Yes, Kemper definitely came 1st but for the money the Ampero takes the cake followed closely by the helix/pod go. Thanks for making these and have a great week Leo!
My 1st conclusion after this video: the IR is the most important thing. My 2nd: Leo’s IRs are outstanding; even the real SLO sounds better with his IR. 3rd: Leo can tweak a modeler as good as anyone I’ve heard.

Thank you, really appreciated!!! I'm very happy that you appreciated the video!!!! Yes, I will do something similar in the future....I needed to take some break from that format...😊.... Thank you!!!
To my surprise, one of the least similar is the Fractal. The funny thing is that the sonic character of the original is there in all the units, and any capable guitar player can get something really good out of them.
Love how you analyzed the comments from your viewers and showed the results. Im sure hard work and time to do. Thank you for this extra work. Earned a sub. Keep it up 👍
Great series of comparison videos! I think the format you used was perfect. The Kemper was the only Modeler that faithfully reproduced the Soldano sound. I was surprised by how well the Ampero sounded. This was a fun series to watch, and very informative. Like the real Soldano, your videos are absolutely amazing. Thanks
What an amazing video. I am currently waiting for the Nux MG-30 to come out to see if it might be a good replacement for my Boss GT-1, but boy... that Ampero sounds nice! Good times for guitarists indeed. Here's to wishing you 2021% more subscribers! :-)

One more thing: I just can't wait to see you get your hands on the new Quad Cortex and compare it to the winner of this test, the Kemper. If everything goes well, this should be the first time since Kemper came out that it really faces hard competition. I can't wait. All the best for you.

Thank you, Leo. I own the Ampero and the Nux. For the price, I think they are both great units. The NUX would be the perfect little travel unit if it had a battery option. I would love to see you do a tutorial series on getting tone from modelers.

