One other addition, though not mentioned, Malf has a 20% bonus on Taken. Lesser known, is that it has a 20% bonus on targets hit with Witherhord, these bonuses stack with each other and Vorpal, and this interaction is intended and not a bug per Bungie. So for something like Sedia it'll slap slap.
yes ive seen a lot of ppl saying that witherhoard marks targets as taken but that isnt true witherhoard applies the blighted debuff, this buffs malfeasance touch of malice also applies blighted and it also buffs malfeasance essentially all taken weapons (all 3 of them) have this interaction either they apply blighted or get boosted by blighted i will be very surprised if the next taken weapon doesnt use these debuffs in some way, taken predator is a entirely separatedly thing and is exclusive to malfeasance
also whisper despite looking like a taken weapon isnt actually one its coded as its own thing

I used it to absolutely decimate everything in the hypernet current last season. When I end up doing the corrupted I will likely use it there too
Don't forget that Hand Cannons are getting a PvE buff against red-bars and majors. If the buff manages to affect Malfeasance's explosive slugs, it will absolutely CHUNK them. Even if it doesn't, the amount of bonus damage from the straight shots still will put in work, making it at least valuable to get within it's effective range.
For hunters with Lucky Pants, there is nothing better. I adore this gun.

Still crazy how underutilized it is. I didn’t feel like using malfeasance until very recently, and once I did I instantly slapped on lucky pants and fell in love
Crimson is pretty good because it ramps up more quickly and heals you. I also have a pretty good Lucky Pants build with Sunshot that kills everything on any content and gives you constant Restoration and Radiant. With the HC buff coming, Hunters will finally become the gunslingers they are meant to be

Seeing the real damage this does to the Primeval with lucky pants is always satisfying
Literally every time I run gambit with Malf/Lucky, I ALWAYS end up with 45%+ damage. It's great.
Worth remembering that malfeasence also stuns unstoppable champs with the explosions, and also does more dmg to taken enemies, or enemies tagged with a witerhoard shot
Yes, but if you have on lucky pants you're wasting shots to stun the unstoppable, and you're not going to be able to dish out max damage by the time the buff runs out. It's better to wait a second, shoot one shot, then lay into the champ
@@oryxfirstnavigator4795you mean unstoppables. Even so, you can kill a champ on master after the explosion stun with a single mag before he recovers from the stun using lucky pants. Assuming you reloaded beforehand

You can stun on shot 5, building damage stacks before stunning so you can burn it more consistently while the damage boost is up. I haven't compared both methods, but using 1.5 out of 5.5 seconds of damage boost feels like a waste.
also something to consider is if you are using lucky pants with malfeasance and an lmg then you can always be dishing out constant high damage. When you are not out of luck you melt things with malfeasance and burst down targets, when out of luck you have an lmg that also functions as a primary. Pair this with a fusion or whatever weapon depending on the champs and its a solid combo.
FYI the 25% buff from Witherhoard, 25% buff for Taken enemies, and 20% bonus from Vorpal Weapon all stack multiplicatively for an 87.5% damage bonus.

@@Demon-nu7ht some ppl thought Witherhoard made the enemies count as taken, but it doesn’t. Witherhoard just applies a debuff called “blighted.” It is a separate effect and does n fact stack when on a taken enemy.
The kills go by pretty fast, the explosions can kill nearby enemies which really speeds it up.
The two best hunter subclasses for the Lucky Pants build are:
1) Strand, because there really aren't many other spectacular choices for exotic armor (unless quickswapping to Star Eaters)
2) Solar, if you are willing to forego using YAS just for the Radiant buff to assist the massive Malf damage. Plus, if you are maximising the damage with Kinetic surge, the mods can also boost Golden Gun.

One thing that was not mentioned is that hand cannons are going to get. 75% damage buff to at least orange bars in the near future. This buff will likely apply to malfeasance and make it even better
I’m hoping Thorn receives a catalyst similar to malfeasance, it’s usage rate is pretty low. Hopefully after the buff we will see it more often

@@bofa722 I don’t want them to go with strand; the reason being is you can pair it with the stasis subclass. There’s this fragment that allows you to do increased primary kinetic damage when enemies are frozen (I think it’s a 40% increased damage bonus, could be wrong though). But then, paired with the 75% bonus we are getting to hand cannons, this will be nasty af! I’ve been using quicksilver storm and it wrecks havoc.

