I'm sorry for you but this ain't any Pop Punk you see in this version. Pop Punk has a different sound and a different kind of riffing and songwriting. The riffs come from Metalcore way much more than Pop Punk and the fact that riffs are Metalcore doesn't affect the definition of Metal Subgenre that Metalcore has. Simple Plan are a Pop Punk band but this version is not. The original is a ballad but this version is not. Be sure of what you listen to before labeling a music shade as a specific music shade.
Defining a genre as non-metal doesn't depend on the fact that is an actual modern shade of Metal. Metal doesn't limit itself to 80s or 90s Thrash, Death, Groove and so on. Metal is Metal in all its shades, independently from the fact that it's Nu Metal, Alternative Metal, Metalcore or Post-Hardcore and so on.
