    The last trilogy is one of the best trilogies ever, and definitely did the impossible of getting better over time. Its astoundingly good. This was a great analysis of the movies, and how layered and thought provoking they are intended to be.

    The Planet of the Apes movies have always done an solid job (for the most part) at presenting the social fears of their time. In the older films some of the use of apes was highly problematic, but I think with the reboots that was fixed. "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" in my opinion was a great way to show the divide between moderates and extremists in any revolution. As many people seem to forget moderates exist, it was important to show how complex it could be.
    Great video by the way, incredible as always.

    The Ceaser and Koba rivalry really reminds me of Rick and Shane’s rivalry. Ceaser and Rick fight for a moral bright future filled with love and family, while Shane and Koba fight for themselves and dominance over others and use violence as a first choice. It just shows how great of a tv show the Walking Dead is and how great of a movie franchise Planet of the Apes is.

    Tears in my eyes! As someone who sat through the all of the originals and loved them (I don't usually watch old movies), I can tell that everything you said is true. This series is an EPIC far greater than it's often given credit for. People rave so much about lesser series like GOT, but nothing comes close to POTA in expressing every single bit of human history in a raw and beautiful portrayal of non-human species and role-reversal. Anyone who refuses to watch this series with reasons like "oh they're old movies" or "i don't like seeing apes and monkeys talking like humans" is seriously missing out on the MASSIVELY bigger picture that the Planet of the Apes series paints.

    Some other Easter eggs i found on the reboot trilogy (which i think of them as prequels to the original, before Cornelius and Zira changed the time-line)
    Were The guy who spoke the "Danm dirty ape" line also at some point scares the apes in theirs cages and screams "It's a Madhouse, a Madhouse" like Taylor did in the original.
    Also the fact that Ceasar's first word was "No" like Cornelius explained in Escape, but in his past was Aldo who said it.
    Bad Ape was the first Ape that actually wore clothes and spoke rather than sign that wasn't part of Ceasar's colony.
    Icarus which was Taylor's space ship, it's launch during the movie.

      NathanRomml so let me get this straight. You’re completely dismissing the blatantly obvious racial elements in the PoTA series (which by the way was admitted by the produces of the first film) and shoe horning in a load of circular babble which you clearly had to dig deep in to the depths of utter stupidity to find. All in order to interject totally irrelevant nonsense and basically “all lives matter” the original post. That’s one hell of an imagination you’ve got there.

  • @sadlobster1
    @sadlobster1 3 года назад +6

    To be honest, I think the new trilogy is better than the old series and the reason why can be explained with one example; the origin story.
    According to most fans; in the old series, humans died out in a big nuclear war and Apes (somehow) became the dominant sentient species on the planet. This offers zero explanation as to HOW that rise to dominance even happened.
    Whereas with the movie Rise, it gives us a clear idea of how things went down. It was all because humanity violated sci-fi's number one rule; "perhaps, there are some things that man wasn't meant to tamper with." While the virus Gen-Sys Laboratories was originally meant to help people, Jacobs stupidity and desperation to make a quick billion put several people at risk.
    At the same time, they messed up by exposing the virus into primates; which started to mutate in THEM in a more positive way. Whereas any human that's exposed to it either gets sick real quickly or in the case of Malcolm's father, they later die from it. It was humanity's greed, hubris, stupidity and the abuse they inflicted upon innocent primates that led to humanity dying out ever so slowly (with the possible exception of Little Nova.)
    That right there is a more believable and logical explanation for the ape-ruled society than what the old films gave us. But whether it was the result of a nuclear war or a genetically created virus; either way...like Charlton Heston said, we blew it up

    You missed one, or two, depending on how you look at it. The character "Dodge Landon" is a reference to the other two astronauts who were with Taylor in the original film, which those were their last names(Dodge, and Landon). They didn't fair well during the initial encounter with the Apes. Landon was killed and stuffed(placed in the museum Taylor runs through upon escaping), and Dodge was the one with the horse-shoe scar indicating his frontal lobes(personality) had been removed/disconnected. That's actually a really subtle, but dark part of the first movie. No doubt Dr. Zaius heard about the "talking human" and probably performed the surgery himself, then told everyone who had seen it to either keep it quiet or die from blasphemy.
    That "Dodge Landon" was cruel to the apes in the sanctuary is a reflection of how those two characters were treated in the originals.

    Personally, I am a BIG FAN of the "Planet of the Apes" movie franchise from 1968 to 1973 as well as the live-action TV series from 1974 as well. While I have learned so much from this video by the people behind The Take by ScreenPrism, I still believe that people have a lot to learn in terms of the very relevant issues for the next generation. As for the "Apes" movie reboots, I would admit that I have a hard time dealing with them because of the newly conceived plots and the production values as well. I also admit that the "Apes" movies from 1968 to 1973 were not entirely perfect in terms of the plots and production values, too, but I remained at least entertained by them anyway.

