The Giles entrance was epic, made even better because Anthony Stewart Head was not listed in the opening credit as most (special) guest stars are. However Joss revealed that they had to pay a lot of money to have this done as there were strict rules about acting credits They also repeated this with the Alyson Hannigan guest appearance on Angel when she goes to LA to tell Angel about Buffy's death at the end of season 5.

I don’t think she ever considered that there would be a time when her and Willow would physically showdown: there’s been verbal fights where Willow has always tried to overstep Buffy’s authority as the Slayer but it’s never been physical. It couldn’t be because Buffy was far too powerful for her. It would be slaughter if she attempted to attack her.
Now Willow feels that she has the power to take on anyone and that no one can stop her she wants to physically showdown with Buffy. It’s a huge payoff but one unexpected. And while Buffy may still feel wrong about attacking Willow back, she doesn’t feel shame because she knows she can take her blows.

I love how Dawn is still trying to talk to Willow even though she is scared and knows exactly that she wouldn't last a second against her. She reminds me a lot of S1-Buffy in that way.
I also love those little hints of the writters that they noticed how the audience felt about Dawn and her "constant whining" or as in Ep7 "Dawn's in trouble, must be tuesday".

    1. It hurts to see Xander feel useless. He wants to help and be there for his friends especially his most dearest friend of them all, Willow, but he can't.
    2. Remember back in the first season everyone thought Willow was so cute and adorable, couldn't hurt a fly? Fast forward to present time Dark Willow = I ain't going nowhere near THAT. Nope. I'm counting my blessings, thank you very much lol.
    3. Buffy and Willow showdown was the craziest thing that has happened on the show. But Giles showing up at the end was INSANITY 🤯😱 You had the biggest smile on your face, Elie. Aww. Loved it!

I know she isn’t the only character they do this with, but I love how they have Willow repeat lines from the earlier seasons. Obviously ‘and I think I’m kinda gay’ is one, and ‘Bored now’ (that she said just before killing Warren) is something the vampire version of her used to say. I wonder if it’s because she is one of the characters that seems to have changed the most throughout the seasons and having her use the same phrases from earlier helps to demonstrate that, in some ways, she’s still the same

Willow was cruel but told many truths, Buffy is tired of being a hunter and wants a normal life, but her destiny was to be the chosen one, but that destiny was imposed, she did not choose it, that's why Willow tells Buffy that she really hates live, it's also true that somehow she was in second place in all this time, I understand that Buffy is (so to speak) the leader of the group, but Willow also helped and solved many problems, somehow she felt that she was not valued , that's why he tells Buffy that she had been in the shadows for 6 years and now it won't be like that anymore... I love that scene, it's a great dialogue and Alyson's acting is really good, her expression on Alyson's face : I'm going to tear you to pieces, it's great.

These episodes and in season 7 reminds me of how Johnathan gave the speech about Buffy getting School protector in highschool and thanking her for all she did.... how far he fell because of the group he fell into, Warren was such a bad influence... if it wasn't for the them, him and Andrew would have made great allies to the scooby gang

One of the funniest and frankly most interesting moments in all of ‘Dopplegangland” to me is when Anya is like “When I get my powers back, you will all grovel before me” and both Willow and Vampire Willow are like “Pssht, sure we will honey” in unison.
It’s like, not only does it show us that Willow and Vampire Willow are more alike than they think but it also shows us that Willow was never afraid of Anya or was ever willing to put up with her shit demon or not. Like some part of her already knew that Anya would never be a threat to her because she felt no fear of her.
Which goes back to the way Anya viewed Willow. Not scared of her exactly but wary of her. She knew Willow was capable of becoming a vengeance demon and that even if she did get her own powers back - she’d still have no chance against her because Willow was just in a league of her own when she let herself go.
Of course Anya had no idea then of just how powerful Willow could become if the dark side ever took over. But it’s almost like Anya witnessed Willow’s potentiality right from the beginnings of it being used. And honestly, more people should be talking about their relationship dynamic because there’s a lot there.

