I was able to complete front and rear valve covers and grommets without removing the tensioner bracket. I have a 96 LeSabre. I also replaced the water pump, hoses and thermostat. I just changed the coolant…I didn’t flush it. This car has 118k miles and is absolutely beautiful. It belonged to wife’s uncle and I inherited it back in September. Again, great video. I had to watch this again before tackling the rear cover. I got lucky and didn’t have to remove that tensioner bracket.
I usually go ahead and pull it since it’s so tight in there and it’s good practice to replace those coolant elbows…coolant through the tensioner, another "what were they thinking?" moment. Lol
@@bulldogsautomotiveadventur4387 the elbows had been replaced about 10k miles ago. I have a new tensioner and elbows if I ever need them. My tensioner has the back elbow built in place. It’s not like the removable front one at all. That back valve cover was a chore though. Keep up the great videos.
@@bulldogsautomotiveadventur4387 update: so, in order to replace the water pump, I had to remove two bolts for the P/S pump…no problem. Then, today as I attempted to reinstall this pump…what a pain in the butt for just two bolts. I hope and pray to God that I don’t have to do this anytime soon again. Happy New Year.
Good video. You don’t run the valve cover bolts to 89 inch pounds which is the torque spec? I kinda tightened mine up the other night like you did because my dang torque wrench for some reason is not working. I thought I might need to go buy another one for this job. Thx.
When it comes to the small stuff I go by feel, some of the torque specs are off on the 4mm bolts and you’ll break them off if you do it "the right way", done enough of them I’m confident in my own judgement.
@@bulldogsautomotiveadventur4387 sounds good. I was afraid of over tightening them with my torque wrench at 89 inch pounds because i think my wrench is off. I have it parked now and should pick up another torque wrench to double check them. Thx.
My 2004 Grand Prix is loosing rpm on upon accelerating after any stop.. Not all the times but some times it feels like it wants to shut off while on drive. Any tips is greatly appreciated.
I'm doing mine as we speak I don't have to take nothing but the alternator off to get to my back valve cover it's tight but it can be done I'm doing it

@@Brian-fo8sh that odd angle is what gets you, just because they stuck one bolt under the pulley
Thank you sir. You save me a lot of money . ❤

If it comes back when you ease off the throttle then it’s probably fuel pump, needs a pressure gauge where you can monitor under load

Was there a specific reason why you replaced the valve covers????
I didn’t replace the whole cover, just the gaskets, they were leaking
thanks for the warning everyone said 10mm for the valve cover bolt but they are wrong.
