Wowww, AMAZING n I use too go here to w/ my Mom n Dad. Use to see the Circus too here!! I miss it. This is in my area. Im now 51 yrs. Old n i have my son whom is, 31.
I grew up in Hamilton Township (where the track was located) and more than likely attended this race. When I was in my early teens, my older cousin and I would place 2 step ladders with wood blanks in an alley on the back stretch, literally 3 feet from the track, and watch the race. When the races ended, I had tire dust tire in my hair, ears, and nose. I had a constant ringing in my ears for days. At 18, my claim to fame at the track was when Steve Krisiloff was tire testing it was interrupted by rain. When the rain stopped they asked anyone with a car to drive around the track to dry it. No helmet, no seatbelt, no safety anything... I had my trriump spitfire speedometer buried. Great, great memories of the Tenton (NJ) Speedway. Now 73 years old and wiser.
Thank you so much for this amazing story! I am only 32 years old but i absolutely adore the racing from the 60s to the 90s. Everything from touring cars to F1 over prototypes to Indycar and NASCAR, it was absolutely legendary. The cars where so unique and the tracks where raw and interesting. I am so sad that Trenton does not exist anymore. It is such a very special track and it is something we need today to make stuff interesting again! It is basically my favorite gone oval, just like Riverside International Raceway is my favorite road racing track thats not here anymore. I do lots of sim racing and I am very happy that I can experience the glory of Riverside in those driving simulators, sitting down in my sim racing rig.
I used to attend all the Indy and Stock car races with my dad when I was a kid, after it closed I would skateboard on the banked turns with my friends until they demolished the track, good memories!
I remember coming from NYC to the USAC Trenton 150 and Mario Andretti won. And I recall an accident that caused a lot of black smoke towards the begging of the front grandstand. Afterwards, Mario was escorted across the grandstand and guess who happened to be standing there? Me! And I touched Mario by patting him on the back. About 10 years later I would meet his son Michael when he raced at the Meadowlands.

Could you imagine this track these days?
It would be awesome
This track or one like it should still exist, that fact that none do is a sacrilege. An oval with a right turn, what part of that isn't brilliant?

First of all, nice suit Paul! Second, I never knew Gary didn't have white hair. I guess I'm too young.
Wow. An Indy Car race with American drivers! We'll never see that again.
That's why Indy car sucks today!
what a cool track
Paul Page has some nice hair...wonder where he bought it from
Both Paul Page & Gary Gerould are still working together at ESPN doing the NHRA.
Note the red-and-blue "N" logo.
Within a few months, it would be superseded by an updated NBC peacock superimposed over the outline of the "N".
Oh how I remember this place swimming in the lakes kings fairground mall arcade oh boy........

shout out to the camera man on the back stretch
I grew up so close to here heard about it was demolished I born 79

@kso374 Yes, the 1970 Knoxville Nationals Champion Joe Saldana
Only 15 cars. Man, if I could have pieced together a car back then....
Joe Saldana, father of Joey Saldana the sprint car driver?

Gateway Motorsports Park also says hello to this (but not to the extent of the track either)
This was the last Indy Race at Trenton.Wally Dallenbach,Sr.won it.
I'll bet you'll see it again in march 2010...
@fueldragster Some carpet store I guess.
Yeah, and you can't even tell it's a wig either. (sorry, I couldn't resist that one)
My sentiments echo F1000X's