Your videos are excellent! They must take a lot of time to make, so thank you for sharing them with us! The Helix sounds *really* close, especially impressive since it's a modeler, not a profiler. IMO it sounds closer than the Kemper -- the frequency response of the Kemper does not match the real amp + IR as closely as the Helix in this comparison. I'm surprised the FM3 is so far off from the rest -- it's lacking the character of the real amp. It almost sounds like it's being run through both a cab model and an IR, instead of the IR by itself.
Hi thank you! Yes, these videos take a lot of time...but your response and enjoyment of these videos really push me forward! Thank you for sharing your opinion!
I'll be honest, I strongly disliked the sound of the FM3 I had to mess with for a while. After learning how to walk on eggshells around the weaknesses, and doing more EQ than I ought to, i came to the conclusion that I just like Line 6's Helix stuff better.
Amazingly useful video - thank you so much! I *love* the detail of your comparison videos, and your playing is fantastic as well. Enthusiastically subscribed!
What a relief for a Helix user. Non of them sounded useless though. Maybe Headrush. So muddy. Surprized how different the Fractal sounded from the real thing even with the same IR. I was actually cheering for the Fractal even as a Helix user. lol
+1 A truly encyclopedic device overview and great comparison! After reviewing all your videos, I stopped at the Nux-300, because I am an amateur, not a pro))) The order is on the way! Thank you!
Very well done video. I love your modest way and your great playing. Thx for going through the effort of putting this together. It must have been a lot of work. I am surprised that in the end the Ampero wins and actually also for my ear is the best one outside the Kemper. I don't like the sizzle that all those modelers create in the high frequencies. To me it takes aways the focus if somehow there is always this kind of white noise sound in the background that seems to come from the model clipping. Interestingly even the real Soldano does this. Also very surprising that the so much praised FM3 sounds so different. It sounds great but as you described not like the real thing.
I dont know how to thank you.. You saved my wallet. I was close to buying Headrush Pedalbord, but not after I heard this. Thats for sure. Harley Benton DNA actually surprised me in sound quality. AGAIN AGAIN Harley benton made it to the top. Most amp sims sounded similar. Most of them sounded great. I didnt like any of the GM pedalbord series sounds, I absolutely hated the headrush, and Fractal FM was also way off the original amp in sound, but it sounded kinda cool in a way.. It sounded very heavy, even tho it sounded different it didnt sound bad in my opinion. Well thank you. You realy saved my wallet.
Wow I am quite disappointed about modelers in this case. Soldano sounds so massive with so nice top freq end and gain structure it sounds like 3D (I do not know hot to explain it). It has separated nice low freq bottom. Modelers are not very close in this case and sounds flat. Thank you Leo, great as always.
Amazing Comparison. You are a serious and believable person and the SLO Video Series was absolutely neutral. Thank you for this. But i have a little problem with the result, because i sold my Kemper a few weaks ago and now i am on the waiting List for the FM3 ;-) Anyway..... I am looking for your following comparisons, what ever you choose. Maybe next Time the FM3 will win the Contest and than i can be a little bit more happy with my decision. Hey man...... It would be very interesting to know, if the amp modeler be more close to the real amps, when you have a cheap amp instead of a High End Boutique amp. Perhaps the Modeler will have a better sound than the original because of more options in the settings?
Hi Thomas, the FM3 is a great unit...I love it...I've learnt a lot about it from the FM3...it needs to be tweaked ... but it can give outstanding results. Maybe a less expensive unit can be easier to imitate, this SOLDANO has really a great representation of the whole spectrum of frequencies (in my opinion) and it is pretty hard to be imitated. Thank you!
What a fantastic video!! And I agree with everything you said! If you can do a video like this for Fender, Marshall, Vox and mesa wow!! that would be just amazing. BTW, surprised the headrush sounded so bad. I just ordered a Pod Go and was very happy with how it sounded here. I had the same feeling that it was very close to the ampero, but the ampero was just slightly better it seems, although still the pod go very good.
After i watched the video, i bought 3 (three) valeton (9 blocks) and chain them together . . . that's all i can afford, but have 3 x 9 = 27 blocks to play with ! !
Helix is surprisingly close, Kemper is excellent as always. Fractal is disappointing and it always has that mid hump that i dont like. Fanbois will always disagree and thats fine. Really looking forward to seeing Quad Cortex joining the competition.
I’m my opinion, the best way to get closer to the Soldano (or any unique sounding amp), is not to use a pre-programmed modeling effect, but to use a profiler and dial it in yourself. Such as Neural DSP Quad Cortex. You can also get really close with a GT-1000, or even a ME-80, dialing it in manually.
Exquisite video Leo😊👏👏👏 loved it, For me Kemper still stands out to be first, sounds tight and rich, 2nd for me is the Helix, Ampero and fm3 with a bit of tweeking on EQ would sound close. Please make a review on the Helix new firmware update 3.0
Your accent is difficult for me. Yet I don’t think I have found any gear videos nearly as useful and as yours. Plus you playing and song writing are very, very good. I don’t like wasting time. Excellent content from a seasoned musician with a abundance of knowledge👍
Thank you Joel, I'm really happy that you enjoy the video and that you like my music! When you like my music I'm really happy!!!! And thank you for your patience with my accent!
I say the comments are biased.... Most would vote for the unit they own... But the SLO amp is a well modelled amp and would be happy with any modeller if the SLO was my goto amp. Great summary!
On this video of 150-200$€ amp modelers, i'm gonna have to say the Valeton GP-100 sounds the closest to the actual Soldano amp. It's simply because on the previous video you were using 'Solo100 OD' where it lacks gain, & on this video you were using 'Solo100 LD' preset on the GP-100 & it sounds good imo. :D
Great job, Leo.... Assolutamente eccellente. Please don't forget to do the same for the EVH amp. I can't wait ti know what low price pedalboard can achieve that Brown sound. Thumbs up for you
Thank you Antonio!! I have to do it...but now I need some weeks of break .... 😊 after four videos like this, I need to do something else 😊 Thank you for your patience!!!
Hi Daniel, thank you for sharing your opinion. The Helix sounds really good, but in my opinion the Kemper better represents the real deal. Thank you for your message!
I have no idea how you guys can say the Kemper sounds closer to the real deal than the Helix does. I literally went back and forth dozens of times using the timestamps between real Soldano - Kemper and real Soldano - Helix and I swear the Helix sounds the closest. This is it in all honesty, I don't even have a modeler cause I still prefer the real stuff.
@@SurdeInglaterr I've never tried that much any modeler to say it sucks; I base my opinion on this and other similar videos. Now my question is: are you saying helix sucks just because you've heard this opinion from somebody else or because you've tried it enough and you've come to this conclusion by yourself?
Wow..i thought the ampero and the valeton sound similar and the best. But i like some of the features on the NuX pedals and Zoom. Ive heard the real amp's so I feel you're video is very accurate. But I think the valeton ...though cheap...sounds as good as the ampero. Zoom and others have live settings and different studio settings for running thru an app or just a PA.
Hi Leo. Thanks once again for your videos they are really well produced and nice to watch. According to your last comments in the video, what I understand is that actually majority of the units are capable of reproducing close to the real amps depending on how they are set up or how good the IR is. With correct adjustments or Tone Capture (for Kemper or Mooer) all units seem to be satisfying which leads me to the biggest question which I think is the missing part in your videos; Which unit feels more real while playing? Or which unit responds more naturally to your playing. Of course, this is something that only you can tell us as you tested all of them. To me, this is the most important feature for any digital pedal which makes the price negligible. Cheers!!!
Hi, I see what you mean. Let me just say that I did few videos about the feel in my channel and in my opinion they are effective when you test no more than 2 units vs the real deal. Otherwise it's gonna become a mess, both for me trying to match the sounds, but I think also for you. Actually I use two format: the one in this video when I want to compare many modelers and the head to head vs the real amp if I want to make something more oriented to sound match and "feel" (this is an example : ruclips.net/video/dCOoxrkCm5M/видео.html). As regards profiles, I'm planning a video comparing the Mooer profile of the Soldano vs the Kemper... Thank you for your message and for sharing your opinion!!!
I had the Valeton, the reverbs all had a background wash that I couldn’t get rid of. Sounded like the same algorithm. I couldn’t see past it and sold it.
I have now played all of the expensive units and one thing I can share is that the Kemper is the only one that feels like a real amp. This is something that is not talked about enough in these videos on the internet. So the Kemper is the clear winner of all of these units.
Todos me suenan igual Para mi todos lo han logrado. Eso es genial Ya que así puedes ir por tu marca favorita, ya sea por identificarte con la apariencia multiefecto o por lo que ofrezca.
Can't argue with the amount of research that went into this and the results. Kemper hands-down winner, and great sounds by Helix & Ampero. Even though I love FM3 and GT 1000, they do not do Soldano justice at the Kemper level (maybe if you tweak them forever). Thanks for the science!
@@LeoGibsonGtr Hello Leo. That is why I still have my Pod x3. It has a Soldano model. It may be old modeling technology, but it still sounds pretty good. None of my Boss devices have Soldano. I was hoping the FM3 Soldano was better since I am on the waiting list for it.
Hi, I also think that it is a pity that BOSS does not make Soldano simulation. The FM 3 is great unit...you need o tweak it...but after an initial learning curve, I'm sure you will be happy! Thank you!!!
I tried the pod go for crunchy sounds - unfortunately a big disappointment. Very harsh and lifeless sounds. Presets with a lot of gain can all devices. But clean and *crunch* is the real challenge. For me 1) Kemper and then 2) the big surprise nux-MG300 (simple, cheap and really good).
Thanks a lot!!! It's a profile I did of the Soldano...I'm working on a complete set of Soldano profiles and then I'm gonna sell them...Please stay tuned!!! Thank you!