  • @mikolokim8182
    @mikolokim8182 2 года назад +6

Warren is the line that Willow was at. While he was still human, there was still a twisted justification for his death, as in there was an eye for an eye. The other two would be the crossing of that line. While they did team up with Warren, they did not actually murder people like Warren did, therefore there would be no justification to her murdering them.
I like to believe that Buffy recognized that she had a good chance of bringing Willow back as long as there was some justification for murder. While Buffy will NOT kill a human, she at least recognize that sometimes shit happens, and as long as she can stop her from killing recklessly, she was going to do it. You can tell this by the speech she had with Dawn and Xander.
I also like to believe that when Willow had Warren in the forest and was talking to him, she realized as well that he would kill again. His arrogance and attitude didn’t help the situation.

Anyway, yeah there's some really good tying up of some loose character ends in this episode - Xander/ Anya stuff, him feeling like he can't do anything, Jonothan being more moral than the other two - good stuff to see

A great title for this episode Willow now in true 'Darkman' mode, revenge is all that is driving her, and the other two, Andrew and Jonathan seem doomed. Anya explaining in a matter of fact way to the Prison Guard what is going to happen is very funny. Her chase is relentless, and the scream she lets out outside the Prison is really chilling. The other part of the story arc is Spike's quest to complete the tasks. Prophetic words indeed when Buffy says is she is running low on magic power, she is gonna need to juice up soon, and we switch to the abominable Rack. Willow of course is now more powerful as him, and takes his strength. The Willow and Dawn conversation is interesting, with Willow's now piercing eyes looking straight onto Dawn's mind. Willow saying to Dawn you weren't always human, and why is she crying as she is just a mystical ball of energy, this is so hurtful to Dawn. Funny too when Jonathan and Andrew are arguing and Anya says ' the annoying Virgin has a point '. Great dramatic and painful conversation in The Magic Box with Xander and Anya. Willow's great scene with Buffy at Rack's where she seems to release all her pent up anger and hurt she has endured over the years of Bullying and being thought of as a nerd, and now feels she has the power to take revenge on all is a very interesting concept from the writers, it seems now as she refers to herself as a 'junkie' but feels the need to get even on everybody. The killer line here is when Willow says to Buffy, 'you hate it here even more than I do'. We switch back to Spike briefly to see he has more tasks to complete, which is interesting as this story is sidelined here as the main event is in the Magic Box, but the Spike storyline even though peripheral here, is probably the most important for the whole Series! The Buffy/Willow showdown was inevitable. It seems so bitter when Willow says to Buffy 'years of being your sideman' there seems to almost actual hate and jealousy towards her here, she is of course just too powerful now, but a brilliant ending scene Willow is thrown across the room, and we see the return of a 'juiced up' Giles, great satisfaction for the viewer here setting up a great Finale.

    • @roonarific1086
      @roonarific1086 2 года назад +2

That bitterness from Willow about being the 'sideman' takes me back to Fear, Itself in season 4 where Willow snapped at Buffy "I'm not your sidekick." It's interesting if you compare Willow and Xander's journeys side by side on this topic. In season one, Willow is the one who first describes themselves as 'slayerettes', whilst Xander is often trying to wander off on his own and prove himself, joining Buffy in the Jesse rescue attempt in The Harvest, or going to Angel in Prophecy Girl. Now looking at the latter end of the series, Willow is bitter, jealous and resentful at being a sidekick/slayerette and there's an extraordinary conversation between Xander and Dawn in season 7 demonstrating his growth on the topic.

      SPOILERS:
Talking Willow down is not the right thing to do. Neither is beating her down. The only way to stop her is to calm her down. And there’s only two people that know what to do.

