When traveling overseas I only drink bottled water and get back to the hotel before sundown. Many years ago I was on a Carnival cruise with two family members and on the 3rd day the waiter offered to walk me to my room to which I asked not to but he still did. I didn’t want to open my door and asked him to leave, he had the audacity to open the door (apparently they hv a master key) and asked if he could come in. I said “absolutely no, if you don’t leave I’ll hv my family call security” (at that moment my family were in the disco, not in the room. I acted they were inside).
My mistake for staying quiet, 1- I didn’t want to ruin my families vacation, 2- during dinner I heard him talking about his family depending on him and been a single dad to a little girl so I was like nothing happened so I don’t want cause someone to lose their job and ruin their lives. For the rest of the trip I avoided the formal dining area and avoided wherever I saw him at all cost.

My one-time cruise experience to Cabo San Lucas, we were warned we would be offered drugs, and by golly, we were. To a local, a cruise ship looks like a floating ATM. The crew members, also, are from all over the third world.
I've lived in places painted as tropical paradises. They can be very clannish and violent toward outsiders.

My wife and I were in Jamaica recently and we never felt safe. This is just like it is in the Bahamas and we will never travel there or Jamaica again. Glad to see you’re safe now and back home. We totally believe you both.

In 2015 while at an upscale resort, several of us had dinner together. Myself and 3 others who had strawberry margarita's (just 1 each) became violently ill and spent the last two nights in bed at the hotel. One had to be hospitalized. We are convinced we were drugged, but luckily we had all gone back to our rooms early and didn't stay in the restaurant bar area.

Ladies......You are not in America when you are in "the Bahamas". People traveling to ANY area's around the world must be aware of warnings of violence/danger in their surrounding area. You were not on a "cruise excursion". The State Dept had posted warnings about The Bahamas previously. It's important to know what you are walking into.

I travel to Mexico a lot and see these types of American and European women all the time. They travel alone or with another female friend and go out drinking, even at night. I'm a guy and I don't even go out and get drunk by myself or with just one other person. They are completely unaware and naive. If you tell them to be careful, they get offended
This can happen anywhere, neighborhood bars, college towns, vacation trips. Ladies never put your guard down or leave your drink unattended. Stay in a group setting and most of all drink within moderation as to take care of yourself. Parents teach your kids this.
Or maybe, kids teach your parents. Kids are pretty up to date.
Women and men need to learn basic martial arts and awareness training.
This is why you have to mind your surroundings. In places your not sure of you either don't stay there or you don't drink or eat a thing. In fact, if you open the cap make sure you're the one who's twisting the cap on all beverages and you're visually seeing the plastic or aluminum seal around it snap or click when you do it.

I have been in Carnival Cruises with my husband twice. No problems for us at all. All of these are independent situations.

This is actually really true. It’s pretty much know that white women espically come to the Caribbean to sleep around on resorts. The resort staff ask the women if they are “satisfied”.

He obviously knows that there's no windfall to be had from 2 Bahamian resort employees, and depending on the resort, there may not be a lot of money to be won from it either (and that would require Bahamian court).......so go after the major Florida-based cruise line that's not affiliated with the resort on an island that the State Dept. has already warned people about visiting due to an uptick in crime. I'm sorry, that's an elevated form of ambulance chasing.

Born and raised in CA. I've been to 22 countries and 13 US states. I've only ever run into serious trouble outside the US in Brazil.
The US ranks #46 out of 87 countries ranked in terms of personal safety but hey if you want to miss out on all the different experiences life has to offer, that's all you.
It's so easy to stay fully aware of what any given location is like. I just don't understand how anyone can plan a trip (even in their own country or state_ and not do research beforehand. Not victim shaming. What happened to these women is not their fault. I'm just saying I don't go anywhere away from my area without doing research first. Had I had that rule before going to Brazil, I would have avoided being carjacked at gunpoint the way I was.

I was in the Air Force 1964-68. Sent to Italy and then to Pakistan. No one said anything about "being careful." I wasn't and God must have been with me.
Although the only report of trouble was in Turkey and some guy was being really disrespectful of the women. He didn't make it.

I heard about the travel restriction a while ago- not sure why they did not know about it. I have a friend who is going on a cruise in May ask me what I thought about the travel advisory last week- so not sure why these ladies did not check.

This story did not end well. These to Bahama mama's were caught in a lie while making up the repe charge. Fortunatly, their stories did not match the video surveilance footage that had them hand in hand with those two black men. Apparently, they were just on vacation to get laid.

I went to Paradise Island for my High School Trip...back in '78. At Orientation, they warned the girls "The Natives ARE Friendly. If he's been buying you drinks all night-he will want something in return."
"They are back in the US demanding justice...." REALLY? From WHO? The US may put some pressure in the Bahamian Government and offer alerts, but that is it....They may let this play out since there is a lot of tourist money involved and local Bahamians may act a certain way if they are to be indirectly prosecuted and/or punished by a Foreign Government. The criminals were pretty stupid and moronic in that there are cameras around OR they know it will be minimal punishment at most and can get away with it....most countries are not like the US were more fair, longer penalties are given in relation to the crime.
This should be a warning to women who travel there alone or in pairs. Yes, this can also happen here in the USA, but it will not be in such a blatant, almost carefree manner like these criminals did.

What are all you talking about? Cruise ships absolutely will tell you of the resorts closest by you can take a taxi to then pay your $60 to the resort to hang out for the afternoon. Most ppl don't want to hang on a locals only public beaches for the obvious reasons. Met tons of ppl off the cruise ships in Falmouth who paid the $60 to hang at the Royalton White Sands in Jamaica which is a 4 or 5 star place and pretty safe.