Amoero makes me wonder. Also i miss the GE Labs own IR engine capture comparison. To me the GE 150 sound different and-closer to the original than the GE 300, which reinforces my curiosity.
Hi Leo, first of all your videos and songs are very amazing. I have a two questions. These "bass frequencies" (punch) that we hear in the "palm mute" technique, are simulated very well only in Kemper, as you said. 1. Do you think Ampero can simulate this "punch" with the help of an external equalizer pedal? Or would it sound artificial? 2. O Do you think Ampero Stomp (which is not here) can simulate this punch closer to Kemper? 😊😊😊😊
Hi, thank you, I'm super happy that you like the videos and the songs!!! The Stomp is not in the video as it was not yet available at the moment of the video. Eq can help, even if we enter in a difficult territory, as the level of eq depends from my ears, that are different from yours...nevertheless for sure you can get closer. Thank you once more
It's a real shame the fm3 doesn't have the tone match block like it's big brother the axefx 3. I have the 3 and a real soldano and if you tone match and tweak the speaker tab it beats all of this stuff. I had a Kemper too but it found a new home after I got an axe3.
The real soldano has a lot more bottom end frequencies, in a pleasing way. Imo modelers are OK for live performance, for the studio none of them touch the amp and it isn't even close...
Meglio di così non si potrebbe pretendere. Complimenti... 😂😂
Hi Sergio, thank you for the compliments that really make me happy! I've reamp the riff....It would be impossible to play the same riff with the same dynamics and in the same way all these times.... Thank you!
Hi Sergio, sorry, I don't think any time soon. The Ampero is not new and I think a video like that would not get many views as there are already many videos about it. Maybe in the future. Thank you for your patience!
Hi Leo. Great as always. I'm sorry if I missed this in the video but which IR of yours did you use? I bought your IR pack so I'm curious of which one it was. If you want to sell your Soldano Helix patch, I'll buy that too.
Hi Dean, thank you so much for buying my IRs, I really appreciate it and I hope you are enjoying them. In this video I was using the Celestion Vintage 30 IR. As regards the patches, currently they are not available. I'm working on some profiles for the Kemper and the Mooer GE pedalboards...maybe I will work also on some patches. Thank you for your interest! Thank you once more!
Thanks for the review! But, don't get me wrong, I think that profiling your amp with the Kemper was unfair for the other competitors. At least, the Mooer GE300 has profiling capability, as you mentioned it. But you tweaked only the Kemper by making an exact profile of your rig, and you didn't tweak other units. You just relied on number values of knobs. In these conditions, it looks like using some (not your) profile for the Kemper would be more fair for the competitors. Thus, I only have learnt once again how good Kemper's profiling on your own rig is . But that didn't make the Kemper the winner for me in this competition. Many guitar players will not ever have a chance to play on the real Soldano. They have to rely on profiles, which are tailored by someone else, including Kemper users. In these conditions, it's not evident that they will have good results with Soldano profiles on the Kemper. Anyway, I agree with your opinion about other units compared to the real Soldano with the same knob values. But, it's true only for this particular amp (as you did say) and these knob values with this IR which you used. There are many other conditions that can change anything in the final results.
What about the boss GT-1000? For me still the only unit which comes close to the real amps in the high frequency. My Kemper and Fractal Units always are too dark and compressed in comparison to the real thing. The Gt-1000 works the best for me right now!
Hi, thank you!! Well, playing 2 guitars maybe you are hearing the slight difference in timing that gives a little bit of chorus effect. Thank you for your message!
Hi, that's because I was not able to find a Soldano SLO 100 model in the G11...maybe I'm wrong....but if it is present, it's not clear which is its name. Thank you for your message!
Leo: how do you explain that one of the more expensive units, the FM3, stands out as the one that doesn't sound like the original? Did they screw up the model or what? To my ears it can only be a mistake...
Hi Antonio, there few factor to take into consideration: 1) in my opinion the FM3 was among the more pleasing to my hear even if not exactly equal to the real deal 2) In the video I set the modeler with the exact same setting of the amp, and, as I said, the FM3 has tons of parameter to tweak, so even if the starting point could be different from the real amp, if you spend time learning the knobs and tweacking the sound, you can get closer to the real amp 3) there could be a difference in the specific Soldano amp that Fractal has modeled I hope this help Thank you!
I love watching Leo, it comes across that he really loves what he is doing.

