Thank you for the help!! My Dad just gifted me a 55 gallon and I was having a hard time finding a stand that was going to support 600lbs+ weight! Definitely can’t go wrong with cinderblocks! I even have grey paint on hand as my front room where it’s going is an oriental theme of grey, blues, and blacks. So it was an added touch to be able to “see” How it’s going to look in my home. 😉

This is an expensive hobby, but its so exciting to me. You always give me good ideas. Iam going love making something similar. I am about to start an aqua scape with either guppies or Japanese rice fish. Since its my first time doing this, I am using a less expensive fish. Once I get my tank up and running I plan on having Tropheus duboisi masawas. If you know anything about these fish, can you please school me.

After a lot research, I ditch the cookie cutter aquascape and go bare bottom. Save $ on substrates and live plants.
The pros of going bare bottom with simple Aquaponics setup.
My fishes finished all their foods. The bottom of the tank stay sparky clean. My hang on household plants eliminated ammonia and algae. Water change only take a few minutes and I don't have to trim plants or gravels vacuum. A win win for me.
Here a simple hole make video.

Here are the sceenshots of my tank.

Any suggestions for my tiny self cleaning tank?
I lol'd at one of the guppy staring at my background photo.

I gave you as always the thumbs up, would I go this route no. Me myself and I have always preferred the 2X4 route and there are many other routes out there. Is this a cost effect route yes. I personally would go the 2X4 route if you can to do so and can use a power drill to use to insert screws. As I have said yes cost effective but with the 2X4 or similar method there are many additions you can add like doors and others. The only issue that I see in this design is the possibility of the frame shifting over time. I come from the 1970's doing this and never had an issue with a wood constructed frame going out of spec. Although well intentioned think for a bit before going this route. Structurally solid is the goal with the ability to add to the structure. With solid wood you can give and take. No question this is the "Cheap" route in which many might need to setup a nice Aquarium. Don't take this wrong but we need to learn how to use tools safely. We need to get back into the game in the U.S. Period.

So, I got mine done but it looks like all the weight is going to the middle columns, it's a 6 foot tank Iand have the same the same cinder block layout as you, expect an added column, making a T in the middle. Why is all the weight going to the middle? The tank was custom done so it has a plywood board attached to the bottom already

Awesome cheap build! I know a 75 gallon tank filled with water weight is about 600lbs. Every 1 gallon is 8 pounds. I think this is an awesome build but if you have crazy children or big crazy dogs that bump into things, I’d be afraid of them knocking one of the cement blocks over and watch my tank crash to the ground. Every great build if you don’t have any rascals running around. Please don’t take this as me hating just watching out for people.