The legendary alternative to lucky pants malfeasance tends to be a seventh seraph officer revolver with reconstruction and vorpal. Not as strong of course, but it frees up that exotic slot and puts in similar amounts of work given malfeasance's explosion effect doesn't scale on lucky pants. Still beats out other exotic options too, I run it almost exclusively on my strand hunter setup. But if you're fighting taken or someone on your team is witherhoarding enemies, to max your gains, you're gunna want to be glued to malfeasance.
I’ve had the Malfeasance quest in my inventory since Forsaken and I just got the weapon last season. Clearly I really love Gambit.
I literally did the same thing. Quest was active for years and finally got it last season as well. I got lucky that a random teammate cleared the opposing team in gambit three times in one game

@@michaelmckinley6023 it can be cumulative! I believe the quest step is either you get a four kill invasion once or a teammate does it three times
Additional tip: Once your "Out of Luck" timer is gone, you don't have to swap off and back onto Malfeasance. Simply pulling out and dismissing your Ghost will reactivate the Lucky Pants buff.
This also works to proc the buff while having Mori active on Ace
Man this is a SUPER old build.. i was using this combo in Witch Queen 😂 pair it with solar and its SO MUCH better than strand
Isn't it great that catalyst for the the Gambit hand cannon can be acquired outside of the game mode it was more or less designed for
I never used malfeasance until this season, and it became one of my favorite exotics overnight
I personally like Malfeasance for Gambit for using on Invaders and when the Boss/Envoys pop up. Bonus damage against Taken and Invaders is always good for that.
Keep in mind that a lot of these clips were against Taken, which Malfeasance intrinsically deals 25% extra damage to via its exotic perk
Also it has intrinsic Unstoppable, which is nice

fun fact: if you stick a taken enemy with witherhoard, they take even more damage so you get the bonus damage on taken enemy and the bonus damage from the witherhoard interaction.

It can also double-stun champions if you don't use the seasonal mod. The 5x explosions stun Unstoppables, and if you have Radiant or are in a Well then you can shoot through Barrier shields
I'd been using the Malf + Lucky Pants combo since they changed Lucky Pants. When D2 released, it was my favourite exotic, despite not being good at all. Now that they've given Malf a catalyst, it's definitely a plus, but Malf has been putting in the work since they changed Lucky Pants. Hands down the best hand cannon to use with that exotic.

Legit, the easiest place to get the Catalyst done for this is Alter of Sorrows. I did 4 full runs and had the Catalyst completed

This video feels like a Lucky Pants video that should have been made a long-ass time ago, but Datto forgot to publish it. Then the Malfeasance catalyst came out, and it was remade to this. Hunters have been using Lucky Pants since the buff plenty.
Malfeasance also gets bonus damage in Gambit, even against invading players. I know a lot of people don't play Gambit but I still bang out at least 3 games a week.
been spamming playlist strikes to get this Cat and Centrifuse cat. Started at 0 for centrifuse and currently at 176/200 and still no Mal cat lol.
Lucky Pants are also incredible with Crimson. I've been rocking that routinely when I play Hunter since the exotic's update.

I would unironically love a season where the Witness disabled all Heavy and Special ammo or something like that. That seems like it'd shake things up quite a bit and have the elite players actually try some more fun weapons over the more clinical options they always cling to.
Double special is fun as all get out and I would uninstall if this happened unless it was sold to me much better than you just did.
Crimson slaps with lucky pants as well, same with the seraph revolver with reconstruction
Sturm is also a really interesting hand cannon to run with Lucky Pants, it allows you to run a solar weapon which can benefit in keeping restoration and radiant running while getting kills you give Sturm good amounts of damage and overflows the magazine, perfect for lucky pants solar subclass, but one problem, it doesn't work.
luckypants is my favorite exotic in the game, my hunter almost never takes them off.

That lucky pants build goes EPSECIALLY hard on raid bosses if you throw in the god roll crafted Apex Predator + a kinetic loader mod or two
Bredda you can use a machine gun and this gun with lucky pants, Out of luck switch to machine gun then back and so on. Wishender also exists for non hunters.

Hey Datto I think you are forgetting that this next season Hand Cannon's are getting another buff vs Orange health bar and Boss type enemies, I personally think it's going to push Malfeasance + Lucky Pants over the top when compared to most Heavy Weapons
even in seasons without unstoppable hc in the artifact, the slug explosions stun unstoppables baseline
Well count me in as a Malf enthusiast. Ever since discovering the Lucky Pants proc, I’ve basically mained it for most of the past 3 seasons, def on my Hunter but (just because I love using it) often on my Warlock and Titan as well. Catalyst increase in Range is where I feel it’s the most useful. 20 x 180 shots, High range, Taken buff, it’s simply one of the best and most useful primaries out there at the moment.
I love seeing my favorite gun get some love. I’m gonna cry when Destiny 2 ends, because I know they won’t add this back in D3