    I actually disagree that the film suggests that we destoryed ourselves because we used technology or in this case strived to cure alzheimers. I believe it shows what happens when we do not follow our responsibilities and proceed recklessly. Since they accelerated research into the drug without taking proper precautions and this was allowed for selfish reasons. Williams released how he was being selfish only after his father died and Malcolm was in it for the profits. Much like today where this current virus came from. Dispite many instances in the past we continued to be reckless by allowing wetmarkets to be a thing still and many allowed them to stay due to selfish reasons like profits or maintaining political positions. This is what causes tragedies

    A day may come in USA when the Americans of European origin are subjugated and people they ruled are the rulers. So this prediction may not be far fetched. • @jamesyoung3760

    I always interpreted Caesar shedding a tear, as something different.
    When the current lawgiver is speaking to integrated ape/human spectators, this does not necessarily change the course of the future. That particular lawgiver is speaking around 85 years before another lawgiver will come along and write the religious doctrines called “the sacred scrolls.” Regardless of what we see depicted, a child and an ape child both get into a small physical exchange before the pan over to Caesar’s statue. The future is still up in the air, as the course of action taken by one will not always alter the course of action of others. If the lawgiver in 85 years time writes the sacred scrolls, the outcome of the entire franchise may very well be the same, and there’s nothing Caesar can currently do to change that. Also, notice that gorillas are not present at the sermon. Where are they? This shows that there will always be other forces at work, and the state of anything can be fragile. The gorillas are not there to hear the sermon, meaning they did not want to integrate and as long as they exist in the world, there will always be military might that stands against Caesar’s ideals of peace. I think Caesar cries, because the future is out of his control. And there’s nothing he can do to change what could be an inevitable outcome.
    It would also make sense that the world to Planet of the Apes is stuck in a time loop. Perhaps time isn’t a street with many lanes, but a street with one lane that we perceive to be altered by choice. What if they will always choose destruction?
    That’s what I got from it. Planet of the Apes is very rarely so surface level. When it is, it’s profound. But I’ve found subtext to be dominating factor in this film series. Just the best movies, really.

    Glad I came across this, succinct and to the point. Did not even consider watching the remakes as I presumed they would have whitewashed the social relevance of the originals, as films dealing with contemporary society are "now verbotten" during periods of crisis, as we are inundated with the "banality of evil" in the form of Marvel Super heroes.
    As an activist of 20 years, I have come to learn that intense indoctrination "the forcing of beliefs onto the victim" halts emotional maturation that comes with learning from experience and coming to one's own conclusions. We now have populations of infantile adults totally dependent upon the system of their oppression and who cannot deal with confrontation and are subservient to corrupt authority and live in a state of perpetual denial. Common symptoms present in personality disorders, including deep self loathing.
    That is why you get this frenzied uncritical support of Sanders, straight after the uncritical support and sell out of Obama (that has been wiped from the memory banks) as they desperately seek a saviour via the ballot box, as the alternative is too terrifying to even consider.
    The left continue to fail to grasp that this a psychological war, while the psychopaths in charge are acutely aware of this and still wield control while committing the most egregious crimes in broad daylight as a result.
    As we now use about 10 barrels of oil for every one we find that is growing in disparity daily (and the impetus driving reckless US militarism) ....the corona virus and total collapse of western industrial society are occurring simultaneously, as denial and stupidity continue to reign supreme. It's going to get extremely ugly I am afraid.

    no i disagree i think the ape movies represent the question what if apes replaced humans not ruled over human

    • @m_winewood
      @m_winewood 4 года назад

      It honestly is deeper than both of those. Its about the flaws in human nature. How we always tend to shoot ourselves in the foot due to our arrogance combined with shortsightedness. We rarely learn our lesson or heed warnings as we are selfish and ignorant and when you pair that with our vast capabilities we are incredibly and increasingly a danger to ourselves and most other species we come in contact with.

    Wait a minute how i love apes series but are some issues about the humans why they dont use a mass rapid fire from every angles to defeat the apes because one man army dont make much difference 😤😫👍🏽😉

    It's about the oppressed over coming their oppressors

    • @landimhlakane9141
      @landimhlakane9141 3 года назад +1

      I think it's even deeper than that...especially in the last two films...it explores what happens after the oppressed are liberation...internal conflicts within the groups...the contrasts of extremists and moderates...a very complex and highly underrated trilogy

      Definalty, the first movie main message was Oppressed overcoming oppressor, the next few movies were like the oppressed overcoming oppressing themselves or something in that manner.