To my surprise, one of the least similar is the Fractal. The funny thing is that the sonic character of the original is there in all the units, and any capable guitar player can get something really good out of them.
Hi Gonzalo, thank you for sharing your opinion. Yes, all the units are performing pretty well, even if the low bdg shows some limitations.
Thank you!
Great work once again Leo. Can't wait to see/hear what you do next (Bogner Uberschall/Diezel maybe)! God bless and rock on 😎🎸👍

Grande Leo i tuoi video sono fantastici!!! complimenti!!!!

Hi Nico, than you so much, I'm really happy that you enjoyed the video!!! Thank you also for sharing your opinion and of course I wish the best for 2021!!!
I got tired for waiting for the Nux and purchased the PodGo...GLAD I DID
@@runnningonempty I hear you. I opted for the Mooer GE300Lite b/c of the ability to load profiles and the amount of footswitches. ;-)
One more thing: I just can't wait to see you get your hands on the new Quad Cortex and compare it to the winner of this test, the Kemper. If everything goes well, this should be the first time since Kemper came out that it really faces hard competition. I can't wait. All the best for you.
Hi, I totally agree with you...I can't wait to get my Quad Cortex...😊
Titanic work, Leo! Now it's time to compare Kemper and MNRS profiles! Hahaha... Keep it up, friend, your vids are outstanding!

