He’s actually referencing (the Kimba part) a conspiracy from a LONG time ago that’s famously been debunked in thorough detail by YMS. The Hamlet part is obvious. Shakespearean story that’s told in so many movies that it’s a trope.
Yeah, I wish I could support this. I love the original film so much, I have it memorized. And I wanted a Mufasa movie for years, but instead of the hand drawn artisty that we deserve, we get a prequel to the remake, a film I only watched once, when I saw it in the theater, instead. And this is why I am seeing Sonic and Lord of the Rings this weekend instead of a Lion King movie this weekend. Great job, Disney.
Ppl are still drawing these CGI creatures and they're much more impressive than the 2d art style. I wish 2d comes back too, but no reason to diss this movie off that basis alone. Have an open mind.
The Lion King is probably my favourite animated movie. Loved it as a child. The CGI remake was disappointing and didn't have any of the charm that the original had. Many don't know but there was actually a Lion King sequel, Simba's Pride. Used to watch it a lot
@zackarydecicco3919 Why would I be negative towards a movie made by a company that literally hates me just for existing and likes to pander to evil and disgusting people and doesn't make entertainment for families anymore? The answer is in my question 😂
The general idea and concept of this movie is great, a prequel showing the origin story of Muffassa and Scar and how they became who they are is a really interesting idea and a logical way to continue the lion king franchise but this film would be so much better if it was told in the classic 2d animation style and if it was trimmed down a little bit. But tbh despite that it only feels like they made this film cos the last one made over a billion.
3:36 Yes it's actually erasing The Lion King Metholgy. There is a book telling the Mufasa and Scar origin story and this movie is NOTHING like the book. Just as an example, mufasa is NOT an orphan. Scar and Mufasa are brothers. But with this movie I guess me can call the books The Lion King Legends just like in Star Wars...
@MichaelTomsyck I saw Moonlight and If Beale Street Can Talk In their respective years, he then goes away for 5 years just to do this corporate garbage!
Oh no. Sean mentioned Kimba the White Lion. I don’t think he’s ready for the influx of YMS comments telling Sean about the giant debunking of that whole mess. Godspeed.
@ Comments aren’t as bad as I thought haha. I just know that video YMS put out obliterated all the Kimba conspiracies, so I thought everyone would be piling on.
I hated the live-action remake but love the original Lion King, it's a shame to hear this one isn't the best. Might still watch it regardless, I get free tickets from work 😁
Never been as huge on Lion King as the whole rest of the world (tho I have come to really like it). I would’ve given this a shot in theaters had it been 2D animated, but the 3D “live action” animation just really takes me out of the film, one of the various reasons I despised the 2019 Lion King. So it’ll definitely be a wait to stream, and Sonic 3 to watch in theaters instead for me 👍
Not going to watch a prequel to an already awful 2019 movie that also completely changes the canon of Mufasa being of Royal blood and him and Scar being actual brothers which made the betrayal hit even harder. I'm looking forward to Disney continuing to lose hundreds of millions of dollars, especially on these soulless creatively bankrupt pieces of slop they call live action remakes, and I'm excited for Sonic 3 to dominate at the box office baby!
You can’t say it isn’t a good movie, though. Proof: you haven’t watched it yet, making it 100% IMPOSSIBLE for you to have an opinion on it. Plus, the people behind the film put a lot of work into it, proving it’s not “soulless”.
Im highly upset they changed the backstory. Mufasa and Taka(scar) are blood brothers. Mufasa wasn’t a stray. There’s a story that explains Mufasa is the heir to the throne while Scar loses the roar of the kings(loudest roar in the pride) because he was doing Scar things
I felt it from the start because of Scar. Scar has more or less always been a bad brother to Mufasa because of this whole throne thing and his thirst for power and that's what makes the character charming. He was one of those well-written banal villains from Disney films. They were all evil for some reason (evil queen for Snow White's beauty, Tremaine for Cinderella's, Gaston because of his ego) but Disney insisted so much on their evilness that they became good. Seeing Scar being all nice to Mufasa to the point of having him adopted by his parents in this movie breaks the character for me. He is made to be mean, even The Lion Guard, a cartoon that follows the adventures of Nala and Simba's new son showed that he was just a big jealous person towards his brother.
Thank god at least this movie is OK, because we have the next Disney live action disaster.... and it will come next march, and next year. Prepare for that disaster!
It will forever be a stain on his career, but he can still do his own original and creative low budget films and projects, but he definitely will be less likely to be chosen by Hollywood to direct big budgeted franchise films in the future for sure
"The prequel to the live action remake of the Hamlet retelling that ripped off Kimba the White Lion" Ooff, who's gonna tell him the last part has been thoroughly and extensively debunked by YMS 4 years ago?
I watched The Lion King for the very first time about 2 years ago, and I know this is a very hot take…it was just fine. Very overrated. Certainly wouldn’t watch the 2019 remake or Mufasa
Sorry, but YMS did not debunk the plagiarism issue. It's just chauvinistic mumbojumbo. The proof that The Lion King is a blatant rip-off is the Japanese people reaction to the original Disney movie. They IMMEDIATELY recognized the rip-off and protested and virtually banned the movie out of indignation. No better proof than that. The YMS video made more than 30 years later cannot change that fact. And it's telling they didn't mention that crucial piece of evidence in the 'debunking' video.
Yup. First big stain on his career. He should just stick to more low budget creative and original films and projects instead of corporate creatively bankrupt slop
Bro the whole point was it shouldn't feel cartoony. Get over it. But in this prequel they do emote normally, due to the critisism of the first movie, which makes them not feel like real animals.
