The strategy of some intervals within a longer run is something I will try. I can definitely relate to the mental fatigue creeping in and getting into a slow decline. A reset sounds like a good idea. I am thinking of breaking it up by km instead of time… 2km race pace followed by 1km of alternating between above pace by 10+ seconds for 100m, below race pace by 10+ seconds for 100m…. Seven sessions of that with the last interval session of 1.1km being all at 10+ seconds. Incorporating fueling in the slow portions of the intervals as I tend to forget to fuel until it is late in the race and then I take on too much.
I'm almost 47 and only training for 1 marathon this year, and want to make the most of it, so trying double-thresholds and easy double runs, and hitting goal pace in long runs. Also sticking to hills as it's tried and tested, as well as strength training 3x week. averaging 70 miles/week.
My pacing at all distances sucks. My 5k's are all out for the first 3k and holding on for dear life on the last 2. I think getting it right for the longer distances is easier even though I died at the end of my first marathon.
I always say: You are your own limitation. People can do so much more than they think. That's an impressive HM time, regardless of your age. It's even more impressive given your age.
I'm 39, but I'm listening! Quite useful across the ages
The nutrition & pacing information is so insightful. Thank you very much.
The information on pacing was especially useful for me, thanks for sharing Coach!!!

I’ve heard the strategy of mixing some intervals within a long race before. Well done 🔥

Even my HM of 1:41:20 translates to an impossible marathon time for me at 62 yo
