I think one of the most unknown in general industry but well known in the Automotive and hydraulics, also produces tolerances the uneducated will say not possible, thanks!
Hello, I love your shop, I am a gear hobber by trade but I have done everything. We had a sunnen with automatic stroke . Thread milling, thread rolling, hob sharpening, broaching, gear shaper , OD grinding, CNC lathe and a lot more . Retired now but I miss all that 47 years In machine shop. I had a blast. Thanks for your video brings back memories 😊
I have the British made equivalent made by Delapena around the same age. It’s almost identical to what you have there and the tooling between the Sunnen and Delapena I believe is fully interchangeable. A lot of people don’t get on well with these , I think it’s because they don’t understand how to use them. Thanks for an interesting video.
dee dee, I love the Sunnen Machines. I own a war baby LB and have almost all the mandrels for the machine except the an600. Too much money even on the market. Maybe someday. I often wonder why other hobby machinist do not invest in this tool. I sometimes leave my bores a bit undersize to finish sizing with the hone. Can't beat it for getting on size. A lot of users that do have them have to understand that you have to true your stones prior to finishing their work with a truing sleeve . I have made my own depending on the size required. I can't be with out with it.
Thanks for the info I got my first sunnen LBB-1699k rod hone coming and I’ve never used one I was looking for a video to show me how to set up and just use it! Love the info you give !
I could do the old Harley rocker arms, tappet guides both ends of the connecting rods the finish hone on cylinders and more, The HD factory method is using the rigid hone first with coarse dry stones, it will take out .010 in a few minutes, then finish with the fine stones and oil in the machine using torque plates- money, money money for me.
@@deedeeindustrialsuperprecision I bought the sunnen hone, also has the AG300 gage with the setting rings, a cabinet full with mandrels from.400 to 3.250 and all the stones and the cap and rod grinder. It is older then yours it does not have the fine feed dial, I ran the machine and every thing works. I suppose I can buy tooling to do bigger cylinders.
@@Randysshop jug honing by hand💪. Done a few myself in a shop that had no fixturing to hold them in the CK10. I soon after came up with a way to hold them in the CK10 lol. Good luck with search, they are out there.
@@deedeeindustrialsuperprecision yes i just done my first order with them last week very nice guy I talked to sent me afew new sunnen books to look at I really enjoy your channel! I looked all over U2 trying to find a video showing how to operate a sunnen rod hone mandrel machine and ran across yours! Can’t wait for more videos do you know if you will do more on the sunnen hone? I really want to learn this machine my sunnen LBB-1699k will be at my place next weekend so it’s my first time With one
@@cdpperformance2613 Yes, I use the hone for the most accurate of work it is the machine for accurate holes if you can get the work on it. There are two systems Automotive and industrial, more stone selection in the industrial catalog. Thanks stayed tuned!
These are great , the most under rated machine on the shop.

I have a Sunnen from an old motorcycle shop from the 20 /30/40's + lot's of tooling. I am going to try to learn how to use, thanks for your videos
The machine is not very complicated but a little different from other machines, thanks for watching!
Thank you for showing the AN 600 mandrel. I'm looking to purchase one and this was very helpful.

That's a nice machine Dee Dee, guy's that work on motorcycles would love to have one like that.
I am a factory certified Harley mechanic, the machine is very profitable there also. Great point!

@@Randysshop yup, the Sunnen AN-600 mandrel will do 2.5"- 6.0" and uses Sunnen AN series stones and guides.

"...cause it cost me six hundred bucks". Old man, old jokes. 🙂
Thank you sir so much for this review.
That AN600 mandrel cost much more now, thanks.
There's nothing better for a +/-.0005" bore than a Sunnen, some mineral spirits, and set of gauge pins.
The method is not as widely known as one would think.
Do
You know if the AN -600
Mandrel the rear wedge cannot be fixed I have a chip spot on one side of it inside the rear
The parts you need are available from Sunnen, it is a company you deal directly with, there are no dealers.
