Faith's story | Boxer Used for Breeding then Abandoned Finds Love in the End

  • This is our dear Faith’s story. I’ve put off posting it for a little while now. It was a bit too raw to watch back and even to be able to read through your heartfelt comments. The loss of Faith really saddened us deeply. I didn’t want to go on without her having her own story told in one place though. Her story is a very important story for people to hear.
Faith was a 4 year old pure bred Boxer used for breeding by a registered breeder. She lived her short life in a cage and was fed by machines with no human contact. Once she was of no use to the breeder she was surrendered into rescue. Whilst this may sound shocking, this is a very common scenario. There are many ethical breeders yes, but there are just as many unethical breeders out there. It is up to us as the public, to do our research thoroughly to determine who are which, if you are going to buy through a breeder. And of course adopting a rescue is a very rewarding and important path to choose. Faith was a rescue dog in the end, there are many dogs surrendered by breeders waiting to be adopted and be loved finally.
Back to Faith’s story … Faith came to the farm with her daughter Hope. Both girls were very shut down and traumatised. So much so, they fell like pancakes on the ground in the company of humans.
We discovered that they let their fears subside with the company of other dogs and were able to observe trust in humans for the first time through the dogs and their positive interactions with us.
We never forced any interactions and allowed them whatever time they needed.
Unfortunately, it was discovered that Faith had a very aggressive terminal cancer. We were devastated for her. The news came just weeks before she was to be adopted.
It just didn’t seem at all fair. So we adopted Faith into our own family. We wanted for her to feel and be adopted into a loving home, even if in her last weeks. And she did finally feel that.
Since Faith’s passing, we have also adopted her daughter Hope. Hope continues to grow in love. Slowly but surely.
We don’t want Faith’s short life to go by without stopping to think a little more about the bigger picture. If sharing Faith’s story helps inspire a few more people to research a little more, ask a few more questions or even adopt … then telling her sad story will be very worthwhile.
To all of those that followed Faith’s story from the beginning and loved her too, thank you.

We rescued an elderly Irish Wolfhound from the pound. He was crippled and incontinent. His elderly homan had died and he was quickly taken away. He howled for 2 weeks. Then he realized he had been adopted into a pack. We had a female Wolfy at the time, and she took him under her wing. She even moved in with him for the entire winter on her own accord into the heated room I made them in the garage. Conner died a happy old Wolfy. And I am a much richer man. Thank you Luke and Sam for what you do. From Arizona.

The people who so obviously mistreated Faith & Hope shouldn’t be allowed to own any animal. Their lack of any compassion or concern for the physical and mental health of the dogs in their care is criminal. If they’re still allowed to breed dogs someone needs to expose them for the disgusting excuses of human beings they are. They have a special place in hell waiting for them!

Speaking of breeders, I experienced something disturbing a few weeks ago. I was watching a very well -known dog show because I love dogs, but can't have one of my own due to severe health problems. When the category which featured American Staffies was introduced, the entrant was a beautiful dog that had his ears cropped. The same had been done to the boxer that was entered. I was so upset my first thought was of Miss Red and Miss Violet and Chance and Hope and Maggie and Rosco and Chopper and Tank. How beautiful they all are with those wonderful expressive ears. Why would a so-called reputable breeder do that to a glorious creature and why would this dog show not ban breeders who committ such a heinous act? Needless to say, I won't be watching anymore dog shows. I am so grateful for these videos. They have given me hours of joy and I eagerly await each one.

For all of us who learned to love the Boxer Bounce, humor, enjoyment of life and kindness, seeing Hope and Faith utterly cowering was something of a huge shock but also, we subsequently cheered when a Boxer Bounce appeared, and a love of excursions, a love of treats, and at long last, a love of snuggles and some trust. All your efforts, and of the Pack, and people's prayers...it was very much "worth it".

@@tanjowil9743 As an adult I’ve always had shelter dogs, but in the US since you can’t buy from a pet store in most states, it’s the best and practical way to get a dog. It’s kind of a gamble because you never know the dog you are getting as far as breed. My parents got dogs given to them or a shelter dog also, so I did the same. My dog now is a variety of most likely many breeds, there are very few working breed dogs in Las Vegas, NV. Most dogs are stay inside and out of the heat type dogs. Even walking them outside in the summer is a gamble with the afternoon concrete or asphalt heat levels. I can’t imagine having a working breed dog and unable to exercise it. Plus all dogs are desexed before they are adopted so as not to add to the problem. I know that’s not always the truth in other states and cities, it’s all in what a shelter can afford before adoption. I could never see myself buying from a breeder especially after seeing the shape of Hope and Faith. I know not all breeders are the same, I just can’t ever do that now. Their journey, I’m sure has changed many minds.

