I’m going to be in my first pageant next week and I’m very nervous so I’ve been watching a lot of your videos. UPDATE: I won 1st runner up, the talent award, and people's choice award. Your are the reason i did so good, so thank you.
I used to compete, and I tell everyone about this: don't talk about your boyfriend/significant other unless it is a pageant for married women! Pageants are all about YOU and YOUR accomplishments. It's great that you have him (or her) as a support system, but it distracts the conversation from what you should be talking about! Not to mention in some age divisions, more conservative judges might not find it appropriate for you to have one at all
Alycia, I love your last point! I always tell people that if you have to compromise yourself and your values to win a pageant, you don't want to win that pageant. Such a great video!
I do my best to avoid the phrase "I think that..." for pageant and job interviews. I try my best not to say "I think" but instead just state my belief to ensure my confidence on my standpoint truly comes through
Make sure to shake the judges hands when you enter the room, and when the interview is over shake their hands again and thank them. You become more professional, by shaking their hands upon entry you are politely greeting them as it is a formal setting. By shaking their hands and thanking them upon exiting, you are showing that you are polite and thankful for the opportunity to be interviewed by them. It also shows you are a professional individual! If you just walk out without shaking their hands, even if you say thank you, it's considered rude In most formal settings. Do that at a job interview and you probably won't get the job, the same applies for pageant interview. If you don't shake hands and aren't professional, your score will drop. And in smaller pageants, especially ones where many have never done this before, you stand out!
haha! I totally hear ya on the "um" Lovice! It's split - some judges can't stand it, while others don't mind it. I think most don't mind as long as it isn't obsessive/repetitive
Hi I'm vying for the Miss World Belize Crown this year and my interview is on March 17. I'm really inspired by your passion to help contestants all over the world. Can't thank you enough for all your advice.
I use the voice recorder feature on my cell phone for all of my social media posts and texting and emails and I see how many filler words I throw in! It's pretty horrifying to edit some of my writing but it helps to curve that habit.
I truly feel that a pageant contestant should avoid talking in an accent if it is not the way they truly speak. Acting like they are different than they really are. Just to sound more interesting. When one day they will have to talk in their real voice. I avoid foreign accents or getting dramatic in a interview. Because I want the judges to see How I really truly speak. This is very important to me.
I haven't been in any pageant interview but I would avoid talking about things that I am not good at... I would rather talk about things that I am good at and my strengths
I have my 1st pageant interview today afterschool and I know nothing about pageants so I have been watching your videos they are a great help Thanks so much!
A few things you shouldnt say or avoid . The reason being it is inadequate and it makes your literacy level look bad . 1) Ummm 2) Like 3) You know .. 4) False Contractions (Gonna, Wanna, etc) If you need time to think dont say umm. Just pause and gather your thoughts . Mid speaking again pause. Or say I'm sorry , to excuse the moment of process. Please eliminate the word like!!! You want to be a doer and a doer would do not compare using like. I hope this helps
Most of the time I don’t repeat the question after the judge says it but sometimes when it’s a multiple part question I have to in order for my brain to decode the question. I have ADHD (it’s also my social impact statement as well) and a slow processing speed, I’d rather take my time to answer the question right then only answer part of it in.
Something i wouldn't say during an interview is that, how will i make the judgest impress or dissapointed on me. I mean I will just tell them whats in my heart and mind the I know its true and something I believe on, maybe in that way i could state my opinion to judges in the right way. That would be all ma'am and thank you. 😊. Hahah aspiring beuty contestant is here. Lol. More videos please for me to learn more thank you. Ans God bless 😊😍😍😘
Thank, thank, thank for your wisdom concerning pageant interviews. I just finish one pageant, but did not win that one the Ms. Senior DC Pageant. Now I am in another pageant which is the American Classic. I am doing these pageants back to back, but your site has been a great help. God bless you amen. Check out RUclips for both pageants and check out the "Washington Post" /June 30, 2018 it will give you details. I will let know about other at a later date.

Check first some pageants don’t allow this
Using the word um.

Don’t use “like” in between words. Also don’t answer a question with “i think” because it shows you’re not confident in what you’re about to say

Thank you so much for sharing, Lauren! :)
I try avoiding the words Um, but, like, so
Everything discussed in this video is for everyone (even those outside pageantry) to learn and develop.
So happy that you enjoyed it! :)

What I learnt :Pageant interview is like rapid fire.....
Yes! So true, it is
I would do my research before talking about something that I would not know about.
Do not say "um"
Yes, good one! This is one I am sometimes guilty of, but if you can avoid it that is best! Thanks for your comment!

#Do not tell them a story or examples.
Definition of stuff