Mix it with Stasis or Strand and it's hilarious for most content to brighten your day.
Crimson in the right setting is also excellent with Lucky Pants as it hits 600% a lot quicker as each of the triple shots count individually

love rolling this with strand spectre marksman dodge and a discord shotgun - not very useful in upper tier content but its very fun
so you tried crimson with lucky pants? each of its shots stack lucky pants damage bonus. by the 2nd shot youre at max damage.
Been using this combo ever since I got Malfeasance back in the day. It's crazy how long people slept on it. Even without Vorpal, it would shred through yellow bars and cost you nothing. Dump the mag, reload, swap to heavy, swap back when the cool down is over. Easy bosses.
Same, although I normally hate running my hunter, this build is what kept me on the class for so long.

just want to add that Malfeasance (even without Lucky Pants) is INCREDIBLY strong for targets without crit spots, like Brigs and the shank miniboss in Grasp of Avarice. Do you really want to spend 5mins plinking that shank between damage phases or do you want to absolutely destroy him in seconds.
I love the Malfy.... 20 rounds... Bonus against the Taken. I'm in the Catalyst grind right now. I used it to beat Calus.... Sweet. Ya Im a Hunter Main.
I know I will sound like a nerd but you have to remember that malfeasance does extra damage to taken. To the tests on the champions in the lost sectors are not as accurate because of that perk
Stupid fun. The ability to build around a gun is awesome, reminiscent of Striga + Necrotics in terms of a build where you get to spend most of your time shooting rather than focusing on abilities and it actually feels *good*. Can run Solar with Radiant + Healing 'nades to have fun, and I'm honestly excited to see more and more weapons get Discord (imagine a fusion with Discord + Resi Burst.....) to pair with it. Last Man Standing with Pugilist + Discord makes for fun times.
Malfeasance is really good for boss damage especially on hunters, mainly as a im low on heavy or don’t wanna waste time to reload weapon. In kings fall it works really good especially on oryx it makes quick work of the taken/bomb knights/ogres so you can save heavy for oryx and if you run out of heavy during damage somehow the gun also rips bosses
Boomer Datto forgets the synergy with Witherhoard and Taken. That's unfortunate, especially since he's afraid of missing important stuff. Unlucky. Not wearing some lucky pants while making this video i guess.

5:11 It combines well with Lucky Pants. They have great synergy with Vorpal Weapon, and the high fire rate means it's easy to hit Lucky Pants' maximum additional hand cannon threshhold.

About the sub class options Other notable examples are
void for weaken tho weaken doesn’t do as much damage as radiant (or wut I’m about to talk about) if u want a lucky pants invis build then yeah it’s not a bad option
And stasis and I’m saying this now it is the best for damage with malfeasance. Now “why stasis of all things?” Because of one simple fragment: whisper of rending. While frozen a target will take more damage. FYI this is not a small damage buff in any way. It’s from wut I researched a 43% buff to frozen targets (for some reason the link won’t work but u can look up urself if u want) while in comparison to weaken which is a 15% buff and radiant is a 20% buff.
Now it is up to person to person. Void is gud for its invis, radiant is more consistent and has a better damaging super, strand for suspend which gives free headshots, and stasis for whisper of rending.
In conclusion unless an absolutely bonkers arc hand cannon comes out arc is trash for lucky pants.
It's actually great for boss damage if you pair it with someone that has witherhoard, as it gets a 20% bonus against witherhoard hit targets and taken targets (stacking with each other).
if you want to deal with champions on hunter w/o using power ammo... just one two punch them. Weighted throwing knife, combination blow both do WORK here. and they can be incorporated relatively well into usable builds. you still have a shotgun on you which will probably be wastelander m5 so you'll have the lightweight frame mobility boost, you'll have a gun that can still deal with majors efficiently if you find yourself in a sticky situation. you can still have a nice ammo economy with double special. and an exotic slot. both solar and arc hunter have easy anti unstop on subclass keyworks. this, forebearance and gally will get you through most gm's without having to suffer through using a hand cannon. you still have your exotic slot open, so you can either recoup some of that survivability (assasin's cowl) lost with using a melee based anti champ setup or get bonus utility (aeons). with witherhoard and on taken bosses, though? malfeasance can BAKE
This will be BROKEN for gambit pimevals, and invaders. And 180s have the BEST pve hand cannon damage.
4:45 Bungie will (should ?) 100% works on that. constant availability dor am heavy isn't normal....
After the hand cannon buffs, this thing is gonna go from strong to absolutely busted
The catalyst drop rate HAS to be bugged for me.
I have every catalyst in the game, finished.
This one has not dropped after running strikes, gambit, and crucible this entire season. I finished the Centrifuge catalyst while running playlist activities and it STILL has not dropped.
This has never happened for any other catalyst for me. I’m convinced something is wrong here.
Short answer: yes. I used this on our Lightblade GM runs and it freaking melts the boss. 40-50K plus damage per mag, depending on content.
3 Mistakes this video has:
1. Too early, next season will see hand cannon buffs that may even affect explosive damage.
2. Campared different guns against taken enemies which malefeadance does extra damage to.
3. Datto didnt proc Memento Mori.