I couldn't agree more. Every dog (and cat) should be spayed or neutered, unless there is proof that it belongs to a licensed and reputable breeder with heavy fines for those who don't (or won't) comply.
I would have loved my now 16 year old to have had puppies of her own but, as a responsible owner, I have had all mine spayed.
Where I live, on a relatively small island, the tradition was to tie the female dog up when she was on heat so, no surprises, she had no escape and often fell pregnant. This tradition is one to lose and it is changing slowly. However, any puppies in the local rescue centre are still usually from this scenario (dropped off anonymously of course).

This is EXACTLY how our Daisy came to us. She was a stray and difficult to catch but once we did this is how she has been. She is a hunting hound, we think always kept in a kennel until she was dumped. She will not tolerate a collar or leash so we are just giving her time. She loves our other dogs (5) but is still very wary of us after being here 10 months. She is getting better as did these dogs. What on earth she has been through I can't imagine but she is with us safe and sound now. Milestones are small but we love to see them .

Faith and Hope's story is the one that taught me that my heart could break as completely for animals "met" only on videos as much as one of my own. I have cried watching other videos of animals mistreated, in pain, hungry, alone. But that sadness didn't last for days into weeks. When Faith crossed the Rainbow Bridge, I felt the loss of her beautiful presence in my far away world. I can't imagine the pain the Evans family and her pack family felt. Heartbreak beyond words. You are right, Sam. Faith must have her own story educating about uncaring, greed motivated breeders. I had never heard of being machine fed. I was appalled. Not even caring enough to feed in person. How these sentient creatures must feel never seeing a human, or feeling a loving touch or hearing a comforting word. To have their litter taken from them at 8 weeks old, probably the only living presence they experience and share until they birth again, must be unbearable beyond words. People MUST know her story and say "never again". 💞🐾💞

Julia - I'm so glad your Henry has blossomed. When I first saw Hope and Faith in a video months ago it reminded me so much of our two cocker/king charles cross girls adopted in late may 2009 at 5 months old (they were litter-mates). They came from a "backyard breeder" situation with little to no human contact, and were extremely fearful. It took months and months of patience and love to help them be comfortable in their own skins. They became comfortable with us in the household, but the rest of the world remained a scary place, especially the people (dogs were okay). Cayla passed in the spring of 2021, but her sister is still with us, although elderly & infirm at 14. Faith's story is so very sad. Understandably delayed, Sam. This is tough story, and as a childhood abuse survivor myself, Faith was "lucky" to have been taken in by The Farm; by Luke and yourself. To feel safe, finally, before the end of her time on this earth was beyond her wildest dreams and while it seemed a short time, I was very happy for them (Hope too) to have the experience that not all humans suck. Thanks for what you did for her and for all that you do for Hope...you're likely saving her life and you're doing great stuff. Great respect and gratitude, and sorry for the pain that you all endured. Sad, but encouraging story, and as you said, hopefully eye-opening for those seeking breeders. Oh, this world, argh!

Sam and Luke in Faiths short time with you, Faith was shown so much Love and Caring. Her short time with you showed her what love is. We rescued a beagle Maggie Mae. She was with drawn, had recently had puppies. She was dropped off at the local shelter. She was depressed, and when we have her a treat she would hide it so it wouldn't be take away from her. She was 3 years old when we adopted her. We had her for 7 wonderful years. When she was 8 she went blind. She accepted this, and our love got her through this. But at 10 years old she was limping and when the vet x-rayed her she found a large tumor on her groin and a spot on her lung. The grand children all came to see her, she loved them. A few days later she crossed over to the Rainbow 🌈 Bridge. So sad to see our pets go. We adopted another beagle 6 months later.

My favorite moment of faith and hope was when you were explaining how much they reminded you of your veteran buddies with ptsd. You were so downhearted and they were really keeping their distance, even with all the yummy chicken you were tossing them. Then in comes uncle Yo-yo, jumping the fence and coming to save the day like a superhero. He knew the way for you to earn their trust was to witness how much he trusted and loved you. It worked like a charm. They went from 30 feet away to practically eating out of your hands. It just goes to show never underestimate a dog’s intuition and good heartedness. ❤️❤️❤️

When I saw Faith and Hope's arrival, I was in tears. I'd never seen anything like this, even on animal rescue shows. I'm so grateful to you both for the care and kindness you lavished on Faith and continue to give Hope. Watching them run and bounce was wonderful. Seeing how the other dogs gave them confidence to be, well, dogs.
As for reputable breeders who treat dogs like puppy producing machines rather than living creatures, words fail me. In the UK we are advised to see puppies in their home environment with parents. I can't imagine that these breeders would allow such shut down dogs to be seen. Describing the pups as being home raised would be false advertising. Perhaps one of the tv programmes you have dealt with could do an exposé on these breeding practices as a whole rather than singling out Faith and Hope's previous owner?
A very sad story but one that ended on a high because of the Evans Family and their pack.