@@LeoGibsonGtr, of course, I know that vid... It was really useful for me when I was trying to know if my results with iPad profiling where more or less in the ballpark of Kemper's quality. Now I was just taking advantage of your Soldano vid series to push you into a different amp comparison... Hehehe
😊...I see!!! Maybe I will do it again in the next week! Thank you!
Thank you, Leo. I own the Ampero and the Nux. For the price, I think they are both great units. The NUX would be the perfect little travel unit if it had a battery option. I would love to see you do a tutorial series on getting tone from modelers.
Hi Dave, you are welcome!!! I have few videos in the pipeline, maybe during the Christmas holiday I will be able to make what you are asking. Thank you for your suggestion!
Which one you think it's the best ? i owned the NUX, resold it, hesitate to buy the ampero !
Just buy a powerbank and USB 9V converter cable and youre good to go. Thats how I power mine and I can now take it anywhere.
Just came across your channel and now a new subscriber. I really enjoy your videos and will be going back to view your previous posts. I received the Pod Go as a birthday present recently so was searching for information on the unit and came across your video. Haven't had the chance to really put the pedal through it's paces.

Thank you, really appreciated, your feedback and support is super important for me!!!
Thank you Jonny, I'm really happy that you like the video, your feedback and sub really means a lot to me!
As always, Great video, Leo! Thanks for your effort

Thank you!
Thank you, these are all great compliments!!!!
Thank you also for sharing your final decision!
Thank you so much, I'm really happy that you like the video!
Than you also for sharing your findings!!

Hi Jack, I'm really happy to have been of some help! Thank you for letting me know!!!
Awesome Leo !!! Thank you ,,, Kemper and Ampero sound great !

EPIC! Wow Line6 is the closest
Thank you!!!
Thank you! Yes, the soldano has really an amazing representation of the whole spectrum of frequencies...
Amazing Comparison. You are a serious and believable person and the SLO Video Series was absolutely neutral. Thank you for this. But i have a little problem with the result, because i sold my Kemper a few weaks ago and now i am on the waiting List for the FM3 ;-)
Anyway.....
Thank you!
Thanks for your great reviews!
You are more than welcome! I'm happy that you enjoy the video!
Hi Nicolas, thank you so much, I'm really happy that you liked the video!!!
Thank you also for sharing your opinion!
After i watched the video, i bought 3 (three) valeton (9 blocks) and chain them together . . . that's all i can afford, but have 3 x 9 = 27 blocks to play with ! !
Nice solution! 😀👍
Helix is surprisingly close, Kemper is excellent as always. Fractal is disappointing and it always has that mid hump that i dont like. Fanbois will always disagree and thats fine. Really looking forward to seeing Quad Cortex joining the competition.
Hi, thank you for sharing!
I have a pre ordered unit, so I should among the first to receive my Quad Cortex ... stay tuned...😊
Nice video comparison.
The closest :
1. Kemper
2. Helix
3. Pod go
Hi, thank you for the compliments and for sharing your opinions!!!
Exquisite video Leo😊👏👏👏 loved it,
For me Kemper still stands out to be first, sounds tight and rich, 2nd for me is the Helix, Ampero and fm3 with a bit of tweeking on EQ would sound close.
Please make a review on the Helix new firmware update 3.0
Hi, thank you so much!!! I'll try to do my best as regards the Helix...even if I've few other videos in the pipeline...thank you for your suggestion.
The sound of the palm muting reveals how close it sounds to the real amp. The mooer, ampero and kemper sounded pretty good to me.
Hi, thank you for sharing your opinion!
Hi, thank you!
Yes but overall the Valeton GP-100 is the poorest performer overall Jas.
Great job, Leo....
Assolutamente eccellente.
Please don't forget to do the same for the EVH amp.
I can't wait ti know what low price pedalboard can achieve that Brown sound.
Thumbs up for you
Thank you Antonio!!
I have to do it...but now I need some weeks of break .... 😊 after four videos like this, I need to do something else 😊
Thank you for your patience!!!
I thought the Helix was one of the closest, even more so than the Kemper.
Helix sucks man get real
@@SurdeInglaterr I've never tried that much any modeler to say it sucks; I base my opinion on this and other similar videos. Now my question is: are you saying helix sucks just because you've heard this opinion from somebody else or because you've tried it enough and you've come to this conclusion by yourself?
@@Maysha6bona He probably heard it from someone else then,, maybe that is why he didnt respond to ur question huh ?
Very true indeed

