- James Marsters Q&A at Wizard World Portland on Sunday, February 24, 2013. A fan asked him a question about doing the voices for audiobooks, specifically Dresden Files. James did some voices, including telling a story about recording the Vampire Empire series.
I love him in Dresden Files.
He's awesome at reading and paints vivid pictures of the Dresden world. Oddly I find it hard to put his face to his own voice when he reads. He does such a great job though.
I discovered the awesomeness that is _The Dresden Files_ simply by looking at what other work James had done, after _really_ enjoying him as Spike. Because of that my mind's Harry will always a dark haired Spike.
Oh, and James would have made for an _amazing_ Harry in the TV show. But that was _so_ bad, I'm kinda thankful they didn't cast him in that train wreck.
Άλκης Δ. Same here. I also imagine Spike as Harry, only with dark hair. I can't even picture anyone else as Harry.. The ONLY reason I started listening to Dresden was because I had finished watching Buffy and Was missing Spike so badly.
@@AlkisGDthat's how I found the Dresden files too!!!😁😁
Thanks for this. Enjoy reading J. Butcher very much. Listening to James Marsters do the audiobook improves the story for me ten-fold. His voice is like listening to liquid chocolate.
He can pull of the quintessential noir narrator voice. However, he does make a lot of mistakes (totally butchers anything in Latin), which is why I prefer reading the books first and listening to the audiobooks later.
Άλκης Δ. See, for me, It makes perfect sense. Because Harry butchers Latin as well.
Jessy Starr I don't know Latin so I never noticed it but I can see Dresden making those mistakes because he is so bad at it..
Love the Toot-toot voice. It was exactly as I imagined it. So perfect.
He's got such an amazing voice for these books it just fits. I only just realised he is Spike from Buffy
I found Vampire Empire by chance. And I was blown away by the fact it was James Marsters. But then I couldn't get enough. So I started listening the Dresden Files. Now I'm an addict. And I have to wait for the next book to come out D:
Soon
James has read books other than Dresden? Which ones? I didn't know about it.. what are they about?
There's the vampire empire series and one of the drak artifices books by Cassandra Clare
And I think one of the Shakespeare plays also
omg thank you for posting this. That was wonderful

I loved him as spike.i used to rush to my hostel room to watch Buffy bet rounds n pts at late nights .the only thing that got me thru .And now I get to listen to him again.feel lucky
It is a character in the Vampire Empire series written by Clay and Susan Griffith. Buzzy Multimedia produces the audiobooks with James narrating the trilogy. The first and second audiobooks have already been released and are now available. The third one was very recently recorded and will be a while yet before it is out. The 'mojo jo jo' sounding character is in the last two books. It is a great series! :)
I think the way you become the characters is amazing
dude funny without trying LOVE IT
Wow. So, those audiobooks are ready? Great news)))) Thank you, so much! BTW. I thought he meant Shiro from the Dresden Files books.
Your voice is absolutely wonderful love 💖 hearing you narrate The Dresden Files Harry is great 👍🏽 & not forgetting Murphy Thank you 😊 from a huge fan KAZ 😎🖤💖🥳🥰😎😊🥳🥰😎😊🥳🥰😎😊🥳🥰😎😊🥳🥰😎😊🥳
New questions are good:)
Sorry so long to reply...I replied previously to turbotj...The first book is called "The Greyfriar". The trilogy is written by Clay and Susan Griffith. Buzzy Multimedia produces the audiobooks and sells them. It is a really fun series...I truly enjoyed the characters and their story quite a bit. The second book is "The Rift Walker" and the third is "The Kingmakers"
The ONLY reason I started listening to Dresden was because I had finished watching Buffy and Was missing Spike so badly.
I imagine Spike as Harry, only with dark hair. I can't even picture anyone else as Harry..
“...tried to pick up girls. Never worked.”
😂😂
FlamesAndShadows, James used Mojo JoJo in the Vampure Empire series. it is a trilogy. The first two audiobooks are out'. We are waiting for the third one. That is the one that will have this 'new' voice. :)
He was best in as brainiac from smallville.
Yeah, good voice work on the Dresden Files.
There's a series about a Vampire EMPIRE? That sounds awesome! What's the first book called?
he's Spike from Buffy, right?
Yes, James played Spike on Buffy the Vampire Slayer....and many other roles since then. :)
lol i'm finishing book 15 right now, and i just now realize who the voice is *facepalm
Lol! Mojo Jojo really? I'm relistening the fifth book right now. Another 'in joke' to be looking forward for. =)
Holy shit, this is the guy from Marvel Runaways....never knew
He's so handsome as a dark haired mature fella. Glad he ditched the blonde.
he hated dying his hair platinum blonde
@@mrengler1 It actually caused him to get sores on his scalp!!
He's 50
-_- the slurping the mic in the Dresden files caused me to never even get past book 1.
Try book 3 or beyond. It's WAY better. They get exceptional by book 5 and book 12 still blows me away.
Syr456 The first 2 books he narrates, you can tell he's still finding his voices(s). By book 3 he's got it and like mentioned, they get infinitely better.
Syr456 weird im just listening to it and he's doing fine to me.
Sit down and read it. It's the Best!
iirc book 3 or 4 and beyond was produced by a different company and the quality is much better. i had the same problem with the first few books. you can hear all the lip smacking and breathing and whatnot.
I wish someone would correct his weird cadence and chronic mispronunciation of ordinary words, it's really distracting.
This was great. I am sorry but, I like him better in the fourteenth novel. Glover was better in book thirteen. In my opinion he should have been reading the whole series and, not Marsters.
Glover wasn't popular, they literally had to bring marsters in to do ghost story so they'd never have to acknowledge again
James Marsters is the best thing to happen to Jim Butchers urban fantasy novels evah. Butcher is so dull and predictable the books really boring. But Marsters as narrator makes that poopy pile fly like a humming bird.
🤨
Awesome narrator. Just too much "wet mouth noises) waaaaaaayyyyyyy too much.