I'm one of those people that WANTS Malf, but I'm not the player I used to be and to get the gun hear you have to either git gud and slap your girthy light across an opposing Gambit team's faces... or rely on a teammate to do so a few times. Neither sounds within my wheelhouse of ability or track record of luck, respectively speaking.

8:27 strange comparison since ace and fatebringer are 140's while malfy is a 180. Simply by the way lucky pants work, higher rate of fire handcannons are just better with them.
Don't take this the wrong way, but I am not sure I would have hidden "this is a Malfeasance/Lucky Pants video" behind "w/ This Exotic" in the title and five minutes of exposition on Malfeasance on its own. That combo has been around a long time, and I went into the video hoping you had something different than the same video everyone makes any time a balance change affects either of those two things. Still, I'm not done, maybe the back half has some insight?
Malfeasance is also better if other people in your fireteam are using it, as their bullets also count towards the explosion.
Imagine actually having that gun... Must be nice. Tried for a good while to get it. Day in and day out only playing gambit. Got 4 people one time when they decide to try and attack instead of running away like they usually do. I got so bored of playing gambit and you are just messing it up for your tm8s by having to save your heavy ammo for the oposing players. Why 4 instead of 3? Why force people to play everybodys least favorite game mode to get one of the best exotics in the game? Should it not be fun to get exotics by quest? Its a game so why is it not possible to do the quest in the activity you prefer? Pvp, pve or gambit? Its bafling to me.
They are buffing hand cannons soon so this thing will soon be even better

Ive experimented a lot to try and find the best subclass for lucky pants/malf, and for me personally i think i prefer solar for the radiant buff plus survivability through healing nade/ ember of empyrean. It does unfortunately leave you at the mercy of the artifact as far as overload stunning.
I STILL wish it had been given a form of Meganeura, just make it so each crit gives each dart explosion a bit more damage and/or larger explosion radius. a shame they just went with straight up damage without any real change in utility.
Crimson with Lucky Pants is also really good because of the fire rate you hit that max bonus REEEEEEAL quick
Been running the Malfeasance with The Pants since Beyond Light.
This combo has been ridiculous since then.

Malf and Lucky pants is how my team beat caretaker on day 1, we hit our heads into the wall for 6 hours, and swapped to 4 hunters, 2 warlock, all ran lucky and malf and beat it second try. Long form damage check type stuff, even in this new environment can kill runs. Malf can really get the ball rolling in those scenarios.
If you play D2 in any serious manner, do yourself a favor and just grind out all your available catalysts at Shuro Chi with an Orpheus Rig Hunter build.
Datto. You dont understand. weapon shoot. make explosion many times. make good brain juices. makes player happy. heavy machine gun do not do that (most of the time).
Also Lucky Pants happens to be one of the best looking Hunter Exotic armor peices. Cowboy gang.

I still think the catalyst is a big miss. Imagine if the catalyst was Kinetic Tremors. Explosions everywhere for days.
I got Malf two weeks ago and then the Catalyst a few days later. Since then, I’ve been using my Hunter more than my original main.
Then again, I don’t do much endgame content.

Ah, but Datto, there another side to this equation. Did you at any time feel like mal was not putting the work in? Just because it isn’t better does not mean that it has to be relegated to the “never use” part of the Vault. Would a MG be better? Sure. But can you use Mal and still have fun? Yes. Not a bad thing at all. I think that were Mal is is the “sweet spot” it isn’t meta, and if you don’t prefer the meta for some reason you an alternative that can hang. More guns should be here. Not the best but it doesn’t feel like your shooting nerf darts at an ogre.
Malf lucky pants can kill barrier champs before they bubble, machine guns can’t, it also has anti unstoppable so it’s 2 champs in 1, it’s perfected for solo lost sectors.
I believe you can side step the Lucky cooldown by pulling out your ghost and then putting it away........
Malfeasance is a BEAST!! Easily one of the best in the whole game. You rarely need something else.