Wow..i thought the ampero and the valeton sound similar and the best. But i like some of the features on the NuX pedals and Zoom.
Ive heard the real amp's so I feel you're video is very accurate. But I think the valeton ...though cheap...sounds as good as the ampero. Zoom and others have live settings and different studio settings for running thru an app or just a PA.
Hi Miko, thank you for sharing your opinion!

I have now played all of the expensive units and one thing I can share is that the Kemper is the only one that feels like a real amp. This is something that is not talked about enough in these videos on the internet. So the Kemper is the clear winner of all of these units.

Can't argue with the amount of research that went into this and the results. Kemper hands-down winner, and great sounds by Helix & Ampero. Even though I love FM3 and GT 1000, they do not do Soldano justice at the Kemper level (maybe if you tweak them forever). Thanks for the science!
Thank you, really appreciated!!! Unfortunately the GT 1000 does not have a Soldano simulation...it's a pity!

Didn't expect that FM3 not the best. Ampero is still a reason to be proud.

Great video always,But I hope you can make a clean amp between those unit
Hi, thank you! You are right...I should do something also about clean amps...thank you for your suggestion!

Amoero makes me wonder. Also i miss the GE Labs own IR engine capture comparison. To me the GE 150 sound different and-closer to the original than the GE 300, which reinforces my curiosity.
Thank you for sharing!
I totally agree. Its not fair that the kemper uses a captured profile when the ge300 does not.

Yes, I do agree, the tone match would be a great option to have also in the FM3...Thank you for your message!
The real soldano has a lot more bottom end frequencies, in a pleasing way. Imo modelers are OK for live performance, for the studio none of them touch the amp and it isn't even close...
Hi, thank you for sharing your opinion!!! I do agree, the Soldano is capable of representing the whole spectrum of frequencies in a very pleasing way.
Meglio di così non si potrebbe pretendere. Complimenti... 😂😂
Hi Sergio, thank you for the compliments that really make me happy! I've reamp the riff....It would be impossible to play the same riff with the same dynamics and in the same way all these times....
Thank you!

AMPERO ALL THE WAY !!!
ok, thank you for sharing!
Ampero and Helix are the only ones who sound anywhere close to the Soldano and they are not even that close.
Thank you for sharing your opinion!
Ampero and Kemper are the most similar to the real Soldano👍
Hi, thank you for sharing your opinion!
Kemper is invincible in this format. Maybe the quad cortex will challenge it, but for now, kemper is the closest one.
Hi Alessandro, thank you for sharing your opinion!
What about the boss GT-1000? For me still the only unit which comes close to the real amps in the high frequency. My Kemper and Fractal Units always are too dark and compressed in comparison to the real thing. The Gt-1000 works the best for me right now!
Hi, unfortunatelly the GT 1000 does not have a SOLDANO simulation.
Thank you for sharing your opinion!
great video man, is your guitar slightly out of tune or is it my ears?
Hi, thank you!! Well, playing 2 guitars maybe you are hearing the slight difference in timing that gives a little bit of chorus effect.
Thank you for your message!

Leo: how do you explain that one of the more expensive units, the FM3, stands out as the one that doesn't sound like the original?
Did they screw up the model or what? To my ears it can only be a mistake...
Hi Antonio, there few factor to take into consideration:
1) in my opinion the FM3 was among the more pleasing to my hear even if not exactly equal to the real deal
2) In the video I set the modeler with the exact same setting of the amp, and, as I said, the FM3 has tons of parameter to tweak, so even if the starting point could be different from the real amp, if you spend time learning the knobs and tweacking the sound, you can get closer to the real amp
3) there could be a difference in the specific Soldano amp that Fractal has modeled
I hope this help
Thank you!
