  • Part 2 of Strokes for gold covers highlights from the USA vs. DDR dual swimming meet in Concord California. At the height of the cold war, it was one of the most anticipated swimming meets in history and it did not disappoint the thousands of spectators who saw it. The US Team was led by Tim Shaw, John Naber and Shirley Babashoff. Among the highlights is John Naber's upset of Roland Mathes, the DDR backstroke king who hadn't lost a race in seven years. Narrated by Don Schollander. From the archives of the International Swimming Hall of Fame.
