I can barely reach a ninth... the first few chords are basically impossible for me, especially the C#/second variation of the chords... Curse you Rachmaninoff for having big hands!!!
I found these chords is fully reachable when switching LH and RH (e.g. play F-C-Db-Ab by RH, and C-Db-F-Ab-C by LH) , but there may be troubles proper voicing them in such hands position.
@@user-on6tb4zh5d Interesting, I tried the same thing and was able to just barely make it work if I switch hands, but like you said I couldn't get the voicing down, so I surrendered and just break the chords w/o switching hands. I think Rachmaninoff would forgive me.
Very cool. I like this video style. Your tips are straight and to the point. Very direct and helpful. I actually just posted my first practice video of this piece. I took my favorite part of the song and broke it down into 4 pages. Right now, it sounds very rigid. If you want to check it out and let me know what you think, I'd be appreciate it!
I cannot read music but I have been playing the piano for a long time. Do you think there is anyway for me to memorize this piece and play it? Even if it is like 80% of the reality?
@Josh Wright where did you get your schirmirs book with this concerto. All I’ve been able to find is the “2 pianos 4 hands” version and not the original
It looks like he can do an 11th atleast... Having smaller hands is no excuse not to learn this piece, you can break the chords and it still sounds good.
Ok well you can stretch the distance between each combination of fingers. But go easy on yourself, do not hurt yourself, make sure you’re relaxed and there’s no pain. See a physiotherapist before applying this.
OH LORD I AM DYING OF JOY I'M LEARNING THIS RIGHT NOW.
Kim Yim Thanks Kim! Hope it helps :)

Nishant Modak

Wow! No wonder FiddleGriff Animation used this song as the background song for her video Reversal of the Heart! IT FITS PERFECTLY!!
This is just amazing. Thanks for taking the time for it.

I'm learning this and oml you saved me when you suggested playing the arpeggios in the beginning in blocks! holy crap that is exactly what i needed.
so true, person from 4 years ago!
You are a monster man!

@Arpicembalo I've never learned all of it, but when I do, since I can reach far enough to play those chords blocked, I definitely will.

Сергей Долгих thank you!

I'm probably going to either quit learning this or take few years. But it would be nuts if I can even play the1st movement
OHHH, bunching up the notes - why didn't I think of that before, I used that in Winter Wind too D:

Awesome. I wish I started to learn at an early age because I just can't get any speed in my fingers whatsoever.
cobberwebb That's alright - never too late to learn!
How old are you? Did you solve ur speed problem? 3-year-old comment😂
What about now? Lol
It sucks have small fingers 😭😭😭
Josh, what have you finished?
what chords do you use?
Hello Josh,
What's your hand span, by the way ?
It looks like he can do an 11th atleast... Having smaller hands is no excuse not to learn this piece, you can break the chords and it still sounds good.
Yuja Wang breaks the chords confidently, probably for musical reasons not hand size reasons.
Ok thanks, I do not have hand size issues but it's more a problem of flexibility.

First chord is quite easy but the next ones are tricky, thank you for your advice.
what's the clicking sound?
most likely his ring on his finger...
Anyone know where to get the sheet music for just the piano part? I only see the full score or the 2 piano versions.
Matthew Lim Youd want to have the 2 piano versions, to show where you should be with the orchestra
Go on Musescore, there you can chose between Piano-/any other Instrument/ All Instruments Version of the score.
at the beginning it sounded like a james bond song
or the james bond song sounds like rachmaninoff:)

What is he a "doctor" of?

@@4c00h yes!
Chuck Norris would drown out the orchestra with the piano