  • @Girl4Music
    @Girl4Music 2 года назад

Posting my BUFFY REWATCH recap for ‘Two To Go’. May contain spoilers.
The two people that ever wronged Willow the most are Warren and Veruca. And the way they wrong her the most are because of being the catalysts for her losing her lovers. Veruca made Oz walk out the door by manipulating him into thinking the wolf was who he was. Warren made Willow lose Tara by accidentally killing her. Anything that happened to Willow herself at any point didn’t cause her as much pain as anything that happened to her loved ones. Willow wrapped her entire self around the people she cared about that when she was without them, she was gone.
After losing Oz: “I feel like I’ve been split down the center and half of me is lost.”
After losing Tara: “The only thing I had going for me were the moments, just moments, when Tara would look at me and I was wonderful.”
There’s a co-dependency to Willow’s character that is so fascinating to think and write about for me since I have never experienced this loss of identity in myself.
So why then does she turn on and against her loved ones in this episode? If that of which causes her the most pain is pain to and losing her loved ones, why is she now suddenly attempting to hurt them? Well, the answer to that has already been answered. They’re in the way of her greater plans while she is riddled with an intense and confusing blend of emotions and themes that she cannot differentiate between because she’s lost all sense and control of self: anger, hatred, grief, vengeance, sorrow, pain and power. These greater plans that take most priority override everything else that matters at the moment and they’re being driven by all these emotions and themes at once. She’s running on nothing else but pure animalism. The more and more power she accumulates and absorbs into herself, the worse this gets. And the more and more people get in her way, innocent or not, loved ones or not, the more and more her rage is fuelled. The more and more likely she is to turn evil and completely lose all of her humanity. The more and more likely that she is to become a monster just like any demon or vampire. She’s at the brink here. She could topple over and submerge herself into the empty abyss, taking everything and everyone with her, at any moment. But there’s a reason why she doesn’t. At least, not yet.
There is still a part of her that is clinging on to the surface, to the ground beneath her feet. To life and to humanity. And the reason is Tara. For the few moments that she thinks of Tara and all that Tara means to her, all of which Tara has done for her, and how much Tara loved her, she is propelled back to herself and back to the excruciatingly painful thought that Tara is gone. And then the whole cycle starts all over again. She’s mentally and emotionally stuck in a cycle between the immediate and stark urgency to kill Jonathan and Andrew and the dull ache of not wanting to bother at all if it doesn’t make a difference to the outcome. If it doesn’t bring her Tara back. If it doesn’t make her feel any better. But alas, because of the corruptive power of black magic, the former wins out. Now the question is would throwing around physical reflections and reminders of her roots in nerdism be more satisfying than throwing around a reflection and reminder of what grew her out of it? Not likely. ‘Cause it’s like the woman cannot live if she’s not living for somebody else - be it for the better or for the worse.
Buffy and Willow’s showdown in ‘Two To Go’ is years of repressed jealousy, resentment and ignorance boiling to spill over. This showdown that occurs at the climax of this episode is the legendary Caesar VS Brutus showdown.
    WILLOW: “So. Here we are.”
BUFFY: “Are we really gonna do this?”
WILLOW: “Come on, this is a huge deal for me! Six years as a side man, and now I get to be the Slayer.”
BUFFY: “A killer isn't a Slayer. Being a Slayer means something you can't conceive of.”
WILLOW: “Oh, Buffy. You really need to have every square inch of your ass kicked.”
BUFFY: “Then show me what you got. And I'll show you what a Slayer really is.”
When it came right down to it, Willow perceived Buffy as a violent inhuman thing that would ultimately expose her greatest fear. And yet she’s the one that turned into the monster all because she couldn’t let her anger and hatred go and let the magic power that made her something a little more than human go to her head.
Willow’s perception of Anya in her ‘Restless’ nightmare when her perception of Buffy unveiled her perception of herself: “It’s exactly like a Greek tragedy.”
Definition of ‘Greek tragedy’ by Collins Dictionary: a play in which the protagonist, usually a person of importance and outstanding personal qualities, falls to disaster through the combination of a personal failing and circumstances with which he or she cannot deal
FAITH VICTORIA: “Just like how the Roman empire fell because of inner corruption, Willow became Dark Willow because of her inability to reconcile her inner turmoil with her misuse of magic, and fell from grace in her own way.“

I agree with you. The more significant line would be Willow killing anyone at all (Warren), her wanting to kill the other 2 less guilty boys isn't that significant a line. It was probably done just to give this episode stakes.
On that note, I don't think the Buffyverse logic would count Rack's death as a human murder since he has mystical powers or is a mystical being. It's the same logic as Buffy cutting off Mrs Gwendolyn Post's (the evil watcher from season 3) arm and causing her to get incinerated after she gained mystical lightning powers.

Technically murdering Rack is the line that was crossed 2 kills and Rack as piece of shit that he is didn't deserve to be murdered. Also Rack is a human he is a Warlock/magic dealer.

