  • Landscape photography cameras and lenses are not ideal for astrophotography. But is it even possible to get really strong fine art photographs with them by using astro filters? I tried that out and the results were quite surprising.

    I’m an astronomy buff, but very much like the dramatic “poetic license” of the third photo. That filter is definitely something I’ll have to consider if I become more engaged with night sky photography.

      Hi Michael, the dream star filter creates a huge transformation in the sky, though I like to use it as a stylistic instrument when it adds to the image. And that not only for the milkyway, but also for pure starry nights. Definitely an interesting filter 😊
      Thanks a lot for watching, my friend!
      Nice greetings,

    Good review of the filters Christian. Was interesting to see the differences between each one and then combined. I like the area you were shooting in for the shot. Thanks for sharing the video 👍🙏 ps. I had a weird dream the other night I was shooting landscape in Austria, funny story. I forgot half my gear which was back home, frustrating 😂

      Hi Adrian, ahh, that sounds after a nightmare, haha 😆 In case that should really happen one day, just knock on my door. I'm sure, I can help out with some gear 😂
      It was also quite interesting for me to see the differences, I have to say.
      Thanks a lot for watching and have a great weekend,

    Amazing images! I envy you for these nights cape locations. This stuf just isn't possible in the netherlands. Way to much light pollution over here. Keep up the good stuf! Grt guido

      Hi Guido, thanks a lot, Guido! Yes, that's interesting: when I'm looking at light pollution maps, almost everything is yellow and red in Europe. Just Austria is completely blue, which means almost no light pollution. Maybe I should really do a bit more astrophotography in the future. I just don't like the hangovers the next day, haha 😆
      Have a great Sunday,

    Thank you for the information. when I get the Zeiss Milvus 15mmF2.8 I need to get some adaptering and I will look into what filtersystem I will get to that lens. A few ND grad at least. I dont think a pol filter will work well on an ultra wide lens, banding in the sky

    • @christian.irmler
      @christian.irmler  2 месяца назад

      Hi Thomas, Kase has really a lot of adapter rings for special lenses that don't come with a filter thread because of their very short focal length. There was even a solution for my 12-24mm lens 😊 With bigger filters, though anyway a solution.
      There exists also a polarizing filter for the Armour filter system and ND filters, so that you could use that system even for landscape photography. Polarizers work also with ultrawide angle lenses. I have even one for my 12mm lens and that works for me.
      Have a great Sunday,

    You think 8 seconds is a long exposure? How about 8 minutes! Or 15 minutes.
    Or 2 hours with the intervalometers to get star trails!
    Anyway, beautiful images!

      @christian.irmler  2 месяца назад +1

      Hi Tim, yes, of course: 8 seconds is not much for a long exposure and I made already much longer ones. I meant that just according to the video: you know, I always try to keep things compact in my videos without too long breaks to keep it interesting. But when I was recording, I realised that these 8 seconds would feel like an eternity in the video. It was more meant as an excuse for the long waiting time while I exposed 😊
      Thanks a lot and have a great weekend,
      Christian

    Could you live in a more perfect place to photograph? I have to travel over 4hrs to get to Wales to see mountains, lakes and valleys. Where I live there is nothing of real interest. Lovely images and a good review of KASE filters - which I use as they are the best for the money.

      Hi Thomas, thank you, my friend! Yes, I have to say, I'm really grateful to live in this area here. And that's true, we have mountains here, lakes, and woodland. But as mountains are that far away for you, I would suggest to focus on what you have around you. What about woodlands, mosses, or even barren land? We all have anything amazing 4 hours away from us, by the way. For me that is the Dolomites 😊
      I don't know if that would be interesting for a video: But what if you would send me your GPS coordinates of where you live? And I'll do a little research around your area and tell in a video what I would photograph if I would live there? Again, I don't know if a video like that would work, that is something I will have to decide and at the moment I can't promise anything. But if you want, just send me an email and let's see what happens 😉
      And yes, Kase filters are indeed good. Not only the glass quality, but also the usability is amazing.
      Enjoy your Sunday,
      Christian

    personally, I don't like the third image. I am more into those millions stars in the night photos and also the texture. The third photo was more of a pastel painting for me or maybe the toy effect mode in Nikon.

    • @christian.irmler
      @christian.irmler  2 месяца назад

      Hi Muhammad, thank you for your honest opinion, my friend! Well, I see the dream star filter as a stylistic instrument that we *can* use, if that adds to the particular composition. And as for all stylistic instruments, it is a question of taste, if the artist likes to use it or not to achieve what he wants to achieve. I personally like to bring my fine art images into that direction of looking a bit more like paintings. That's maybe a personal thing, as I come from quite an artistry family. But here is no right or wrong. I will also not use this filter all the time. Just if I decide to use this stylistic instrument for an image.
      Have a great Sunday,
      Christian

    Christian, I left a comment on a previous video about an issue I was experiencing with Kase filters. If you could watch a video by Nick Page, "A better magnetic filter system" you will be able to appreciate what is happening. Over the past ten months I have been trying to resolve the issue with Kase Europe, UK and China and everytime they come up with another excuse. Currently I am over 1000€ out of pocket following my decision to purchase two sets of Kase filters. My question is this, would you be willing to compensate someone who bought Kase filters on your recommendation and then suffered the quality issues that I am facing? If the answer is no, then please offer a balanced view. Many thanks.

      Hi Gary, I was not aware that there were unanswered comments from my side. So sorry therefore!
      I watched Nick's video and I have to say, I'm a bit surprised, as I use Kase filters for almost 2 years now and I never had a problem like that. The magnets have even the perfect strength for me and they didn't get weaker over time.
      It seems that Nick had that problem with the older version of the wolverine filters (which I never used for a longer period!). As you can see in his video, they don't have any colour code, the KW revolution filters instead have.
      Unfortunately, I don't have any information about that issue right now, but I will talk to Kase to understand what went maybe wrong there in the past. I only recommend products that worked 100% for me and I don't earn anything at the sales. The only thing I can offer you is that I ask Kase to find a solution with you. But therefore I would need your full name, your email address and the exact filters you have bought and on which date at which distributor, so that I can forward that information to Kase. In my experience, Kase is really interested to find solutions. If you are interested that I forward that for you, just send me an email over my website with all needed information. Write "Kase Filters" into the subject of the contact formular.
      I hope that will help you,
      Christian