    TO MY RESCUE DOG
There's no need to flinch when I lift my hand
No need to cower each time I stand
No need to run when I come near
No need to tremble - I see your fear.
You can sleep with both eyes shut, Don't need to jump when you wake up.
Your food is yours to eat in peace
No need to fight to keep your feast
You don't need to lie upon a hard floor
The beds and sofas are yours to explore
Don't need to sit out in the rain
The house is your shelter, your new domain.
I cannot erase the memories and fears I can't compensate for the wasted years
All I have is what you see
But I give you it all and I give you me.
I give you these arms to comfort and hold
I give you this voice for the joys you'll be told I give you my heart and abundance of love I give you my soul and I hope its enough.

Thank you for telling Faith's story. Yes, Faith and Hope were abused, terrified of people and shut down, yet they were both very, very brave. They survived their life with the breeder and thankfully they eventually made their way to the farm. They could not have found a better place to land. It took a lot of courage for them to begin to trust people; but, allowed to progress at their own pace they did. They learned to trust, relax, play with toys and be loved. RIP Miss Faith. Also, thanks for helping Hope grieve and get over the loss of her mother. She is doing so well now with her new family.

Whatever was done to them was outrageous! Thank goodness they found their way to your loving farm. Since seeing your original videos months ago, I started following a Boxer rescue in Michigan. Over the past few months they have rescued multiple Boxers from the mills. I am embarrassed to say I never realized how awful the Amish Puppy Mills are in this country - the dogs are considered livestock 😔. We are grateful for the time and love you put into her care. Although she may only have had months of happiness, she died surrounded by love, cage and abuse free, and got to enjoy freedom, free space, and just live life for however many weeks she did. I really believe that the Universe brought them to you, Luke, so your loving touch and gift of healing could be laid on both of them.

From another boxer devotee (2 purebreds, &2 boxer x's) I couldn't help but be riveted by Faith & Hope, from day 1, to their flowerlike blossoming, a little each day. I search for Hope on every video, and correct Luke (from the couch) if he doesn't give her a tasty morsel soon enough! Life can be pretty cruel when certain humans are involved, who have NOT evolved! I currently share my life with a delightful rescue dog, said by pound to be English Staffy X, but to me, he looks like a 'cut down' boxer with identical colouring as all my boxers were, tan, 4 beautiful white feet and lower leg, white band around the neck and chest, & 2 very even tan eye patches. Gorgeous! Not that I'm prejudiced!!! 😉😊

Oh boy, I'm bawling my eyes out to see their trauma. I truly hate people who mistreat animals, I can only hope that they get their come uppance. I know Faith ended up knowing love, but her life stopped because of the greed of the puppy mills. Cheers Rosemary Perth Western Australia 72yrs

They don't know how to be a dog, the soul broken no trust, not social habilities with other dogs, scared....🥺. But they got it, with time, love, respect, freedom, learning there is a wonderful life outside the cage.... Unfortunately for Faith it was a short happiness because her illness, but she had known what real love was, a very intense love and supporting her till her last breath. You had given her the best present a dog can have: the rescue, the rehab, and tons of love. Now Faith is in peace, no more pain, no more suffering, for allways free like a loved 🌠 in the sky

Unfortunately, Faith’s story is not unique, is it. Thank you Luke and Sam for showing Faith, and Hope, that there are good people in the world. Faith knew she was loved in the end and was part of a special family. 💔❤️💜🐾🐾

🌈💔 Faith's story will always remain with us. Yours and Sam's devotion to giving her the best life through patience and love shines through in this video. Knowing Hope has a devoted family to look after her forever is reassuring and I am certain Hope knew she was leaving her in in safe place would have make her passing easer to accept. I was fine until I saw the "Forever a farm dog " stone and then I was a blubbing mess. 😢😢Bless you all for your dedication to all your pack 💖❤‍🩹💓

A question regarding your posts. I watch right through adds and all as understand thats where revenue comes from plus like them. What would like to know is if I watch the older videos (usually watch 2 old ones daily) does this still count for your revenue. Be nice to know helping the Farm whilst reliving posts, a lot are reruns of previous reruns esp ones featuring Bandit, Zack and dear tubby Doug!!!

Heart is breaking for sweet Faith. Thank you for loving her and giving her the best life any dog could have. She is pain free now and running over the Bridge with her kind. We all know that this day will come for our babies, but it's the time up until that day the matter. 😢💔