Like she told Faith, she has lost many battles, but one thing is, she was never made the victim until Faith Came along.
So to the people who say that she could have "wiped the floor" with Willow if she wanted to, you are half correct. Buffy did hold back because Willow was her friend. But Buffy is also smart enough to know that she could not go against Willow with kitten gloves, so she was on takedown mode, not kill mode.
Now when you turn to Willow, please understand a few things. She used magic to put her on par with Buffy. Not just strength, but martial abilities as well. She is smart enough to know that Buffy would try to stop her physically, so you think she wouldn't call upon magics that gave her physically equal footing? Now years of experience combat-wise, yes Buffy would have eventually taken her out in a straight hand to hand combat situation, BUT.....
Willow is incredibly powerful (one might even say deadly) with the magics,. And she held back with her magic as well. A simple "sleep" spell (as demonstrated on the police officer) would have shut Buffy down. A flick of her wrist, a simple word or two and she could have ended Buffy right then and there. Willow never stated that she was out to kill anyone other than the Trio. She did say she will attack (not kill) anyone who gets in her way. So I like to believe that they were BOTH holding back from using any form of killing technique/spell.

If Giles didn't realize him being gone caused problems with no adult figure around, then first time reactions of his return definitely showed just how wrong he was in leaving. I always assumed he would have been in Tara's shoes (dying) with BtVS being a coming of age story though. The mentor getting killed during coming of age stories is a fantastic trope (which Tara took the unofficial role of with his leaving, thus her death [therefore not a bury your gays trope by my definition]). Still doesn't make me think Giles did the right thing in leaving, though. Welcome back Giles. Even under such bad circumstances.

The writers needed Giles leave or die for the coming of age season 6 story. Since Buffy had just died, and her mother died last season, I think it would have been too much death thrown at Buffy if Giles dies. So Giles leaving was the right choice.
Tara's death, though extremely unpopular with fans, had the desired effect to create an epic season finale with high stakes and high emotions for all our characters. The Dark Willow 3-episode finale plays like a big movie, high paced, full of action and big character moments. Imagine how lame it would have been if we just had the trio for the finale - it would have been worse than The Initiative in season 4. So, even though I hate that Tara died, it really did allow for an epic season finale.

@@daniig62 I have mentioned it twice (this episode and last episode) not really enough to ask that question or wonder anything about. Plus I am not a fan of the idea that people believe it of Tara's death, that's all. If I have mentioned it other times it has most likely been in my upset about Tara being referenced that way. Recently, it's been on my mind since Elie has been on these episodes post Tara's death.

@@Buffy8Fan weird considering the show is pretty much the origin of the entire concept of bury your gays. But since you’re not a “fan” of people… the other fans of this show…who coin it for what it pretty much was….that says a lot. Since when does picking and choosing the definition of literal tv tropes been a thing? You can’t just change what it is to fit “your” definition of it lmaoo the writers even regret killing her off

It's weird to me when people use the idea of Giles being the only adult figure around when most of the main cast at this point is in their 20s, fully (young) adult. Buffy is reasonably stunted for various reasons, but Buffy also isn't really Giles's main responsibility, job or family wise, to be frank, as he has his own life and responsibilities to care for. Because the show doesn't visit other narratives very often, it's easy to forget that Giles essentially put his life on hold for 2+ years. The more I revisit the show, the more it becomes apparent to me that the story didn't highlight the lack of familial influences/engagement all the characters seem to suffer from enough and the show often mitigates that by using "chosen family" to carry the weight of those lessons instead, even if it's not a 1:1 fit. Because all things considered, Buffy and Dawn's other family members reasonably should have been a lot more involved after season 5, especially her father, but he all but disappeared and as of this episode, continues to be absent.
But regardless, Giles not being around was necessary for the remaining characters to grow and experience adulthood on their own terms. The way that happened may not have been the best, but narratively, it needed to be done.

I remember watching this when it first came out. At the end of the episode my sister and I jumped up absolutely screaming! our mother came running up the stairs wondering what in world was happening 😂
Now you have caught up I would like to mention encase nobody knew that the original ending to the episode ‘The Gift’ in season 5 was changed. Originally Joss had planned to kill Tara causing Willow to turn evil and she was meant to team up with Glory because season 5 was meant to be the end. However he changed it and kept the dark Willow storyline for future use if the show was to continue 😊
