes down my stones from coarse to smooth. Then 5,000 to 12,000 grit made the stones like glass.*
Thanks for the advice. 👍

Great video!
Many videos I have seen recommend soaking in vinegar for up to 3 days, changing the vinegar periodically. Why don't you? Is it because you don't think it is worth the time? Doesn't help? Just curious.
Forgot to comment on long each sanding step requires. Better have some time on your hands.
