Object to Carry With You, Feb 16th, 10am to 8pm

I'm teaching Theory and Practice of Conceptual Art this semester and have once again assigned students to carry a 2x4 (cut to their height) for a week. We began Wednesday. I do this too. The board can/should never be more than arm's-length away-fidelity competes with possibility. Yesterday, I recorded my travels and this is the result. I like to say, when asked, what's this about, that it's about carrying a board around. Which is true. And it's also about being legible or illegible in certain ways, depending on who you are, what you're doing. My foot is resting on my board now as I type this. Very reassuring. I've invented a weird rule, if I leave it for a moment, I hold my breath and then once I return, I apologize and tap it a few times. About to go to a wedding in the DC area. We'll see how this works out.
